Hello, you didn't mention if baldness is running in your family. Hairloss is always due to multiple factors like baldness, nutritional status, exposure to different hair products and any current or previous illnesses. You can use a combination of hair lotions and shampoos and tablets if required. Consult a dermatologist. And get your hair density checked and follow their regime.

If it's severe you will be needing oral retinoid tablet. If it's mild to moderate topical antibiotic and retinoid creams wil be beneficial. Use salicylic acid containing face wash thrice daily.

I am 21, female, Ht-5.3" and Wt-58 kgs. My chest size is approximately 34 C and my breasts are very saggy for anyone my age due to frequent use of sports bra. How do I tighten the muscles/reduce fat there? Do I need to do anything specific-like some exercise or precaution while eating etc? Is it too late? Please help!

MCh - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Mohali
Hi lybrate-user Sports bras are very helpful in ladies with large cup size. They don't cause breast sagging. Muscle tightening with exercise also can't help the sagging breasts. Fat reduction will cause decrease in size but breast repositioning surgery is the best option, reserved for last. Please avoid sleeping on your tummy as it can affect breast shape and cause sagging. And kindly consult a Plastic surgeon for surgical advise.

Yes it can be due to climate changes please take fluoric acid 30 - twice daily for next 2 weeks. Apply jaborandi hair oil. Also use arnica shampoo. Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. Eat healthy and balanced food like pulses, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and nuts etc. Add more vitamin rich food to your diet. Avoid stress and anger by meditation. Cut down the use of hair spray, hair gel. Take sound/good sleep. Avoid too much exposure of your hair to sunlight/ hair styling tools, as they damage hair and cause split ends. Continue treatment.

How To Manage The Problem Of Acute Acne?

MD - Dermatology, MBBS
Dermatologist, Lucknow
How To Manage The Problem Of Acute Acne?

Acne is one of the most common disorders of the skin, and because of its recurring nature, it can be bothersome. Acne can be moderate to severe and can produce painful vesicles and breakouts that can be unmanageable.

What is Acne?
It primarily transpires during adolescence when the sebaceous glands get stimulated, but it can happen at any age. The glands produce oil and are spurred by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands in both men and women leading to chronic, incendiary skin condition that appears as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, nodules, and cysts.

Acne is not critical but can leave some serious scars on your skin. The glands secrete an oily fluid called sebum. Sebum transfers lifeless skin cells by the follicles to the exterior of the skin. A minute hair grows within the follicle on the surface of the skin. Pimples occur when these follicles get molded, and oil builds up beneath the skin.

Over-The-Counter Treatment Management
Lotions and creams are best for sensitive skin. Alcohol-based gels dehydrate the skin and are better for oily skin. Resorcinol helps crack out the whiteheads and blackheads. Salicylic acid contributes to the breakdown the blackheads and whiteheads and thus decrease swelling and inflammation. Azelaic acid stimulates cells that line the follicles, reduces bacterial growth and stops sebum eruptions.

Management For More Severe Acne
Your physician may put you on medication for more than half a year courses of oral antibiotics, like minocycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, or tetracycline. Topical retinoids may be used to improve this treatment. An initial flare-up at the first two to the three-week mark can be seen. This flare-up is associated with the break out of the pores and drainage of sebaceous elements.

Other Precautionary Measures To Cure Acute Acne
Apart from the prescribed medications and topical treatments, you can manage acne with a few other precautionary measures that may help:

  1. Shun using harsh soaps. Be tender with soaps as they can aggravate and dry out your skin. Rinse your face a gentle soap made especially for acne along with lukewarm water but not more than twice a day.
  2. Though it may be intriguing to pick at acne, it can traverse to consequent contamination and scarring. Do not rub the skin or split the pimples, as this may push the infection further down, creating more swelling, blocking, and redness.
  3. Prefer a sunscreen that suits your skin type. Several topical medications can make you susceptible to skin rashes from sunlight, so it's essential that your skin is guarded.
  4. Also keep your hair clean, as it accumulates skin and sebum residue. Avoid oleaginous hair products, as it can escalate the oil secretion of your face.

When your acne is persistent, you will have to combat with a combination of home remedial measures and prescribed treatments.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Facial Scrubs: Too Much of A Good Thing!

MD, MBBS
Dermatologist, Chennai
Facial Scrubs: Too Much of A Good Thing!

The market is replete with various facial scrubs that are favoured by men and women of all ages. These are especially helpful if you are facing dust and pollution every day, or are exposed to the sun for prolonged hours. Using facial scrubs is a form of exfoliation that helps in rubbing the granules into the skin so as to remove dead cells and give the skin a more supple tone. Yet, too much use of facial scrubs can also lead to a variety of skin troubles. So, how can you tell if you are overdoing our facial scrubbing routine?

