I am 21 years old, I have problem with my nose I get mucus from my nose while eating, when ever I get mucus even I get irritation also because I get mucus all time when ever I take little of spicy food.

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
A lot of people whenever they have any spicy food the nose starts running. The spicy foods trigger the nasal mucosa to produce excess mucous. The only way to prevent this is to avoid eating spicy foods. If you like having spicy foods there is no harm in the nose running. It is a very temporary problem. So you can choose what is it that you want.

Nose Surgery - Why Should You Consult Your Doctor Before Opting For It?

M.Ch (Plastic)

Nose Surgery - Why Should You Consult Your Doctor Before Opting For It?

A nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is performed to alter the structure and shape of your nose and improve its function and or appearance. Here are a few things you should know about nose surgeries:

  1. Consult your doctor: Before deciding on undergoing a nose surgery, speak with a doctor regarding issues with your nose. Your doctor will check your problems and judge whether or not surgery is a feasible option. It is only with your doctor's confirmation that you should go for the surgery.
  2. Procedure:
    • The surgery is done either with local anesthesia (your nose and surrounding areas will be numbed) or general anesthesia (you will fall asleep).
    • The surgeon will make incisions in your nostrils and base of the nose and alter the shape, structure and position of the cartilages in your nose for appealing shape and better functionality. Polyp removal is also done by rhinoplasty.
  3. Recovery after the surgery: You will be required to wear a nose splint. You can expect swelling around the eyes, which will begin to subside after the third day. Swelling in the nose will go away after six months. Therefore, do not expect to see your results immediately, final condition of your nose will be apparent after the recovery period is over. You should avoid strenuous activity for 3 to 6 weeks. Do not smoke or drink alcohol during recovery. Smoking slows recovery time and alcohol reduces normal effects of drugs.

Type of rhinoplasty you can opt for

  1. Closed rhinoplasty: Incisions are made inside the nostrils and hence there is no scarring.
  2. Open rhinoplasty: An additional cut is made along the columella and this may result in scarring. However, the position of the scar is such that it is almost unnoticeable.

Risks associated with it

Any surgical procedure has certain risks. These risks associated with nose surgery include:

  1. Infection
  2. Adverse effect to anesthesia
  3. Unfavorable outcomes
  4. Visible scarring
  5. Numbness
  6. Difficulty breathing
  7. Chronic nosebleeds
  8. A perforated septum
  9. Hematoma
  10. Burst blood vessels
  11. Nervous damage
  12. Possibility of revision surgery

Hello doctor, im 24 yr old man. My nose always remain closed one at a time, whether it is winter or summer. This does not make any problem to my daily routine. But it surely changes my vocal tone. Can please suggest me anything?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

-Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts). Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat.Take only lukewarm water to drink during the day -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily with karvol plus capsules. if it still not improve then get urself investigated for DNS: deviated nasal septum

This may be chronic sinusitis. You need evaluation by nasal endoscopy and perhaps a ct scan. Based on this treatment will need to be suggested.

I do not smoke and drink, non-egg eater, pure vegetarian. I am not also a Hypertension patient and my BP went up due to heavy bleeding from my nose. Soon after it became normal and remains so even now. I think my septum deviation must have caused such a large amount of bleeding, never occurred to me for the last 20 years.

MS - ENT, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Hyderabad
Sir. It is other way round. It is your hypertension that caused bleeding nose. Our nose has a lining membrane called nasal mucosa which contains blood vessels and due to aging they become stiff loosing ability to contract in response to injury/bleeding. Your hypertension creates increased pressure in the blood vessel leading to bleeding. Correction of deviated nasal septum and removal of any spurs in the septum, may solve your problem provided hypertension is under control.

I am only 15 years age and I have a ear blocking problem due to wax every year the same repeats. So please say the final remedy by which I can be free from this.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Let the water go inside the ears which will clean your ears, but do not clean the ears yourself if you clean the ears yourself than only the wax goes in side.

2 days onwards I have full cold and headache while am getting cold I got teeth and ear pain also why.

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
Allergy is the main cause of your cold which leads to a headache when the sinus openings get blocked. The cold can get the ear involved too. Take an anti allergic tablet for about 10 days. The symptoms should go away. The teeth pain is because of the maxillary sinus (the sinus in the cheek area) getting affected.
