Dear Doctor, I had written to you earlier regarding me taking Gluconorm SR for my high Blood/Sugar level. My last two recent readings are 123/177 and 128/203.My doctor had earlier recommended me taking Glucorm after breakfast. Do you think that I should increase the frequency of taking this medicine. I also want to know, when is the best time to Take Glucorm. Should it be after or before meals.

MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Mumbai
An increase in the dose of Gluconorm is probably required provided you have been taking care of your diet and exercise. A good way to see if your DM is under control is to do the HBA1C level. Gluconorm can be taken after food.

Mr Dhirendra, If your blood sugar is well controlled then there is no need to chenge treatment. Good control means fasting close to 100 mg and PP between 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c%<7.. If this achieved then there is no reason to change.

What is risk if somebody has ration of more than 7 of HDL and LDL?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
What is risk if somebody has ration of more than 7 of HDL and LDL?
Hello dear High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

What are the everyday household remedies to reduce palpitations and its effects?

MD - Homeopathy, M.B.S.(HOMEO)
Homeopath,
The best way to cure palpitations naturally would be to have a guava empty stomach. Have this in the morning regularly. Not only would it treat palpitations but provide a soothing effect. Another remedy would be to have grape juice every day. This would relieve a person suffering from palpitations. In a glass of water, add a tablespoon of honey and half cup of lemon juice. Have this combination before going to bed. This is a good remedy to cure heart palpitations. Prepare a paste using some snake gourd leaves and water. Put the paste in the cheesecloth and squeeze the juice out of it. Intake this 1 to 2 tablespoon about thrice a day. Take some indian spikenard and add a pinch of camphor and cinnamon. Have this in two to three grams. Another way to have it would be to take it as an infusion in doses of 30 to 60 ml, thrice a day. Grind equal amounts of dry coriander, jaggery, and aniseed and make a powdery substance. Have 6 grams of this combination after every meal. Increase in the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits. This would relieve a person suffering from heart palpitations. Include some physical activities in the regular day to day living. Swimming, cycling and other outdoor sports as your means of exercise are good ways to keep the heart healthy. Avoid taking in caffeinated beverages such as soft drinks, alcohol, coffee and tea. These increase the occurrence of heart palpitations. Squeeze half of the lemon and mix about 1 tsp of honey to the lime juice. Add 250 ml of water to it. Intake this mixture every day as it would reduce the problem of palpitations.

Hi, I am 28 years old getting back and chest pain both together front and back same position. From 3 weeks suggest me what can I do.

Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho)
Orthopedist, Amravati
Hi if you have localized back pain with - no neurological symptoms like numbness, paresthesia, weakness in limbs etc, my advice is: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physiotherapist and then at home. - avoid forward bending, lifting heavy weights etc - take an analgesic like diclofenac or something which suits your body for 5-7 days - take muscle relaxant for same time as analgesic to relieve muscle spasm - ice packs at the site of pain, muscle spasm - local analgesic spray can be used but no massage is required let me know in a week time how you are feeling. I will actually ask you to get x ray of involved region of spine (ap & lateral) and send reports across to me so that I can advise further in a better manner. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

There are good homoeopathic medicines for varicose problem. I will tell some simple tips as an accessory management. 1. Reduce your weight if you are obese. 2. Avoid standing continuously for more than 20 mins. 3. Keep your legs raised while sitting. 4. Avoid taking heavy weights and loads. 5. Keep your legs above two pillows while laying in bed. 6. Use creepe bandaging. Homoeopathic medicine like pulsatilla hamamelis, calc flour, magnifiera etc can completely make the valves of veins open and make the blood flow normal. If you not taken varicose veins as a major thing at the initial stage it can lead into varicose ulcers, or any heart disease in the future.
