My father, 81 yrs, has COPD. He had taken pneumovax inj 5 years back and is again due this year. Should he take (a) pneumovax Inj only, OR, (b) should he first take Prevnar 13 followed by (after 6 months) pneumovax inj. Any risk associated with method (b)?

My 6 year old daughter has mild asthma which is in check. Her last dose of inhaler was 1.5 years back. But she still grinds her teeth every night in her sleep. Is that ok? Could there be any other problem?

MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Mumbai
Grinding of teeth is not exactly a symptom of asthma but you may check her lung function test and look for the presence of any reversibility or increase in lung function after a inhaler dose is given. It will help assess the potential for improvement with inhalers.

I always suffer throat problem due to tonsils from small age, whenever I consume cold water or sweet food I suffer from this I get fever and tonsils get bigger and red. Please recommend some kind of home remedies handle it without having any type of operation.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Mumbai
Always keep an audit of the foods which cause your tonsils to enlarge. After eating anything sweet always gargle your throat and spit. You don't need to use fancy mouth washes, just plain water does the trick. Never go to bed without brushing your teeth. You are some who is very prone to allergies so avoid but do not give up completely on things you like. And in case of fever with enlarged tonsils always consult your doctor and don't go about treating yourself.
