A 30 year old female patient has persistent swelling in both arms and both legs since past 6 months. The reason for this problem is not yet known. It is also not known which line of doctors needs to be consulted in this regard. Earlier she complaint about trembling in hands, fainting for 15 to 60 minutes, which is not repeating now. She also suffered low blood pressure occasionally. Want to know the right treatment for the problem.

Please note the following in respect to your queries: The three most common types of edema are peripheral, cerebral and eye edema. Swelling can result from capillaries leaking fluid into the surrounding tissue. The symptoms of edema mainly depend on what the underlying cause is. The cause of edema may be diagnosed by chest X-ray, blood tests, urine tests, liver function tests or heart function tests. Edema is normally caused by a more significant underlying disease or condition. You should do the above test and then treatment would proceed.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 1 wk, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

maintain proper posture while sitting. Don't sit at one place continously for hrs. Avoid doing work which involves bending forward.. Avoid lifting heavy weights. proper rest is important. You can consult for medications

I had slipped in the bathroom few years back. Since then I get very bad pain in the hip joint going down to the knees n whole leg. Mostly left side. Mri of lower back & hip joint had shown inflammation of hip joint after suffering for one month. Neurologist had prescribed several blood tests which showed that its not even arthritis. This pain has been coming and going through the years. At times it went with painkiller like indocap. When in pain i'm unable to walk, stand, sit or lie down comfortably. Feels as if one leg is shorter than the other. Please help me as nothing has been diagnosed in so many years despite tests. Right now in severe pain since a month and a half.

Sir, stomach pain in pt with ra can be due to side effects of the medicines. Some of the dmards can cause gastritis. Also the long term use of nsaids (pain killer) in ra may be the cause. Kindly consult your doctor.

hello, jab gardan par zor se jhatka lagta hai, toh muscles Jo rest me thi suddenly stretched ho jati hai. muscles ready nhi hoti but activity ho jati hai jiski wajah se muscles dard hoti hai. Jise hum muscle soreness kehte hai. Pain agar zyada hai to aap kisi physio ya orthopaedic doc se referbkar skte ho.

1. Drink plenty of water and other fluids 2. High fibre diet (green leafy vegetables) 3. Sitz bath - take a tub of warm water, add two spoons of salt and sit in that water in such a way that the anal area gets submerged. Do this at least twice daily.

Treating Joint Pain With Ayurvedic Remedies

Joints are intersections between bones; they provide support to your body during movement. There are a host of conditions which might lead to joint pain; they are bursitis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. The most common joint pain disorders are knee pain, hip pain and shoulder pain. 

Ayurveda associates joint pain with loss of bone density in the joints. This problem is characterized by a feeling of discomfort and cracking sounds. If the condition is not treated, it might lead to immobilization of the joint. The condition of the bones tends to deteriorate as they do not receive enough nutrition. 

The other cause that leads to joint pain is toxin accumulation in the joints. As the toxin accumulates, it leads to heavy and stiff joints. If preventive measures are not taken on time, continuous accumulation of toxins may lead to swollen joints. 

The various Ayurvedic remedies for joint pain are:

  1. Diet: Focus on eating foods especially that are salty, sour and sweet in taste. Add healthy foods such as rye and quinoa along with ghee as they pacify the "vata" in your body. Focus on natural foods such as vegetables and fruits to your diet.
  2. Herbs: Certain herbs such as turmeric help to treat joint pain. It contains curcumin that has anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing the pain. You may also consume fenugreek seeds for its antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties. 
  3. Lifestyle Changes: Make sure you exercise on a daily basis, do basic bodyweight exercises such as push-ups and squats to improve your strength. You may also start with yoga workouts to build flexibility and mobility in your body.
  4. Smoking and Alcohol: Limit smoking and alcohol consumption to keep your body healthy, and free from free radical damage. Alcohol may also cause you to put on weight, thus leading to obesity. Smoking may cause various problems in the lungs that may lead to breathing disorders.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You sustained this injury to your left shoulder while doing bench press exercise. It could be just a soft tissue injury but it has to be carefully evaluated and managed. As a general management way, if you have only mild shoulder pain with no associated swelling or any instability, then you should start with activity modification, gentle anti inflammatory medications, physical therapy and wait till your pain and associated symptoms subside. Subsequently start gradually with proper pre activity warmup and a slow increments in physical activity everyday as per pain tolerance. Treating your sprained ankle properly may prevent chronic pain and instability. For a Grade I sprain, follow the R.I.C.E. Guidelines: Rest your ankle by not walking on it. Limit weight bearing. Use crutches if necessary; if there is no fracture you are safe to put some weight on the leg. An ankle brace often helps control swelling and adds stability while the ligaments are healing. Ice it to keep down the swelling. Don't put ice directly on the skin (use a thin piece of cloth such as a pillow case between the ice bag and the skin) and don't ice more than 20 minutes at a time to avoid frost bite. Compression can help control swelling as well as immobilize and support your injury. Elevate the foot by reclining and propping it up above the waist or heart as needed.   Swelling usually goes down with a few days. Once you can stand on your ankle again, please go to a Physiotherapist, who will prescribe exercise routines to strengthen your muscles and ligaments and increase your flexibility, It's important to complete the rehabilitation program because it makes it less likely that you'll hurt the same ankle again. If you don't complete rehabilitation, you could suffer chronic pain, instability and arthritis in your ankle. If your ankle still hurts, it could mean that the sprained ligament has not healed right, or that some other injury also happened. To prevent future sprained ankles, pay attention to your body's warning signs to slow down when you feel pain or fatigue, and stay in shape with good muscle balance, flexibility and strength in your soft tissues.

I am 60 years old. I am regular at gym for more than 10 years and do cardio every day for about an hour. Of late I am having pain in both my knee caps and also lower back (on the left hip). What do I do. Do I have to stop my regular tread mill exercise then what is the alternative.

Alternative to treadmill is walking on sandy or soft surface. Cycling is another option which avoids weight on knees. Swimming is also good exercise.

Dear , if you are having multiple joint pain it' s more likely to be rheumatoid type arthritis. Gout is usually located to one or two joints and the pain comes and goes. A few blood tests can help in differentiating the two. Send me your detailed history and any tests that you have done.

Dear lybrate user use hot pack 15 minutes twice a day and use ointment stretching exercise of back muscles, strengthening exercise of back muscles, avoid forward bending, heavy weight lifting use hard bed. Change working habit etc.
