It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all. Some risk factors for men developing depression or anxiety include: •Physical health problems •Relationship problems •Employment problems •Social isolation •Significant change in living arrangements (e.g. Separation or divorce) •Pregnancy and birth of a baby •Drug and alcohol use. Symptoms of depression in women include: •Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood. •Loss of interest or pleasure in activities, including sex. •Restlessness, irritability, or excessive crying. •Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness, hopelessness, pessimism. •Sleeping too much or too little, early-morning awakening. Depression in women differs from depression in men in several ways: •Depression in women may occur earlier, last longer, be more likely to reoccur, be more likely to be associated with stressful life events, and be more sensitive to seasonal changes •Women are more likely to experience guilty feelings and attempt suicide, although they actually commit suicide less often than men •Depression in women is more likely to be associated with anxiety disorders, especially panic and phobic symptoms, and eating disorders •Depressed women are less likely to abuse alcohol and other drugs •Symptoms of depression in MEN include: •Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood. •Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism. •Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness. •Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex. •Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down" Depression is a serious but treatable medical condition that can strike anyone regardless of age, ethnic background, socioeconomic status, or gender. However, depression may go unrecognized by those who have it, their families and friends, and even their physicians. Men, in particular, may be unlikely to admit to depressive symptoms and seek help. But depression in men is not uncommon: Symptoms of depression include: •Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood •Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism •Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness •Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex •Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down" •Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions •Trouble sleeping, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping •Appetite and/or weight change •Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts •Restlessness, irritability •Persistent physical symptoms, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain, which do not respond to routine treatment Depression facts •A depressive disorder is a mood disorder that is characterized by a sad, blue mood that goes above and beyond normal sadness or grief. •A depressive disorder is a syndrome, meaning a group of symptoms. •Depressive disorders are feature not only negative thoughts, moods, and behaviors but also specific changes in bodily functions (like, eating, sleeping, energy and sexual activity). •One in 10 people will have a depression in their lifetime. •Because depression can lead to self-harm including suicide, it is important to note that one of every 25 suicide attempts results in death. •Some types of depression, especially bipolar depression, run in families. •While there are many social, psychological, and environmental risk factors for developing depression, some are particularly prevalent in one gender or the other, or in particular age or ethnic groups. •There can be some differences in symptoms of depression depending on age, gender, and ethnicity. •Depression is only diagnosed clinically in that there is no laboratory test or X-ray for depression. It is therefore crucial to see a health professional as soon as you notice symptoms of depression in yourself, your friends, or family. •The first step in getting appropriate treatment is a complete physical and psychological evaluation to determine whether the person, in fact, has a depressive disorder. •Depression is not a weakness but a serious illness with biological, psychological, and social aspects to its cause, symptoms, and treatment. A person cannot will it away. Untreated or undertreated, it can worsen or return. •There are many safe and effective medications, particularly the SSRIs, that can be of great help in the treatment of depression. Treatment- A variety of treatments, including medications and short-term psychotherapies (i.e. "talking" therapies), have proven effective for depressive disorders: more than 80 percent of people with a depressive illness improve with appropriate treatment. Not only can treatment lessen the severity of depression, but it may also reduce the duration of the episode and may help prevent additional bouts of depression. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5.Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications please ask me directly and not in open questions.

This is side stitch. Stretching may relieve the pain of a stitch. Reduce pace until pain lessens. Some pain alleviation can be achieved by grabbing an object such as a small rock and clutching it firmly in your hand whilst running. The alleviation is believed to stem from the fact that this gives your body something else to focus on, rather than the pain in your side, and although the effectiveness of this method is individual, it can for a lot of people make quite a significant difference. Massage or press on the area with pain. Bend forward to stretch the diaphragm and ease the pain. Raise both hands above the head and inhale fully, expanding the abdominal and thoracic cavities, then exhale fully, tightening core muscles to do so until pain subsides.

