My fasting blood sugar use to be between 95 and 105, but following a hernia operation while recuperating it came down to between 72 and 75. I stopped having my night dose of half tablet of dianorm m and now it is between 85 and 90. Have I done the right thing?

If your blood sugar levels are consistently around 85 -90 mg/100 ml, then there is no need to take any medication. But I would advise you to keep checking sugar level at once every 3 months.

Hi again I wish to know if diabetics and high blood pressure are inherited disorders.
Thanks.
Diabetes is a disease of multifactorial etiology. Some kind of people are more inclined genetically to have diabetes while there are others who are genetically sound yet they have it because of weight gain. or drugs or later in life with gradual decline of body functions and accelerated decline of functions in some specific organs.

Hello, Glucagon is a counter regulatory hormone, produced when blood glucose goes down. It helps increase glucose level by breaking glycogen from liver. It is present in usual quantity in diabetes too.

I am 46yr old I have a bad teeth right side in mouth but my problem is I have sugar about 220 can I remove it.

BDS
Dentist, Raipur
Please don't get it extracted with such high sugar levels. Kindly get an x-ray done and if it can be saved then try to save it by getting root canal treatment done followed by a crown or cap instead of getting it extracted. If it can't be saved then you should consult your physician for your sugar levels. Once it is controlled then get it removed / extracted.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your blood glucose levels are fine. At your age there is no need to go for much strict glucose reduction as that can lead to hypoglycemia. You seem to be doing very well. Please continue the present lifestyle and remain fit. Your BP, lipids all look very good. There is absolutely no reason to worry. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Looking at your weight and height, it is clear that with a BMI of 33.09 kgs/M2 you are going towards grade 2 obesity. Your ideal weight should be about 66 kgs. Which means you are carrying an extra 27 kgs. This is the main cause for being in pre-diabetes stage. Reducing your weight towards normal will help in remaining free from diabetes. You will have to increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and bakery items plus food made out of maida. Plus cut down over all caloric intake based on ideal body weight (66 kgs). Then exercise regularly for over one hour a day. Refrain form alcohol and smoking. Thanks.
