Dental Decay
Dental Decay

Hello,

I am Dr. Rahul Today I'm going to talk a little bit about dental decay which unfortunately is one of the most ignored things by the patient so basically this dental decay affects our teeth at three different levels. First level is when it is just superficial confined within the outer surface of the tooth, it is ignored at this stage why? because patient never experiences any kind of pain or sensitivity because our enamel does not have any nerves. If a patient visits a dentist routinely, these superficial cavities would be detected and they can be treated by a normal dental filling.

However, if it is ignored the decay can advance to the next level, which is grade 2 and the cavity then enters the second layer of the tooth which is the dentin. Now this dentin, the second layer has got nerve endings so the patient can experience pain or not pain really but he can experience sensitivity, if it is still ignored it would advance to the next level and it would enter the nerve or pulp as we call it. Once it enters the pulp then the patient would experience extreme sensitivity or extreme pain. During this period the patient has to visit a dentist and now the dentist cannot do a filling in that particular tooth why? because it has crossed that level. Now this infection needs to be treated by doing a root canal treatment.

If in certain cases, if the patient still you know because of more phobia or fear of going to a dental clinic or a dentist, if he still tends to take some medicines and ignore it then the cavity would destroy the tooth completely and then the patient has to have an extraction. So now the treatment becomes more expensive and extensive as well, now multiple visits would be required, the expense of having implants or bridges or some other treatment modality comes into the picture and that is why it is very important to visit a dentist once in six months, have a checkup, have a basic cleanup, so that if there is any problem it can be treated at a basic level rather than it getting bigger and you have to have more or something major treatment done. If you are looking for any kind of dental services or you are looking for a routine checkup, you can find us on lybrate.

Thank you

Dental Implant
Dental Implant

Hello,

This is Dr. Rahul. Today I'm going to talk a little bit about dental implants as everyone must be aware these dental implants are titanium screws which are placed into the bone and it is a replacement for missing tooth now our missing teeth can be replaced in a number of ways. One is with the help of dentures which are conventional dentures which are almost obsolete nowadays thanks to dental implants and bridges. Other option is with the help of bridges but for that you need to sacrifice your adjacent teeth, shave them up and use them as abutments to have a replacement. The best way to replace missing teeth is with the help of dental implants why? because you're not sacrificing, you're not damaging your adjacent teeth and you are taking support directly from your jaw bone.

To determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants or not there is something called CBCT, which is a 3D scan which helps us to determine what is the quantity as well as the quality of bone present. Once the 3D scan is done we can exactly determine the dimensions of your bone and we can plan how many implants are required, what is the design of the implant that is required which is best suitable for your case and what are the sites for implant placement. Also apart from that it also helps us to understand what are the anatomical structures present around the site of the implant placement like the maxillary sinus, if there are some nerves present in the lower jaw which is in the way of placing the implants, so if there are some adjunct procedures required for placing the implants we would determine that.

Once the implants are placed we need to give our body some time to heal which is probably three to four months. During this period what happens is, your bone will integrate or fuse with the dental implants, once these fusions happens or once this integration happens that means now the foundation is rock solid over which you can have your crowns placed and over which you will have your teeth, once you have these teeth in, you can chew on to your nuts or whatever hard foods you want to chew and that will make sure that you have a beautiful smile as well. If you want to know more about dental implants and if you are looking for a similar kind of treatment you can check us on lybrate.

Thankyou.
