4 Exercises That'll Help You During Labour

4 Exercises that’ll help you during labour

There are technical ways in which you can get your body all set for labour. Although you may not know how your labour will progress, you can ease the pain that you experience during childbirth to a significant extent by doing these four exercises:

1. Kegel Exercises: These exercises target the muscles that provide support to your bladder, uterus, urethra and rectum. By strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor, these exercises help in improving the flow of blood to your vaginal and rectal area. Kegel exercises involve contracting of  the muscles of your pelvic floor as you would do if you had to prevent passing urine or stool. It is also known to reduce the duration of the pushing stage of childbirth, which is the second stage. You can do the exercises sitting or standing and in either of the two ways-

Slow kegels: For this, contract the muscles of your pelvic floor and hold them for 3-10 seconds. Release and repeat the exercise for ten times.

Fast kegels: To do this, you need to contract and loosen up your pelvic muscles 25-50 times. Do the set for about 4 times with 5 seconds interval between each set.

 

2. Squatting: Practising squatting during your pregnancy can help in preparing your pelvic muscles for labour. While strengthening your thighs, it opens up your pelvis for an easy descent of the baby. So, here’s what you should do:

1. Begin by standing behind a chair for support with your feet wide apart

2. While contracting your abdominal muscles, relax your shoulders and chest before lowering your tailbone towards the floor

3. While inhaling and exhaling deeply, push into your legs and go back into a standing position

 

3. Pelvic Tilt: This exercise helps in strengthening the muscles of your back, pelvis and thigh regions while improving posture. Ensuring your pelvic joints remain flexible, it eases the pain experienced during delivery. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Get down on both your hands and knees while keeping your head in a parallel position with your back

2. While arching your back, pull in your stomach

3. Hold this position for a few seconds before releasing

The exercise needs to be repeated 3-5 times - all the while maintaining a strong hold over your back and stomach.

 

4. Tailor Pose: The tailor pose is designed to help relax your hip joints as well as open up the pelvis. It also helps in improving your body posture while easing the aches that occur in the lower part of your back. For this, you need to perform the following steps:

1. While keeping your back straight, sit comfortably on the floor

2. Placing the soles of both the feet together, press your knees gently towards the floor

3. Keep the position for 10-15 seconds. You can repeat the exercise for 5-10 times.

2. It account for more than 50 percent of the lead that is ingested by children

3. Municipal water supplies are controlled and regulated to prevent contamination at the source

4. However, once the water reaches the home, it is rarely regulated, tested, or treated.

5. EPA action level for lead in water is 15 parts per billion (ppb).

6. Most lead-contamination of household water is caused by copper plumbing that is joined with lead solder

7. Lead pipes may contribute to lead-contamination, but lead plumbing usually is old enough to have its inner surface coated with mineral deposits, which prevent leaching of lead into the water supply.

8. Other potential sources for lead contamination include storage cisterns, sources of water that are outside the municipal water districts, and aging water coolers and water heaters, particularly in areas where the water has a relatively low pH

9. Acidity and elevated temperature increase the ability of the water to leach lead from the solder or pipes, as does standing in the pipes for extended periods of time (eg, overnight).

10. The ability of home water filters or purifiers to remove lead depends upon the type of filter. Ion-exchange, reverse-osmosis filters, and distillation are effective in removing lead, but the most commonly available home filters (glass fiber and carbon) usually include packaging material that specifies that they do not efficiently remove heavy metals.Water to be used for cooking or drinking should come from the cold tap because hot water is more able to leach lead from the pipes. In addition, the water should be run for some time before it is collected; this flushes the water that has a higher lead content (caused by standing in the pipes) down the drain

6 Things to Do for Strong Bones

Bones are quite literally the support system of the body, so it's super important to keep them strong and healthy. Strength is not a goal you achieve in a day, week or month. It is a way more rigorous process that has to go on for years. The growing age of your life matters the most; it is at this point that you can make your bones strong. Bone strength should also be maintained in certain ways. Child or adult, you must aim for both mental and physical strength.

