I am a male of 54 years of age . Please just advise me the best treatment of IBS I am suffering from decades .it causes weakness and embarrassment too. I go to toilet 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 times . Even colonoscopy and endoscopy is ok. Then what is the problem. May it be due to mental worries.

How much time should I sleep daily. I sleep only for 5 hour so it will affect my health or not?

avoid day time sleep. avoid tea , coffee in late evening and after, take rest and balanced diet. 8 hours sleep is ok. 10 pm to 6 am is perfect timing.inform if not ok.

I am 42 years old Woman. My problem is from few weeks I have pain in the elbow. I feel as if inside the bone is paining. If I hold anything straight the pain is there in the bone of the elbow joint. This pain is only in my right hand. If I make a tight fist also I can feel the pain. Can you pls guide to what I have to do?

Mostly pain in elbow is due to strained or inflamed soft tissues like tendon. As per the symptoms (pain while making fist) seems you are suffering from tennis elbow. After looking to your pain I would recommed you for some care that you can take at home. If possible visit some physio who can give you several mdalities like us, ift etc to cure the pain. Along with it we have a special program designed in case tennis elbow) like hold relax, mulligans etc just to get relief from pain. Precautions: 1. Avoid weight lifting. 2. Avoid doing twisting moments like supination-pronation which usally is done while playing badmitton or while washing clothes. 3. Give rest to your work for some days. 4. Wear forearm band to rest your muscles. 5. Avoid bending your elbow into positions that cause the symptoms. Treatment: 1. Give rest to your elbow. If severe pain you can use sling to avoid gravity pressure. 2. Ice and hot pack combo. Apply ice for 3 min and then hot for 2 min. There is very good result of both applications together. After 3 days of taking contrast therapy you can make the ice and hot ratio as 1: 1 mean one min cold and then one min hot. Start with hot pack and ends with cold. Take it for 15-18 min thrice a day for early recovery. Please make sure it should not be too hot or too cold. 3. Massage using your 2 fingers over the painful area. 4. Exercises: start the exercise once your pain is decreased atleast 50-60% a) palm lifting b) elbow up and down in gravity eliminated position c) strengthening of elbow muscles. I am suffering from back pain when I was sitting on chair. I continuously sit on a chair and working on computer. So what precautions should i take? Please advise.

1) do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min. Afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) start natural calcium supplement. 3) do regular stretching exercise 4) in yoga do bhujangasan, halasan & suryanamaskar. Life-style correction 1) correct your sitting posture. 2) take small pillow or back rest for lower back. 3) foot should rest to floor easily. 4) take small break after 1 hr & walk few steps. 5) do neck & upper back extension, give feedback after 4 days.

Age 39 years nine months marriage, not able to conceive. From last six months visited several gynae, my all reports are normal. There is little pcod detected. doctor suggested metformin and ovagrace sachets to take daily for three months. Kindly guide me will this medication will help me to conceive? Fertility declines with age even if all your tests are normal. I would advice you to do as the doctor advised and keep trying for the next few months. If unsuccessful you should go for IUI or IVF depending on your reports.

I am 23 years old female, I have a black longitudinal line on my big toe. It might have come before 3 or 4 years. I don't remember. I didn't even give much importance to it. But nowadays Isee here and there in net that it's something we shouldn't ignore, it might cause cancer and all. It's quite scary to see all that. So I have the se question? What is it? Black longidutinal lines could be Melanonychia which is generally caused by pigmentation. It is more common in dark skinned people and is totally harmless. Please do not link it with cancer as cancer has a lot of other symptoms and not just dark skinned lines on nails. Do not worry as it generally does not require treatment.

Dear Lybrate User, To gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favor. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must.

I am a 30y male working as mechanic, my teeths are yellow in color. Went to a dentist he tested said all ok, suggested to changed toothpaste and tooth cleaning regularly in hospital. My question is do I need cleen in hospital regularly? this will weak my teeth strength? if regularly means what is period I need to visit like every month or six months? how much charge per visit for cleaning in typical hospital. Thanks.

For scaling and bleaching you should go twice in a year.Bleaching will hepl you in this regard.Take care of your oral hygiene. Brush regularly two times daily with soft bristle toothbrush. Rinse your mouth after each meal. Avoid alcohol tobacco products and smoking if you take these.
