I haven't been able to sleep since 2 days and I am having a severe headache, tried multiple home remedies, but didn't work, what to do? Please help me!

DEAR Lybrate USER. This problem is due to irritation and inadequate nutrition of the brain. So follow few basic things …. 1) take solid diet two times in a day and liquid diet two times in a day. 2) drink only 100-150 ml of lukewarm water during meals …. 3) don’t drink water one hour before meals and one hour after meal…4) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast, fermented and stale foods…. 5) avoid late night sleeping habits …. 6) do anuloma viloma pranayam regularly early in the morning. A) eat 5 gm of ajwain seeds along with 5 gm of jaggery after meals. B) take 60 ml of trifala juice along with 20 ml of honey early in the morning and at night before sleep. Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result. Consult to me for further suggestions. THANKS.

I often feel headache on my left part of the head from more than two years and especially it arrives in night. Can you tell the reason for that?

You should not neglect such kind of chronic and severe headache specially when it is associated with vertigo (chakker) and sometimes visual disturbances may indicate some kind of growth, which you should take seriously. I am diabetics since last 3 years. HbA1c is6. 7.Both legs itch below the knee, which is not relieved much by scratching, applying diafoot cream/moisturizer after bath ,red spots also seen after bath.

Diabetes can cause increased dryness especially of arms and legs. Red spots after bath are perhaps due to dryness and inflammation around the hair follicles. Please don't take hot water baths (use luke warm water). Have short baths. Try to apply oil before bath and use a thick non-fragrant moisturiser after bath. Repeat moisturiser application 2 more times in the day. If it does not subside see a dermatologist.

I am having pre hypertension. I read in net chewing raw garlic 2 3 cloves a day reduces hypertension. One of my friend told it also causes problems in erection. Is it true? Or eating raw garlic increases erections?

Hello- Garlic is known for its lipid/cholesterol reducing property. Hypertension is due to narrowing of blood vessels by the deposition of this harmful lipids in the vessels which decreases the blood flow towards the organ and increases the pressure towards the wall of the vessels. This is the normal pathology of hypertension. Since garlic removes this lipid obstruction in blood vessels and reduces hypertension it also improves the blood supply of organs, and a healthy erection needs a healthy blood supply.

During my regular health check up. I notice I have a fatty liver but never the physician or anyone has made a note of it nor asked me to take any prescription. If fatty liver normal or what should I do.

(Fatty liver is due to excess fat accumulation in liver cells. There are three grades of fatty liver. Grade 1- It is the initial stage of fatty liver. Fat accumulates on the outer surface of liver and does not interfere with functions of liver and the person is asymptomatic. It is only accidentally detected during routine health check up and screening test Grade 2 &3 are are severe form and patient may be symptomatic like 1. malaise, fatigue,fullness/heaviness in abdomen, liver may be enlarged and tender, 2.jaundice, dark colored urine, loss of weight, nausea, vomiting,loss of appetite, 3.generalised itching, giddiness, bleeding tendency, flapping tremor, impotency etc. 4. It can lead to cirrhosis of liver Cause of fatty liver 1.Alcohol, obesity are the two major causes. 2.other causes could be diabetes, Hypertension, hypercholestorlemia, TB, Mal nutrition 3.Drugs like steroid anti epileptic,anti hypertensive anti neoplastic Precaution 1.Reduce obesity by regular exercise, 2.Control diet by avoiding oily, fatty, cholesterol rich and high calorie diet,diary rich food product,fried /processed food, soft drink, sugar, salt, meat. 3.Take foods rich in omega3 fatty acid like walnut , fish oil, , high fiber diet, vegetables and fruits 4. Drink plenty of water 5. Avoid Hepato toxic drugs 4. Total abstinence from alcohol , smoking 5. Monitor your Liver function test regularly and consult Gastro enterologist/Hepatologist for advice and treatment

Curb Your Afternoon Cravings

Sometimes, you are just doing your work with a whole lot of concentration and suddenly as soon as the clock strikes 3 p.m. you get the munchies. The sudden, strong desires for food are called cravings and they strike you when you least expect it!

The reason for this might be a neurotransmitter named as  serotonin, which regulates your emotions, mood, sleep and, obviously, your appetite. Serotonin becomes slightly inactive by midday, which makes you crave salty and sweet snacks.

Here are some ways to curb your cravings:

  1. Don't skip breakfast, or lunch. Choose foods that take a long time to digest, so you can stay full for a longer duration. Whole grain bread and vegetables are good options.
  2. Don't go grocery shopping during this hour because you will end up buying junk food.
  3. Don't watch television as junk food advertisements will lead to cravings, as the images shown to promote these products, induces the desire, which eventually will lead to obesity
  4. If you can feel your cravings still, choose to do something else, such as go for a walk or get yourself really busy with something till the urge subsides.

