I am 57 year old and under went bypass surgery ten years back. I am fit and fine but I am suffering from gas trouble. After meal or before meal I feel heavy in my stomach and and feel suffocation. Though I can breath easily but feel uneasy. Please advice.

Diploma in homeopathy, B. Sc
Homeopath, Gurgaon
Are you walking or exercising? are your bowels clear? if your stomach feels heavy before meals, why then are you eating? you are overloading your system - don' t eat if you are already feeling heavy. In any case start having several small meals, and miss out if you are not hungry. There is no reason to stuff yourself just because it is habit or convention. Remember at 57 your system has slowed down and you have to alter your eating habit to match this. Contact for homeopathic support.

I'm am 20 years old and I want to know about. How can I clean my chest which has been damaged due to smoke.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybtate user, - The best way to improve the damage caused by smoking is to completely stop it as it will help reverse the harmful changes which have taken place in the body over a period of time - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables, whole grains protein foods like egg, milk & milk products, healthy fats as in seafood, avocado, mixed nuts - do regular exercise, walking, jogging in fresh air for 20-30 min, also do yoga & deep breathing for 10-20 min daily morning - have 8-10 glasses of water for proper hydration & removal of toxins from the body - get a chest x-ray, blood CBC, cholesterol, sugar, ECG done to rule out any problem caused due to the effects of smoking.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I am an orthopaedic surgeon, so it will be best for a good physical therapist to answer your question but you will have to visit personally to actually learn them initially, but main focus is on quadriceps and hamstring exercises, general rule is to avoid high impact exercises because they may worsen your symptoms and concentrate on daily brisk walks for 2-3 km in a day. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

It's thought that around 30% of people in England have high blood pressure, and many don't even know it. Though more than half of them are over 60, a large number are younger. Could you be one of them?

PG Diploma In Clinical Cosmetology (PGDCC), MBBS
Cardiologist, Mumbai
Hello, I appreciate your concern. There are many factors which play role. Few of them are lifestyle, family histroy, smoking, stress, type a peronality. Other secondary causes like kidney diseases, cushing's disease, drugs (medicines). If any of these are present, then yes you could be one of them. So, do check bp regularly. To consult a physician for further management if found to have. Even if you are not one of them, should start working on maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. People used to get hypertension after 60's because they worked hard and ate a healthy diet.

Dear lybrate-user, I can feel your concern for your father's health. Firstly understand that every medicine you take will have some side effects but we as doctors choose the best in each category. Also, by taking medications for diabetes control we can reduce the rate of complications and hence taking medicines is better option than leaving diabetes untreated or treating it with unconventional means!