A pimple, zit or spot is a kind of comedo and one of the many results of excess oil getting trapped in the pores. Some of the varieties are pustules or papules.Pimples can be treated by various acne medications prescribed by a physician, or purchased at a pharmacy with a wide variety of treatments
CAUSES:
Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as they do continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become 'glued' together by the sebum. This causes the blockage in the pore, especially when the skin becomes thicker at puberty. The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum harbours various bacteria including the species Propionibacterium acnes, causing infection and inflammation

TREATMENT :
Common over-the-counter medications for pimples are benzoyl peroxide and/or salicylic acid and antibacterial agents such as triclosan. Both medications can be found in many creams and gels used to treat acne (acne vulgaris) through topical application. Both medications help skin slough off more easily, which helps to remove bacteria faster. Before applying them the patient needs to wash his or her face with warm water and dry. A cleanser may also be used for that purpose. Acne rosacea is not caused by bacterial infection. It is commonly treated with tretinoin. A regimen of keeping the affected skin area clean plus the regular application of these topical medications is usually enough to keep acne under control, if not at bay altogether. The most common product is a topical treatment of benzoyl peroxide, which has minimal risk apart from minor skin irritation that may present similar as a mild allergy.[3] Recently nicotinamide, applied topically, has been shown to be more effective in treatment of pimples than antibiotics such as clindamycin. Nicotinamide (vitamin B3) is not an antibiotic and has no side-effects typically associated with antibiotics. It has the added advantage of reducing skin hyperpigmentation which results in pimple scars.

HYGIENE:

Practicing good hygiene, including regularly washing skin areas with neutral cleansers, can reduce the amount of dead skin cells and other external contaminants on the skin that can contribute to the development of pimples. However, it is not always possible to completely prevent pimples, even with good hygiene practices

I am type 1 diabetic for 15 years, on novo mixtard 30/70 twice a day until last month. For last two years, my hba1c is disturbed. Recently after making a regular note of the my blood glucose levels throughout the day, for two months now, my doctor switched me to novomix 30/70. Even after that, the blood glucose levels, specially after lunch, arnd 7 pm, were elevated. Please note that I took insulin at breakfast and dinner time. Then I started taking it three times a day, before each meal. Now the blood glucose levels are better after lunch, but very sporadic in the morning over the last one week. I am also having problems in controlling hypoglycemic episodes. I have had many instances, when, fot example, if my fasting blood glucose level came out to be 60, and I took 5-10 gms of glucose, it shot upto 250. I am shocked because the ada advises 15 gms of glucose in an hypoglyic event. I have observed this in general, that whatever I eat (i eat mainly low glcyemic foods), my body's glucose senstivity is so high, that my blood glucose levels shoot up enormously. I am also suffering from hypothroidism for three years now. Recently, my urine microalbuminuria levels came out to be 180 microgram/mg of creatinine (two readings, spaced out over a month). In addition to insulin, I am also taking thyronorm 75 mg soon after I wake up, glycomet 500mg before each meal, voglibose 0.2 mg after breakfst and lunch, nervz-b after brkfst, telmisartan 20 mg after breakfast and storvas 10 mg at night. Please suggest what can I do to have a tighter blood glucise control, advise if I need to make dietary changes, chanes in insulin type or any other medications.

The problem may lie in any of the three i) the dose and type of insulin is not properly tuned or working and it is not cared by your consultant. Ii) your diet is not properly planned and some how not matching your need or iii) your lab is giving wrong reports. For first two you can discuss your diabetologist he is suppose to give you a logical answer acceptable to a knowledgeable person like you. You are quite an educated person and aware of your disease. Your awareness about diabetes is quite commendable, I felt. So I believe none can give you any bullshit. If you feel it is not satisfactory you have right to change your consultant. Look sir, 5-10 g of glucose can never shoot you blood glucose from 60 to 250 mg%. They are giving wrong report. Your microalbumin / creatinine ratio is alarmingly high. It is indicating towards diabetic nephropathy. There must be some lack somewhere - either in medicine side or from your side that you have not compiled properly with advises. I am afraid you need a second opinion from a reputed institution's diabetic care unit.
