Dear lybrate-user, Cholesterol at 218 is absolutely fine. It does not require any medication. You have to keep healthy lifestyle, proper exercise, diet, stress free life to stay healthy. The pain in your chest is likely to be anatomical. Do some shoulder, arm, neck rotation, extension and strengthening exercises gently. It should solve the problem regards.

I am 41 years old. I had severe heart attack on 10.07.2016. After that I got anjoplasty on 11.7.2016. For which 3 stent has been inserted. As per doctor . He told all is alright. But I am feeling depressed as again it want happen. And at time of attack my heart was stop working for few seconds. So I am worried for my future.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
It is only 10 days after stents ae fitted on you & it is natural to be anxious about what next? do eat the right diet, exercise moderately, reduce stress & no smoking or exposure to pollution. As a rule if 3 blockages or more are detected, bypass surgery is a better choice but with 3 stents too you can lead a normal life if you follow prevention of heart attacks carefully. Do write back after you feel settled with 3 stents.

I am 49 years old man. I have high blood pressure & triglyceride level in blood. What are the remedies?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, Take Rauvolfia 1x, 2 tabs daily morning empty stomach and 1 tab in the evening. Drink plenty of liquids and cut down your fat, salt and sugar intake. go for a morning walk daily at least for 30 minute. Take a sound sleep and try to avoid anger. Home remedies to Control high BP:-1. Bananas are one fruit that people with high blood pressure can eat regularly to control it. Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which lessens the effect of sodium. So, try to eat one or two bananas daily. Along with bananas, you can try dried apricots, raisins, orange juice, spinach, baked sweet potatoes. 2. Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Experts recommend that lifestyle changes should be added to medication therapy when people with diabetes try to reduce their blood pressure. These changes include reduction of salt intake, weight loss, and moderately intense physical activity, like brisk walking for 30 to 45 minutes most days of the week. A study in 2002 found that 19.3 million American adults had diabetes, and it is estimated that a third of these adults are undiagnosed. Risk factors for diabetes include advancing age, obesity or being overweight, a family history of type 2 diabetes, and being a member of a minority population at increased risk. African-Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, Alaska natives, and Asians are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that an additional 26% of the US adult population has "pre-diabetes" and modification of some risk factors, like weight or sedentary lifestyle, may help these adults avoid development of diabetes. The American Diabetes Association recommends that people have a fasting plasma glucose test for an initial screening test. A positive test is determined by a level of blood glucose of greater than 126 mg/dL. If you have a positive fasting glucose test, your doctor may want to confirm it on a separate day with a repeat test. If your test results are "borderline" you may also want to have the test repeated on a separate occasion. There are several different screening tests to determine if you are at risk of diabetes or if you have diabetes. Each test has different advantages and disadvantages. If you have hypertension, your doctor should screen you for glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes. There is adequate evidence that people with blood pressure above 135/80 mm Hg who have diabetes discovered through a screening program will benefit from the strict blood pressure control strategies indicated for diabetic patients to reduce coronary heart disease.
The available evidence suggests that all adults with high blood pressure readings that are consistently greater than 135/80 mm Hg benefit from tighter control of risk factors associated with diabetes for prevention of coronary heart disease.

If heart attack comes once there are chances to come again it should be danger to life second attack.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can go a long way in preventing a heart attack. Take your medicines in time. Stay active. Eat healthy. Stop thinking about another heart attack. Live a stress free life. This is a key to healthy heart.

Drinking Alcohol can lead to heart disease . I am drinking alcohol continuously from last 15 years . From last two months I having pain in my left side of body including my heart, shoulder, neck , head . Exactly it does not pain but some nosiating feelings with heavy sweating . I have done my ECG and BP checked but reports were normal . please do advice ? Thanks.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Good to know that your reports are normal, alcohol in moderation does not lead to heart disease provided one is careful about diet- no fried food as snacks or overeating other unhealthy foods. At 42, do get liver function tests (alcohol does lead to liver failure), echo test & then a stress test. These are routine tests for heart and are suggested to everyone.

Hi doc I feel like there is something wrong with my heart in the beat. I feel like its beating more. When I do a brisk walk in treadmill it's going around 125-127. When I do trivial physical task it's going upto 100. How can I assess my heart health. No bad habits I have.

MB, BS. M.D

I think you are young, healthy adult. It is common to have pulse 100 if you get exerted. Any how if you still need to check your heart get one ecg, x- chest, etc.

I have high BP and cholesterol as well. I do regular exercise like 10 min running on treadmill, and then some weight exercise for 40 min. Is it ok to do running and weight exercise for me for 40 to 50 min regularly.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, DM - Cardiology, Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS - Physician )
Cardiologist, Delhi
Exercising is very essential in the management of both deranged cholesterol and high BP. But instead of weight exercise, just keep it 40 mins of brisk walking or treadmill and if even after 4-6 weeks of this your levels do not become normal, u will need medicines. Eat healthy, avoid junk and high salty food

MD - Internal Medicine

Hi thanks for posting your query. Well I would advise him to get angiogram and if required angioplasty. He also needs to be started with antiplatelet medications like clopilet-a. Also ask your cardiologist about dual chamber pacing which can improve his condition.
