Can Crohn's disease be manifested with constipation and flatulence (farting)? My daughter has been on Zelnorm (tegaserod) for constipation for months and it is not working and she experiences extreme bloating, abdominal pain, and constipation with some diarrhea and is miserable.

Ideally Masturbation should not be more than 2-3 times a week for any adult. It will keep you sexually active. Too much of everything is bad as always. Along with this schedule of masturbation you need proper diet which should consist of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and one hour of jogging early morning every day. This will keep you fit for future activity also. You are probably not taking enough fluids and water. Increase them. At your age, usually ED does not happen. May be you are thinking negative so that may be cause. Stay relaxed and carrier oriented, follow my instructions given above and most likely things will improve by itself. 1. Do regular aerobic exercise for 1 hour daily (brisk walking, jogging, running, swimming, cycling etc) 2. Reduce weight if overweight 3control diet a) avoid sweets, sugar/honey, milk, milk product excess calorie and carbohydrate rich diet like white bread, cereal, rice, pasta b) avoid all refined food like maida, pasta, starchy food like rice, potato, bakery item, processed food, c) include more fiber like pulse, green leafy vegetable, cucumber, carrot, tomato, j legume. D) avoid sweetened fruit like banana, mango, litchi, chickoo, sapota, seethaphal jack fruit, grape etc. Can have fruits like guava, pineapple, papaya, orange, mousambi, strawberry, watermelon, pomegranate, jack fruit, sweet potato, a handful of walnut daily (akhrot) e) avoid white/polished rice, take unpolished rice like brown rice/wheat/jowar/ragi, moong and chana dal. F) avoid ghee/ butter./coconut oil/excess salt intake like papad/pickle. G) avoid red meat. Take fish/chicken. H) avoid alcohol and carbonated drinks like soft drink 4. Adhere to a strict diabetic diet by consulting dietitian 5. Monitor your fasting, pp blood sugar 3 monthly and hba1c six monthly

Dear lybrateuser, your chest pain could be due to acidity - follow some dietary precautions: - avoid spicy, fried, sour & junk foods, also restrict tea, coffee intake to 1-2 cups per day, avoid tomato, raw onion, garlic, mint & chocolate, alcohol - do not skip meals, have meals on time, chew your food well, have 4-5 small meals rather than having three large meals, do not lye down for 1-2 hrs after a meal, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime - have 7-8 glasses of water per day - do regular exercise - take syrup gelusil, 2 teaspoonful half an hour after meals three times a day.

5 Ways You Can Boost Your Fiber Intake

The human body is designed to process foods with the help of fiber. The benefit of fibers is being recognized widely, and people are being advised to increase the fiber content in their food. On an average our body requires 25 to 30 g of fiber per day. 

The body requires two types of fibers, soluble and insoluble. The soluble ones absorb water during digestion, contribute to stool bulk, and are believed to reduce cholesterol levels. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, oats, and barley are good sources of soluble fibers.

The insoluble ones are required for good movement of food through the intestines.  These are also found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains like wheat, rice, barley, oats, etc. It takes a little planning to ensure your food is fibrous, but the benefits are a lot and long lasting.  

Follow some of the following simple steps and you will see them for yourself:

  1. Vegetables:  On a lighter note, make sure each meal of yours is as colorful as possible.  Include good amount of carrots, radish, greens, legumes, tomatoes, cabbage, and any other vegetable that you like in each meal.  This ensures that you get all the fiber and nutrients that you want in a meal.  Baked, boiled, raw choose any form, that you like.
  2. Fruits: It is advisable to eat a raw fruit as compared to having its juice. The fiber content gets reduced when you convert it to a juice.  Try not to discard the peel, unless it is not edible at all, pineapple or jackfruit for example.  Fruits, along with vegetables, form the most natural and best source of fiber.  About 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day will get you all the fiber you need for a day that is 25 to 30 g per day.  Berries, pears, prunes, figs, apples, oranges, apples, pears, mangoes, pineapples - take your pick.
  3. Whole grains:  Whether you are picking up bread, noodles, cookies, or a packet of pasta, make sure they are made of whole grains and not refined flour.  Include one cereal in your breakfast.  Oats, barley, wheat germ powder, flax seeds can all be good sources of fiber. Replace white rice with brown rice to get more fiber.
  4. Legumes: Incorporate fiber rich legumes in your daily meal, such as beans, lentils, peas or puree them for interesting dips. Adding legumes help you with the required amount of fiber intake for your body along with regular and smooth bowel movements.
  5. Water:  Though not a direct contributor to fiber, increasing the water intake makes the fiber from the above mentioned foods more effective. It promotes better food passage through the intestines and contributes to better stool.  It also reduces the bloated feeling that you get with increased fiber. 

Try to gradually make these small changes to your diet and you will see the benefits almost immediately.  Try including more fibrous foods to also prolong your hunger pangs, breakfast being the best way to start.

First of all you should take rest for 1-2 days so that your body can fight with underlying infection with its full immunity and start the below medication:- take gelesemium 200, twice daily. Take eupatrium perf 200, 5 drops thrice daily. Take antifebrinum 3x, 2 tabs, thrice daily. Take alfavena malt, 1 tsf, thrice daily. Drink lots of water and take light homemade food like dalia and khichdi, avoid oily, spicy, fried, junk and cold drinks. If fever does not goes then go for a set of blood tests.
