Pain is mostly because of osteoarthritis at this age. Depending on the stage and severity he will need physiotherapy, exercise, knee cap, intra articular injection. If there is too much involvement of joint in x ray he may need total knee replacement as definitive treatment.

Dear Lybrate user. Sex thoughts, Sex addiction, masturbation addiction, porn films addiction etc comes under behavior addiction. Behavioral addiction is a form of addiction that involves a compulsion to engage in a rewarding non-drug-related behavior – sometimes called a natural reward – despite any negative consequences to the person's physical, mental, social or financial well-being. Behavior addiction needs to be curbed or controlled using your own self will power. Diverting your mind and body away from the circumstances which compels you for the addictive habit, with the help of physical exercises, games, entertainment etc can help you. Never sleep alone. Be always with your family even at night etc are some other tips. Willpower is the key always. Behavioral therapy also works well. Take care.

I'm 22 years old. I am very skinny. I weigh 60kg. I'm 180 cm tall. What can I do to gain weight?

Vaidya Visharad

Whole grains include brown rice, oats, cereals, wheat, etc. Which are the powerhouses of diverse nutrients. Oats, plain or brown rice are good sources of complex carbohydrates and help build your muscles. On the other hand, cereals are a high calorie food. They must be consumed as morning meal. •Brown rice can be a filling food because of its fiber, carbohydrates and protein content. If you are planning for a healthy weight gain, then combine rice with some other nutrient and calorie-dense foods. Instead of water, cook them in broth or milk. You may also add butter or cheese over the top. Starchy vegetables and dried fruits can be mixed. •Even though oatmeal is regarded as a weight-loss food, but it also aids weight-gain when combined with whole milk. One full bowl of oats can add necessary nutrition to the body, as it is rich in fiber and nutrients. You can prepare oatmeal with milk. Serve it with honey and toppings of handful of nuts, dried fruits, and other mix-ins to ramp up your weight.

DNB (Pediatrics), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

Hi lybrate-user, thank you for your qjery. Generally birth weight doubles by 6 months of age and trebles by 1 year of age. For example, if a baby born with 3 kg weight, baby will be 6 kgs at 6 months and 9 kgs by 1 year of age. Give her breast feeds and continue to give complimentary feeds 3 to 4 times in a day. Make feeds calorie rich by adding a few drops of ghee or edible oil. Hope I have answered your concerns. Regards, Dr. E venkata ramana.

What is dengue and what are the reason of fall in dengue and how we secure from this.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
The principal symptoms of dengue are: High fever and at least two of the following: Severe headache Severe eye pain (behind eyes) Joint pain Muscle and/or bone pain Rash Mild bleeding manifestation (e. G, nose or gum bleed, petechiae, or easy bruising) Watch for warning signs as temperature declines 3 to 5 days after symptoms/fever began, as this is the most dangerous period when platelet counts decline significantly. Report immediately to hospital if any of the following warning signs appear: Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting Red spots or patches on the skin Bleeding from nose or gums Vomiting blood Black, tarry stools (feces, excrement) Drowsiness or irritability Pale, cold, or clammy skin Difficulty breathing There is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection. Persons who think they have dengue should use analgesics (pain relievers) with acetaminophen (crocin or dolo -650 mg) and avoid those containing ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin or aspirin containing drugs. They should also rest, drink plenty of fluids like coconut water, lime water etc. To prevent dehydration. Preventing dengue fever: the best way to prevent the disease is to prevent bites by infected mosquitoes. To protect yourself: Avoid visiting heavily populated residential areas, if possible. Use mosquito repellents, even indoors. When outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into socks. Make sure window and door screens are secure and free of holes. If sleeping areas are not screened or air conditioned, use mosquito nets.

Today when I come from walking I check blood sugar its 112 after take 1 cup tea I checked then its 103 I have a blood sugar or not.

Certificate in Basic Course on Diabetes Management, CCEBDM Certificate in Diabetes, MBBS
General Physician, Pune
If so far you do not have diabetes already and not under treatment fasting 112 mg% after 10 hrs of overnight fasting it is a borderline impaired fasting glucose. You should do blood sugar 2 hours after consuming 75 gms of glucose more than 126 mg% upto 140 mg% it is impaired glucose tolerance. You can repeat these tests and above mentioned levels of 126 and 140 are prediabetic states hence diabetes can be prevented or postponed by measures like life style changes of reduction of weight, controlled sugar free diet and daily exercise.

My age is 25 years and I am just 40 kgs and I hardly gain weight, I am eating good meals every time full of protein and fats. I had blood tests for thyroid and sugar but both were normal. What should I do, my friends tease me because I am too skinny.

Homeopath, Chennai
Underweight is a term describing a person whose body weight is considered too low to be healthy. The definition usually refers to people with a body mass index (bmi) of under 18.5 a weight 15% to 20% below that normal for their age and height group. Low weight may be due to improper diet, reduced assimilation from intestine, illness, metabolism, genetics etc. Thus first we have to rule out any such condition, with this have a healthy diet with more proteins (legumes, eggs, fish, lean meat, vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water and go for regular exercise. A homoeopathic constitutional treatment will definitely help you a lot.

Vitiligo: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Secunderabad
Vitiligo: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Vitiligo is a skin disorder where white patches of depigmentation develop on the skin and keep enlarging. This disorder is long term and continuous in nature. The patches appear due to the death of melanocytes within the skin. Melanocytes are skin pigment producing cells, which produce melanin. Vitiligo can affect the skin of several areas, including the eyes, hair and the portion inside the mouth.

The causes of this disease are as follows:

  1. Autoimmune disorders in which the immune system of a patient becomes over reactive and the melanocytes are destroyed.
  2. This disease may also occur due to genetic oxidative stress imbalance.
  3. Stressful events may also lead to vitiligo.
  4. Harm or damage to the skin from sunburns or cuts also leads to vitiligo.
  5. Exposure of the skin to several harmful chemicals may be a cause.
  6. Neural disorders are also responsible for vitiligo.
  7. Vitiligo may also happen from viral causes or may be hereditary and passed on from family members.

Vitiligo has only one major symptom. White, flat spots and patches develop on the surface of the skin. The earliest of these white patches appear on the parts of the body which are exposed to the sun continuously.
It starts off as a simple spot in the beginning and gradually, the spot starts getting pale and finally turns white. The patches have irregular shapes, and in some cases the edges get inflamed and are red in color. Itchiness is experienced in the affected areas. Symmetrical patches signify slow development of vitiligo.

The two major types of vitiligo are:

  1. Non segmental vitiligo, which affects the back of the hand, the arms, knees, elbows, feet, mouth.
  2. Segmental vitiligo, which is more stable than non segmental vitiligo, but spreads faster. It usually affects areas of the skin, which are attached to nerves.

The different methods of treatment for vitiligo are:

  1. Phototherapy with UVB and UVA light: Exposing the affected area of the skin to UVB lamps is a popular cure for vitiligo. This treatment can be performed easily at home. UVA treatment incorporates taking of a drug which makes the skin more sensitive to ultraviolet light and then the skin is exposed to high doses of UVA light.
  2. Skin Camouflage: Cosmetic creams and makeup can be used to camouflage affected areas of the skin. These topical creams are waterproof.
  3. Depigmentation: Depigmentation is used to treat widespread areas affected by vitiligo. The skin color of the unaffected areas is reduced in order to match the affected areas. It is done using topical ointments.

Vitiligo is a skin disease, the major causes of which are still to be discovered. Proper care and treatment should be taken for skin areas affected by vitiligo.