  1. Redness and Peeling of the Skin: When you over exfoliate or use facial scrubs too often, you may find redness on your skin due to the constant abrasive action. Also, you may experience too much of skin peeling and flaking due to the same reason, instead of a mere clean up of the dead skin cells. In such cases, you will need to halt your process of constant buffing.
  2. Products with Green Tea Extracts: Using tea tree oil or green extracts can help in better exfoliation with a gentle action on your skin. This can soothe the skin and even prevent skin cancer, as per a variety of scientific and medical studies. Licorice root extract as well as cucumber based scrubs can also help in making the skin softer.
  3. Inflammation: Inflammation is another sign that you may be overdoing your facial scrubbing routine. You can use a scrub with bisabobol which usually comes from Chamomile. This can help in reducing inflammation due to constant exfoliation and facial scrubbing.
  4. Scrubbing Gear: Using a washcloth to clear away those dead skin cells or a scrubber or brush can turn out to be too harsh for your soft facial skin to handle. You must restrict the use of these tools to about once a week so that your skin does not get too dehydrated or wear a scrubbed look which does not have a glow.
  5. Testing a New Product: Test a new scrub over a small patch of your skin before using it to watch out for tell tale signs like rashes or other eruptions. Also, when you are using a seed or dry fruits based scrub, you must limit the use and not rub it around the delicate areas of the eyes and mouth so that the skin does not get rubbed too much, which can leave it loose.

Using facial scrubs should be limited and used only when you feel like there is too much build up of dirt and grime.

Homeopathic medicines like Acid Flour, Phosphorus, Lycopodium, Thuja and Silicea have been very effective in treating hair loss. It is very important to study the patient in great detail and find the exact cause of the problem and treat the root cause. Sometimes, there may be some hidden stress in the mind of the patient which may have caused this hairfall and it also needs to be treated accordingly if we want a permanent cure to the problem.

These are the methods to treat fastly pimples: • Imbalance in hormone level causes excessive sebum production and causes acne. So do not take stress and do exercise daily such as running, jogging and long breathing exercises. • Do YOGASANA daily. Especially do SINHASANA & SARVANGASANA daily. • Use oil free face wash and drink 7 -8 glass of water daily. • Do not touch your pimple because your finger transfer bacteria to it and make it worse. If you touch it then clean your face with water. • Take cucumber and papaya pulp. Mix it well and add 1 tablespoon Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it on face and leave it for 15 minutes. • Steam your face to open the pores, which in turn clear the skin. Steam your face for a couple of minutes. • Take 2 teaspoon of RAKTASHODAK SYRUP of BAIDYANATH company once a day.

Hello lybrate-user, this kind of excess weight (119 kg) is breeding ground for many diseases (blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, certain kind of cancers, arthritis etc), which can affect the quality of your life ahead. It is possible that your skin condition is also due to underlying hormonal abnormality which is at root of your excess weight. It may be a good idea to consult a skin specialist as well as an endocrinologist. This is a lifestyle related issue and it can be surely treated with intensive lifestyle modification program. Most people who are fat are made to feel that it is because you lack will power, you are lethargic and a weak person. But that is definitely not true. It is your your hormones which have made you fat and keeping you fat. Unless we make correct diagnosis and and create a diet and lifestyle plan to correct that hormonal abnormalities you will not be able to lose weight for long term. Most diet fails because they are low calorie and low fat. Instead of correcting metabolism, they make you feel low energy or makes you feel excessively hungry. Calorie counting is useless. If you want to count, count nutritional value of food in terms of protein, fiber, good fat etc. I am sure you did not gain this much weight suddenly but over a period of time. To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If you have tried this in past or if it does not work, then approach us for weightloss package of 6 months by lifestyle modification. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Brisk walks or jogging for 45 - 60 minutes every day. My best wishes.

As per your complain dark circles can occur due to causes like -Excessive stress. -Malnutrition. -Overuse of mobiles and laptops. -Sleep deprivation. -Allergies etc. I would suggest you to first of all reduce stress by doing meditation and breathing exercises. Take sufficient sleep. Avoid excess use of gadgets. You can start applying creams containing Kojic acid and Vitamin E. Grapeseed extract containing creams are helpful. You can also put pieces of cucumber over the closed eyes as it has soothing effects. You can also place grated potato over the eyes. Take multivitamin supplements. Drink plenty of water and take a nutritious diet. In case of no improvement consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can also advised lazer treatment for removing the dark circles.