But if all else fails, then you have no option, but to give in and it is okay to give in sometimes. However, you should do it right and not reach for the nearest package of processed food! Instead, substitute the candy bar, or potato chips with the following options:

  1. Vegetable soup
  2. One slice of wholegrain bread with unsweetened jam/peanut butter
  3. Dried or fresh fruits
  4. Sweetened/unsweetened high fibre cereal with low fat milk
  5. Low-fat granola bars
  6. Smoothies made from fresh fruit and skim milk
  7. Low-fat yoghurt with fresh fruits
  8. Unsalted, unbuttered popcorn
  9. Hot chocolate with skimmed milk made from low-fat cocoa powder

Basically, your body craves for carbs during the afternoon. And the trick is to choose complex carbs (carbohydrates that digest slowly) over simple carbs (carbohydrates that are easier to digest). From the list above, you can see that mostly complex carbs have been mentioned. In fact, eating complex carbs will trigger your serotonin levels which will provide you energy, return your focus and make you happier! So it is okay to snack, just don't open that packet of chips and remember to eat the right things. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Sleep with all lights off. Have a glass of warm milk before going to sleep. Do not keep any electrical stuffs or mobile phones on your bed. Do meditation for 15 minutes daily. Avoid tea and coffee after evening.

Most likely it is due to Acidity like Hyperacidity, Dyspepsia etc. Hence take along time treatment from your doctor avoid spicy and fried food.

How to Treat Drug Abuse

Drug abuse is characterized by the excessive use of illegal drugs, prescription drugs or even over-the-counter drugs. Drug abuse eventually leads to drug dependency whereby the drug begins to take control over you and affects your daily activities as well as your physical health.

Treatment:
Treatment of drug abuse normally involves a series of steps to be undertaken. These are:

  1. Group therapy
  2. Counseling
  3. Drug addiction

Furthermore, treatment of drug abuse generally follows a 12-step program which continues even after the treatment as a part of the recovery process.

Detoxification:
Detoxification, or simply detox, is a procedure involving medical care while attempting to deal with withdrawal symptoms after your initial break from drug use. Since dealing with withdrawal symptoms can be quite problematic, you will certainly have to consult a doctor who will probably prescribe you certain medications.

Therapy:
There are different types of therapy needed to overcome the problem of drug abuse. These include:

  1. Group therapy, where you can interact your problems with other people who are going through the same ordeal.
  2. Motivational interviewing (mi), where you can resolve mixed feelings with regard to quitting and treatment.
  3. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), where you can learn to take control over your actions as well as change your thought and behavior pattern in order to adjust to a drug-free life.
  4. Motivational enhancement therapy (met), where motivational interviewing is used to help give you more motivation with respect to quitting drug consumption.
  5. Family counseling, or even couples therapy, where you can learn how to stay drug-free as well as improve your relationship with your family members or with your partner.

Treatment programs:

Treatment programs are often similar to therapies and are classified into three types:

  1. Inpatient treatment
  2. Outpatient treatment
  3. Residential treatment.

When I was sleep at night And then I will up on 2 hour then my eyes was not open why.

Dear, please see that ideal sleep duration is maximum six or seven hours a day. The following tips help one to get fit and avoid sleep disturbance: a) have bath regularly in evening after coming from work or before going to bed. Early to bed and early to rise (awake) is a nice process for natural sleep cycle. B) do not engage mind in active work or stressful talking at night before bed time. C) do not engage mind in too much of computer work in night before bed time (for example, do not do stock market work in night). D) do not read or view illicit or pornographic material at any time preferably. E) do not take heavy meals in night. Best is to have heavy breakfast, lighter lunch and lightest dinner to maintain stomach rhythm which affects sleep. Vegetarian diet is best for good sleep. F) do not over engage mind in television in night. H) do not smoke cigarette, chew tobacco, tobacco containing masala, or similar intoxicants which can disturb rhythm of mind and disturb sleep cycle. I) no tea or coffee in night (preferably cocoa and caffeine containing drinks should be totally avoided for best results). Better is to drink cow's milk in night before sleep time. J) listen to relaxing music and even then if you do not get sleep, then hear soothing stories or nice talks. K) read books which not only calm the mind but also nourish the thinking process. It is best not to depend on sleep medicines for sleep disturbance as in long run, they lead to dependency and increased disturbance. Never rely on alcohol for sleep. Some people use alcohol to help them sleep, but that's not a good idea. At first, drinking alcohol may make you sleepy and help you fall asleep. But when you drink alcohol, you are more likely to wake up later in.

Hello there, for cough, take 2-2 teaspoonful of pranacharya kasantak by mixing it in hot water twice daily. Sitopaladi, praval and tankan bhasm churna taken with honey can also bring relief. Consume this 3 to 4 times a day for relief from dry cough; you can also drink tea with basil leaves or add ginger and black pepper in it. Salted hot water gargling also helps. And stay away from cold drinks and don't take milk when having cough

I have vitamin-d deficiency its 20 out of 30 that cause stiffness and pain.What should i do?