Here are some tips to make deposits in your bone bank for a healthier future:

  1. Know your family history: As with many medical conditions, family history is a key indicator of bone health. Those with a parent or sibling who has or had osteoporosis are more likely to develop it. So, how's your bone density, grandma? might seem like an awkward question at thanksgiving dinner, but ask anyway before she passes the gravy.
  2. Boost calcium consumption: When most people think bones, they think calcium. This mineral is essential for the proper development of teeth and bones. But calcium isn't the end-all, be-all bone loss cure. The key might be to help the body absorb calcium by pairing calcium-rich foods with those high in vitamin d. Foods that are good sources of calcium include yogurt, cheese, milk, spinach and collard greens.
  3. Don't forget the vitamin d: where there's calcium, there must be vitamin d: the two works together to help the body absorb bone-boosting calcium. Boost vitamin d consumption by munching on shrimp, fortified foods like cereal and orange juice, sardines, eggs (in the yolks) and tuna, or opt for a vitamin d supplement. The body also produces vitamin d when exposed to the sun - 10 to 15 minutes of exposure three times per week will do. Vitamin d's importance to bone health has been proven in studies on seasonal bone loss - elderly people can lose more bone mass during the winter because of lack of sun exposure.
  4. Make exercise a priority: Seriously regular exercise is to keep a number of health issues at bay, and bone health is no exception. In fact, living a sedentary lifestyle is considered a risk factor for osteoporosis. What type of exercise is most effective? weight-bearing exercises like running, walking, jumping rope, skiing and stair climbing keep bones strongest.
  5. Consume less caffeine: Caffeine does have some health benefits, but unfortunately not for our bones. Too much of it can interfere with the body's ability to absorb calcium. Drinking more than two cups of coffee per day accelerated bone loss in subjects who also didn't consume enough calcium. Also more than 18 ounces of coffee per day can accelerate bone loss by negatively interacting with vitamin d. So enjoy the java, but keep it in moderation and consume enough calcium, too.
  6. Quit smoking: Here's yet another reason to lose the cigarettes: multiple studies have shown that smoking can prevent the body from efficiently absorbing calcium, decreasing bone mass.

I had had my last periods on 24th oct. I got married on 21st Nov 16, and still on current date I haven't had periods. I have done pregnancy check also few days back, bt it came negative. Please tell me the possible reasons, is there any possibility that m pregnant?

if you are having irregular periods and weight gain, then get thyroid profile and ultrasound lower abdomen done to rule out pcos. this can delay the periods and causes hormone imbalance resulting in weight gain

Here's a sample vegetarian meal plan if you have gestational diabetes. However, a customised diet plan works best. This is because it is based on your weight, height, activity levels, stage of pregnancy and your glucose levels. You can try different variations of this sample meal plan to keep your taste buds happy. Early Morning (between 6 AM – 7 AM) A glass of milk (250 ml approx.) without sugar with 20gm roasted gram Breakfast (between 8 AM – 9 AM) A cup of milk (approx. 150 ml) without sugar and two whole wheat bread slices with 50gm cottage cheese (paneer) or one boiled egg / two vegetable stuffed chapattis with a bowl of curd / two small dosas or four idlis with sambhar. Use only 1 tsp of oil for cooking. Mid Morning (11 AM) One medium-sized fruit (150 gm approx.) such as guava, pear, plum, apple, sweet lime (musambi), peach or jamun. Lunch (between 1 PM to 1:30 PM) Start with one quarter plate of salad (cucumber, tomato, carrot, radish), one or two bowls of seasonal vegetable, one bowl of dal, about 150 ml (1 cup) curd, three chapattis / two chapattis and 3 tablespoons of rice. Use about 2 tsp of oil when cooking the lunch. Evening (4 PM) A cup of milk without sugar or lassi Evening Snack (6 PM) A bowl of sprouts with vegetable juice or soup. Dinner (8 PM – 8:30 PM) Similar to lunch. But you can try different dishes to add variety to your meals. For example, you can take cottage cheese with peas (matar paneer), mixed vegetable, soya nuggets curry, whole moong dal, masoor daal, or black chick pea gravy, green beans and carrots and so on. Use about 2 tsp of oil for cooking dinner. Bed Time 1 glass milk (250 ml approx.)/ 1 cup milk (150 ml approx.) with one small sized fruit (150 gm approx.)

