If you don't understand concept you tend to forget things. Instead of memorising each and everything try to grasp the concept. Second thing 30 minutes is not much time for laq. This much time is normally needed for long answer. Do not worry you r perfectly fine.

Dear, sir i ws having one best friend his rules ws to be in under he alwz keeping me in his restrictions.I m too much confused should i live with him or not.His nature ws so good.Plz help me wat should i do m alws feeling uneasy without him.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Rules in a relationship must be consensual. If he is controlling you, he could be insecure about you. Anyway why would you want to live in such circumstances with your freedom curbed in such a manner? If his nature ?was? good, what has happened to it now? That was in his past. It is the present that matters. Normally every boy and girl show conscious and good behavior in the beginning just to win the other over. Once they have achieved that, they show their true colors. You are probably seeing his true nature now and if it does not look good, run far away from him. He has let you down and you were in love with his former self, which was a facade. I think that you should abandon this love and seek one from new pastures, however much you love him. You must learn fast and be true to yourself. I hope I am wrong and he is much better than your description of him. But be sensible and think rationally before you act.

I have been chewing ghutka since 2008. And now I finally quitted chewing totally since 3 weeks and now I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms including shortness of breathe sometimes suddenly. I want to know is it a serious issue? What should I do now? And how long will it last?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Nothing to worry really. Withdrawal symptoms will run their course and will gradually fade away. Drinking a lot of fluids and do good vigorous exercises and that will lessen the effects. If it gets really unbearable you can visit a doctor who will prescribe medicines to ease the symptoms.

Manic Depressive Disorder - 11 Signs to Help You Spot it

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Manic Depressive Disorder - 11 Signs to Help You Spot it

Manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder in recent days, is a major mood disorder characterized by hypomanic or manic episodes (deviation from one's usual mood along with abnormally high energy levels). Mania involves sleeplessness, along with psychosis, hallucinations, rage, grandiose delusions or paranoia. Mania or hypomania isn’t usually harmful to the patient and they might exhibit increased capacity for work and creativity. Depressive episodes however, can be debilitating and often life threatening as the person becomes self-destructive and suicidal in many instances.

The extent of mood swings can vary from extreme to very mild. They can occur progressively or suddenly and might last for few days to weeks. Patients affected by bipolar disorder may experience disturbances in thinking apart from depressive or manic episodes. Distortions of perception and impaired social functioning are also not uncommon. The cause of bipolar disorder is not fully understood like most mental health conditions and is often thought to be hereditary.

The extent of the seriousness of the bipolar symptoms varies from person to person. In some people, the disorder is not full blown and they don’t exhibit all the symptoms. Others who aren’t that lucky might have to be hospitalized multiple times in their lives as the symptoms creep into their work and personal life and make living a normal life a tough challenge.

Psychotic symptoms such as disorganized thinking, hallucinations and delusions might make a person do things that demand the urgency of hospitalization to keep them safe from their suicidal impulses. These symptoms might need to be urgently addressed by a psychiatrist and with the help of medications, the person might be able to regain control of their lives.

The symptoms of bipolar disorder are many and can be mainly categorized into two (sometimes overlapping) categories of mania or hypomania and depression:

Manic symptoms include:

  1. Grandiose delusions (delusion of grandeur)
  2. Racing thoughts which are often disconnected
  3. Sense of euphoria or false elation
  4. Irritability without cause
  5. Hampered social functioning
  6. Increased sexual inclination and risky sexual behavior
  7. Hyperactivity
  8. Increase in talking volume or speed
  9. Impaired judgment
  10. Reduced sleep requirements owing to extra energy levels
  11. Increased productivity and creativity

Depressive symptoms include:

  1. Abnormal eating patterns like over or under-eating to the extent of severe medical complications accompanied by drastic changes in weight
  2. Difficulty in concentration, making decisions and remembering
  3. Lack of energy or fatigue
  4. Contemplating about death for prolonged periods of time and suicidal behavior
  5. Oversleeping, insomnia or early awakening
  6. Persistent pessimism
  7. Irritability and restlessness
  8. Feeling of hopeless and negative attitude

Mood stabilizers, such as lithium are commonly employed to treat bipolar disorder. Anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines and anti psychotics can also be used in the treatment. Along with medications, support from family and friends is of the utmost importance as they need to help provide all the support required in making the person functional and healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist.

Dear, stress is the biggest cause for overweight and also maintains diabetes as well as depression. I understand that work and family pressures are leading to this depression and stress that you are facing. Like the instruction in airplanes before take offs-you need to put your oxygen mask on before you help others in cases of emergency. What are the job and family challenges you are having? it helps to focus one day at a time and to focus on how to feel healthy mentally and physically instead of reducing weight or levels of diabetes. That I mean is that your focus right now should be on what you can do to feel healthy and that is all. So it could be to enjoy your walks as you do them, play with your children (if you have young children) and enjoy it as you do it. The key is to find spaces and activities to do that increase your level of pleasant experiences. When you are able to effectively exercise this first step the other things will slowly fall in place.

