My wife is of 65 years age, her muscles from shoulder to arm bending joint are just hanging and she is getting severe pain from shoulder down wards up to hand finders and she feels pain in lifting an extrememly light weight household items. Please advise thanks.

It could be due to cervical spondylosis this is quite a common condition rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take caldikind plus (mankind) 1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days do neck & back (spine) exercises contact me again if need be. Use of cervical collar will give you relief. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take.

Take healthy diet( add green tea and aloe vera juice). Stop taking morning tea. Don't smoke and alcohol. Sleep for 8 hours minimum. You can start calcium and methylcobalamin supplement with Omega 3 for 3 months

This form of low back pain is amplified with periods of stress, poor posture, weak abdominals and/or excessive body weight. There are many exercises that should be performed to address the issue of back pain from standing. These exercises try to relieve both the tightness and imbalances in the lumbar spine. Please consult a physiotherapist privately to learn these exercises. Here are a few simple tips to try at home: -heat therapy can provide both pain relief and healing benefits for many types of lower back pain. Try use heat therapy in form of heating pads, heat wraps, hot baths, etc. -keep moving and keep your back mobile. -stretch. Don't sit slumped in your desk chair all day. Get up every 20 minutes or so and stretch the other way. Because most of us spend a lot of time bending forward in our jobs, it's important to stand up and stretch backward throughout the day. -think ergonomically. Design your workspace so you don't have to hunch forward to see your computer monitor or reach way out for your mouse. Use a desk chair that supports your lower back and allows you to keep your feet planted firmly on the floor. -watch your posture. Slumping makes it harder for your back to support your weight. Be especially careful of your posture when lifting heavy objects. Never bend over from the waist. Instead, bend and straighten from the knees. -watch your weight. Use diet and exercise to keep your weight within a healthy range for your height. Being overweight puts excess stress on your spine. Go and see a doctor if -your low back pain is severe, doesn't go away after a few days, or it hurts even when you're at rest or lying down. You have weakness or numbness in your legs, or you have trouble standing or walking. You lose control over your bowels or bladder. These could be signs that you have a nerve problem or another underlying medical condition that needs to be treated.

Warm mustard oil or sesame oil (1 teaspoon) with 3-4 cloves of crushed garlic and 1 tsp of ajwain (carom) seeds until it roasts to a reddish brown colour. Ensure that it does not get burned. Massage this oil on your affected areas. After that do hot fomentation with salt potli (bag).

I am 68 yrs old and diabetic for the last 22 yrs. Had a fracture, calcanium left, in 2003 ; ok now even though wound is 99% closed still has a little pain while walking or doing yoga. Now started with a pain on my right shoulder. Sugar level is 148/168 (on medicine) pls advice how to get rid f this shoulder pain and pain at the fractured joint. And also for diabetes thanks,

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You calcaneum pain could be due to degenerative changes in ankle or the subtalar joints, and also your shoulder pain could be due to degenerative changes setting in the joint and affected soft tissues. Latest x rays of ankle and affected shoulder can help us in understanding what grade of degeneration is there but if there is only localised pain with no other s/s of inflammation or infection, no swelling etc, the best way to go ahead is with - intensive physical therapy - short course of anti inflammatory medications which suits your body - adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation as per requirement we will monitor your progress in 2 weeks time how you are doing with conservative treatment and can then take your case ahead. I am 30 yr old working with a company as a Assist. Manager suffering from PID L4 from more than a month I just wanted to know how long it does take get completely heeled up. You should continue your physiotherapy if you are having pain. Few things I would like to tell you, firstly when you sleep turned to one side you should try to bring your knees close to your chest by folding your hip and knees and keep a pillow between your thighs. When you sleep straight with your face facing the ceiling, you should try to keep your legs folded by putting 2-3 pillows bellow your knees. This will keep your back relaxed in night. Even when you sit for long hours you should keep some foot rest bellow your feet so that you knees are slightly above the level of you seat. Try avoid long hours travelling.

These days youngesters having lots of low back and neck pain its just because of their posture, life style, and pure body balance. My suggession if you dont have any radiating pain in your lower limb then you can meet a good physiotherapist to tone your muscle though execises and some modalitie.

Rule out high blood pressure or any other kidney problem this could be due to lumbar spondylosis with nerve root compression. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos you will need other supportive medicines also. Do back (spine) exercises contact me again if need be. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you may have to use lumbosacral support for some time. Avoid painful act/activities. Take medicines as prescribed it may have to be further investigated.

Calf stretches standing calf stretch stand away from a wall and put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day.

1. Get your lumber spine x ray done 2. Start with Physiotherapy treatment 3. Learn spinal exercises from Physiotherapist 4. Take calcium vitamin D 3 and Methylcobalmine supplement for one month minimum 5. Don't sit on floor 6. Don't lift heavy things 7. Do hot fermentation twice a day 8. Apply volini cream before sleeping 9. Wear Lumber spine belt.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, do warm foamentation 15 minutes twice daily for few days avoid load and long walk take rest, you may take analgesic. Stretching exercises for ankle strengthening exercises for knee. Ultrasonic therapy for 5 minutes. Change footwear.
