I am 22 year old girl have completed my graduation & applied for job but dint got any secondly don't have friend and my bf is also changing a lot. I need help.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You will get a job whenever there is one suitable and available. In the meantime you must keep looking for one and you will succeed only if you try many avenues. You?re not having friends is of some concern and you need to work on that seriously. At your age you must have a whole bunch of teeming youngsters around you. May be you are an introvert. Some of us are but to leave it like that is not healthy. We are social animals, gregarious by nature and need and must want people. The final test of a personality is in the social context: what happens to you when you are with other people. To really work out this you must attend a personality development course, attend workshops, seminars, meetings, discourses, clubs, social groups etc. to meet people and to work side-by-side with them. You need to come out of your shell and mix around. This might also be the reason for your boyfriend changing: he may not feel like being with you if you are not so sociable. Please do all of these things on a war footing. If necessary get the help of a counselor too.

Hi !i am a stammer since when I was 5 years old @ 17 years I have started trying to over come it but it's not really working I had tried in many ways it really pushing me down in all aspects can any one help me?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

How to Recover from Pregnancy Blues?

How to Recover from Pregnancy Blues?

Mood swings right after the birth of a baby are quite common. Though these are the least severe variants of post-partum depression, it is crucial not to ignore the changes that are taking place in your body. Most women feel perplexed about what they can do to combat the sadness that has taken over after a joyous and happy event of welcoming a new bundle of joy into the family. About 70 to 80% of new mothers go through some kind of negative feelings and sudden bouts of depression and sadness after the birth of a child.

Symptoms of baby blues
Often, the symptoms of baby blues hit forcibly within four to five days of childbirth, though in some cases they can occur even earlier, depending on how the birthing process went. Some of the most common symptoms of post-partum anxiety include impatience and irritability, sudden urge for weeping, restlessness, fatigue and stress and a lack of concentration along with mood changes and insomnia, even when the baby is fast asleep.

How to combat the symptoms
You will be able to deal with this post-partum phase by taking a good care of yourself. You can take several measure to make yourself feel at ease, particularly when you are faced with the worst bouts of baby blues. You can speak with someone you trust regarding how you feel and what you feel like doing. It is crucial to maintain a well regulated diet, and though this is always important, having a baby increases the probability of causing mood swings.

You can also maintain a journal to note down your feelings and emotions, as it helps in venting out negative thoughts. You can go outside and enjoy some fresh air and enjoy the life that exists beyond your new routine of feeding, changing diapers and caring for the newborn. Sometimes, being exposed to a different view can make a great difference. You should not pressurise yourself for achieving perfection for the first few weeks. Slowly, things would fall in place and before you know it, you will have adjusted yourself to the new routine.

It is crucial to bear in mind that you are not alone with your thoughts and feelings as these things are faced by mothers across the world. But it is vital to note here that if your indications don’t seem to subside even after a few weeks, it can be a sign of a more serious health issue and you may need to be diagnosed by an expert.

How to quit smoking?

PhD (Psychology), MSc Psychology, MS
Psychologist,
Dear, tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like nicotine replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advise. Take care.

Res Sir, I am 30 years old. I am mentally stressed for past 5 years because of my skin tanning. I am very fair. Aft...
Dear lybrate user, I guess you were very proud of your complexion. I think you are very disappointed and sad because of skin tanning. You need to understand a few things. Firstly, lot of hormonal changes take place in the body during and after pregnancy. This might cause some changes in your complexion. Secondly, there might be a few other reasons why your skin is getting tanned, like - more exposure to the sun or may be you are not getting enough time to look after yourself or some medication and nutritional changes. Try to find out what happened exactly and then try to resolve it. But most importantly, you need to understand that fairness and beauty is not a permanent feature. Every person goes through these bodily changes while aging. Eventually one day you will lose your fairness. Fair skin is not the ultimate thing in life. There are many other things like intelligence, character, confidence, social skills, smile, behaviour etc which are very important for any individual. Beauty is a relative term and is short lived. Whereas all the abovementioned characteristics are not short lived. You, as an individual are more than your fair skin. Try to understand your strengths, focus on them. Do not try to harm yourself because you will harm your body and mind futher, I would suggest you to take an appointment with a counsellor who will help you to resolve this issue. Take care.

I am 23 male. I made plans and I am good at everything I write in plans. I don't have sense of time and I wasted last 5 years thinking why am I so careless and lazy and started feeling low about myself. I was previously patient of depression and treated for that but in a row I become patient of chronic procrastination I think. I don't bath for week though I use to live very hygienically. I am treated with valporic acid by my doctor and I feel frustrated with each and every day as I am not doing anything just distracting myself into something else. Please help me I wasted so much of time that I cant afford to be unhealthy for a second.

Hello, I can understand what is worrying you and your situation right now. First, i'd suggest that you don't need to use every second just for achieving something. Devote some time to yourself, pick out your hobbies, join some sport or music club. The purpose of life is to be content, happy and peaceful and not merely be an achiever. Secondly, what you describe sounds like bipolar depression. For this, optimize your dose of valproate, if that doesn't help much, there are medicines that can be used along with valproate for bipolar depression. Take care.

How to quit smoking?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist,
When quitting, you must take one day at a time. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.
