Dear lybrate-user, To reduce cholesterol follow these: 1. Tea- green tea is known popularly as an antioxidant that keeps your health and weight in check. But it is also a very strong cleanser of your arteries as well. Black tea too, one that has flavonoids in good proportions is also considered as an excellent cleanser of the artery. 2. Sesame seeds- sesame seeds have natural cardioprotective substances that are not only good for the artery but are very beneficial for absolute heart health. Sesame is majorly known for preventing the occurrence of atherosclerosis. Apart from that, sesame helps in cleaning all blood vessels. 3. Turmeric- any blockage or damage to the artery is immediately addressed by the turmeric that we consume regularly. It cures the damages almost immediately, preventing any aggravation or infection. Including turmeric in good proportions in daily diet is considered as a complete option to tackle any problems to the arteries. 4. Fruits- fruits are extremely beneficial both for the cardiovascular and blood health. Fibrous fruits especially are related to the arteries. Researchers suggest that having fibrous fruits first up in the morning, on an empty stomach ensures that all the arteries are cleaned and its functions are proceeding in the right manner. 5. Olive oil- fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 present in olive oil are excellent plaque removers. Consuming olive oil increases the omega substances in the body, so when something is about to harm the artery, they intervene and cleanse it completely.

Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to cardiovascular disease. What you eat has a direct impact on your cholesterol level. In fact, a diet rich in fiber and other cholesterol-lowering foods may help lower cholesterol as much as statin medication for some people. Working with a registered dietitian and doctor is the key to develop and maintain a successful health program to manage it. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problems.

Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Surgery

M.B.B.S. , PG Diploma In Clinical Cardiology
Cardiologist, Delhi
Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Surgery

Mics cabg or micas stands for minimally invasive coronary artery surgery. It is a relatively new and advanced technique of performing coronary bypass for coronary artery disease. In this technique the heart is approached through the side of the left chest via a small 4cm incision. This cut is placed just under the nipple. The chest is entered between the ribs without cutting any bones and by splitting the muscle.

Similar to a regular heart surgery the operation is performed using all arteries or a combination of arteries and veins removed from the leg. The vessel from the leg in these operations is also removed endoscopically without cutting the skin over the leg. Highly advanced instrumentation and advanced techniques allow for the operation to be performed very safely.

Mics cabg has several advantages over the traditional technique:

First and foremost is the fact that no bones are cut. This has several advantages in reducing pain, retaining function and having a positive effect on breathing. Unlike traditional heart surgery return to normal life including driving or other activities is not disrupted and can be started almost immediately.
Second, blood loss is almost negligible eliminating blood transfusion in most and eliminating blood borne infection.
Third, all infections are reduced whether it be wound infections or post surgical lung infection. This makes the procedure ideal in diabetics and older patients who have poor resistance to infection.
Fourth, the incision is so cosmetic and measures just 2 – 3 inches that it's practically impossible to tell that a heart operation has been done.
Fifth, the procedure lasts only 4 days unlike the conventional heart surgery that takes 9 days.

All these benefits put together make for ultra short hospitalization and recovery. The best part is that all the blocks irrespective of their location in the heart can be bypassed in a safe and predictable manner.

Hye. Firstly understand that no remedy works in isolation. If your diet is not good, no amount of juices, vinegars will help. So, first try to improve your basic diet. Only then you can take the apple cider vinegar. Also, I must tell you, many people are not tolerant to it so start with only a teaspoon in a glass full of water. In fact lime water, alla juice also give you results and are safe too.

I am a 73 year old male. My systolic pressure is measuring on the high side - 165 mm - while my diastolic pressure is low - 65 mm - as it has always been in the past. Why is this so? if the arteries have narrowed, both the pressure readings should logically become higher.

Critical Care Training, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

What's your 2d echo finding? diastolic bp usually becomes high when diastolic dysfunction & depends on elastic recoil of aorta.

Hi I am an 55 year old man and I have done ptca to rca (ira) 0n 19/01/2015 with stenting 95% stenosed (a drug eluting stent [ xience prime] 3.0 x 38 mm. Was deployed at 14 atm. Pressure with very good result and timi-3 flow. I have another blockage of 80% in another lca now what should I eat and drink (red wine or not). And what kind of exercises I can do.

MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Bangalore
Hi went through your query. 1. Exercise: start with casual walking at a pace comfortable to you. Do not over exert yourself. After 2 weeks of casual walking slightly increase the pace and keep increasing the pace slightly every 2 weeks. Do daily exercise for at least 30 minutes. Diet: you have not mentioned whether you are hypertensive or diabetic. Assuming you are not I shall advise you the following diet. -- morning after you get up drink at least 1 litre of water (you can add lemon to it) -- try taking green tea/ lemon tea instead on tea or coffee. -- have a satisfying breakfast, let the food be cooked in olive oil or sunflower oil. --- have a light lunch/dinner, increase the intake of vegetables and fruits. Do not go to bed/sleep immediately after lunch/dineer -- avoid non veg food. -- avoid junk food, carbonated drinks, cheese, butter, ghee. -- if you are a regular alcohol consumer only then you substitute whisky/rum/brandy to red wine, but if you are not regular alcohol consumer then no need to take red wine regularly (neither whisky/rum:))