Dear Lybrate user, Welcome to Lybrate. Opium addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

You must go and meet with a counselor too immediately, apart from the medication, for the best results. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I m not getting my complete sleep what to do in this conditions and unable to concentrate on my studies.
Sleep is very essential for all. Lack of which can lead to impaired concentration. I suggest you indulge in some heavy physical activity during the day - e. G. Walk or exercise. Don't have heavy meals at night. Avoid coffee, tea after sunset. Donot take naps during the day. Make a schedule for studying. Donot use mobiles in bed. Keep them out of reach. The light from smartphones keeps our body clock away. If all these fail, you may need to see a psychiatrist.

From childhood I suffered from ocd. No one was aware of this disease in my family although everyone specially my mom had it's trait. I was bright student till class 9. My downfall started from 21st July 2009 in 10 th standard. I still remember the date I used to top in my class till 9 th standard I think everyone knows from childhood only I used to talk less. I had very less friends. I was in 9th standard and those were the days I was going through hormonal changes. Actually I am not hesitating to write here nor I have hesitation to talk about anything it's my procrastination which is delaying it. I was in 9th when I accidentally saw porn and I was clueless about that. Like every young boy I wanted to see it again and again but I didn't knew y. I was going through physical and mental changes and there was no one to guide me. That time I thought I was unique. I wasn't aware that it was Natural. I thought I had disease. Since there was no one to talk to, I searched it about it on net. It was that time I heard a term porn addiction. I researched alot about it. For many months I researched on porn addiction. Somewhere I read it is like diabetes, it is very big sin etc etc. I assumed that I have porn addiction although now I don't think I had it at that time. I thought this disease is unique to me. I tried avoiding it but I would watch once in a week or 15 days. I felt so much frustrated after that. In 2009 10th board used to be very important. I started preparing for boards from march itself. Like every brilliant student I wanted 95%. I started studying day and night, 24 hours. I stopped watching tv. I threw all my pc games. I stopped everything. I had many ocd problems that time too like repetition, washing hand and many more which I don't remember. I controlled all these by my will. I used to study motivational book to motivate myself. I used to study books on how to study 24 hours and every second. How to utilize every second with focus in studies I had controlled almost all things. Now only studying and watching porn was left. I almost controlled my porn habits too. I used to watch in 20 days but watching porn for even 2 minutes in 20 days was very painful. I used to regret 2-3 days continuously after watching it and being normal and studying again. Since my parents were very lenient, I used to be strict with myself. I read it somewhere that to achieve success we need to be strict with ourselves. I used to abuse myself. I used to harm and hurt myself very badly. I used to bang my head and fist on the wall. I used to cry a lot. Now, I am more affected by procrastination and avoidance. One of my major negative promise to myself was that I would never Change. I would never Break the promise made by me on 21st July. I would never study. This harmed me the most My major question which I could not solve in those 3 to 4 years of my life was that 1. What was happening to me? 2. Is watching porn, masturbation normal thing or is it evil which I use to think? 3. Is it important to keep promise? This used to come when I used to try motivating myself against negative thoughts. 4. Is it right to always study and do nothing else? 5. Is sex and porn wrong and most evil? 6. Was being strict, cursing and shouting and demoralizing myself for motivation good for studies and disciplined life which was successful till 21st July? 6. I have read in many places that we can control everything except sexual desire. Why is it? Why can't we control that. 7. Is study everything? I used to believe and still I believe study is everything. I can get anything in this world through studies. It is as important as oxygen and food. I did never cared for my face and clothes and studied all day. After countering those thoughts with counselling and passing 12 th board somehow the only thing that has distributed me is my procrastination, avoidance and laziness. I have become so lazy that I think 1000 times to move from my bed. From 2013 till now I have slept almost 80% of my life. The biggest thing is that I have started complaining which I realized now and I try for sympathy so that I can motivate myself but these motivation exists for two days

I am 25 years old. I am feeling better when I'm drinking codeine cough syrup. That I am fully addictive with this. Please save me. I want to forget it. But what shall I do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
That is the attraction to drugs: it makes you feel better. If that was not so who would take it anyway? Codeine addiction is worsened by increasing tolerance levels for the drug. If you are having a serious addiction and you cannot quit its use, you will have to admit yourself to a rehabilitation center and go through their program for a complete recovery. This type of treatment is ideal because it takes you away from the influences of people and circumstances that you have gotten conditioned to and will make it easier in a different geographical location. When you come out of the center you must continue with addiction counseling for three years at least before being free of the enslavement. You will also need to attend NA meetings regularly and get a lot of support from other users who are also recovering. You will need to make some lifestyle changes and work on the stress that is normally the reason most youngsters get addicted to codeine. There is also the oral issue, the rigid value system, the genetic factors, and the script issue that has to be worked upon with the counselor. You will need to start regular vigorous exercise, sleep well, and start on a healthy diet. You must follow a tight time schedule with interesting and productive activities. The counselor will also teach you new ways of finding joy without the use of chemicals. You should socialize with people, join new groups, attend conferences, meetings, seminars etc. to be involved with other important activities in your neighborhood. You will need to go for a thorough medical checkup and determine that there was no serious damage to your body because of the abuse.