Hello, HAMdard didn't help you cnceive or get ectopic firstly. yOu can get pregnant again with the second tube intact, but avoid connection for at least 6 months.

Ayurveda and Autoimmune Disorders

When the immune system of the body reacts against the tissues of its own body, it is called an autoimmune disorder. To put it more dramatically, the body becomes its own enemy. The immune system of your body keeps fighting disease causing germs and bacteria, but in rare cases, the immune system might malfunction and fight its own body causing different disorders. These disorders may be caused due to genetic issues or due to mutations. According to ayurveda, autoimmune disorders are a result of constant unhealthy lifestyle and diet. Ayurveda works at the root cause of the disease where it starts treating the malfunctioning immune system.

Here is how ayurveda treats autoimmune disorders:

  1. Toxin removal: Ayurveda starts working on removing the toxins from the body. According to ayurveda, toxins or ama in the body interfere with the proper functioning of the immune system, which often leads to autoimmune diseases. Usually shunthi, haritaki, pippali, maricha, hingu and saindhav lavan are used to detoxify the body.
  2. Metabolism correction: Not only will ayurveda detoxify the body, but it will also correct the metabolism which gets messed up when afflicted with an autoimmune disorder. Neem, guggulu, guduchi, vasa, patola patra and ghrita are used to correct the metabolism.
  3. Increase in ojus production: Ojus is the component which helps in the nourishment of the immune system. It is generally received from the food you eat. Due to dysfunctional immune system causing the impairment of metabolism, production of ojas decreases to almost nil. Hence ayurveda increases its production. Guduchi, haridra, manjishtha, amalaki, nirgundi, yashtimadhu and pippali are used to increase ojha production.
  4. Immune system correction: Lastly, ayurveda works at correcting the immune system. If the immune system is not corrected, then the above treatment procedure will just be useless. Ghrita, haritaki, bahera, amalaki, ela and dadim are used generally to calm the immune system and rejuvenate it. They help correct the immune system for normal functioning.

Autoimmune disorders may not be easily treated, but that doesn't mean you cannot expect it to cure or witness a miracle. You just need some faith and confidence alongside proper treatment and you are ready to roll.

But my periods are still not normal and as now m staying in hostel in another place I don't know what to do. And I think im still gaining some kilos even if I ate nothing at all whenever I skip my periods I got pimples on my face. Please can you suggest me something?

Pcod and increased weight are correlated. Forms vicious cycle. So reduce weight at any cost. That will only break this cycle.

Hi lybrate-user. Welcome to lybrate. If you do not wish to continue this pregnancy you can opt for medical termination of pregnancy. However you can do it with medicines only upto 9 weeks. So if you are less than 9 weeks then I suggest you take medicines otherwise you can go for a surgical evacuation. But I would suggest you to take the medicines under medical supervision as incorrect technique and dosage can lead to incomplete abortion and very heavy bleeding. Hope this information helps you. She has block her pipe near by vagina. She can not be pregnant. Her marriage has been done before 4year. Doctor says to do operation and open it. But before 6 month she get pregnant for one month and she get miss garage. I want to know that pipes can open without operation? Pls help me.

She can not get pregnant if her pipe or tubes are closed. If hsg test was done to find out if tubes were closed or not, it is not confirm test. She should undergo laparoscopy done to find out. But if she had become pregnant and you r sure about it, then she does not need any investigation to test tubes or pipe. She will get pregnant again.

To predict chances you should your date ot last period and the date when you had sex. Tightness is due to your anxiety. The morning after pill can be taken to avoid pregnancy if it is in possible date.
