Acne - 6 Things You Should Know!

Acne - 6 Things You Should Know!

Acne is a condition that affects many people including teenagers and adults. It is characterised by blackheads/ whiteheads, pus filled eruptions, red eruptions that are usually filled with oil, secreted by overactive oil glands in the hair follicles. So what else should you know about acne? Here are six things you probably did not know about this condition:

Clogged pores: Acne signifies clogged or blocked pores that are filled with oil and dead skin cells that have not been cleaned out completely. This mixture of oil and dead skin cells blocks the pores and ends up creating an eruption of red sores called acne and pimples. There is a chance that bacteria may have joined these two substances as well.

Over treating the skin: The worst thing that you can do is to touch, pick or even apply too many harsh chemicals to your skin during an acne breakout. These things can actually make the problem worse, and create marks and scars in the long run! The constant use of cleansers and moisturisers can also have a harsh effect on the skin, due to the perfume and chemicals present in such products.

Exfoliation: Using a salicylic acid wash or cleanser first thing in the morning will help in exfoliation, which is a good way to clear those dead skin cells from your skin. This will speed up the process of acne treatment as well, by clearing the pores. Also at night, the use of a medicated cream that helps in killing the bacteria, or reducing formation of blackheads and whiteheads or reducing the size of pimples as advised by dermatologist will help.

Three weeks rule: Trying new products to treat acne is a great idea. But give every new product at least two - three weeks before you write it off. Usually, any good product will take at least that much time to affect the acne, and clear the pores in an effective way. So before you start switching cleansers and creams every other day, remember to use the three-week thumb rule.

Menstrual cycle: Acne, more often than not, rears its head with an eruption or two about five days before and a few days after, the monthly menstrual cycle. So watch out for hormonal imbalances, which can cause acne and pimples. Avoid stress around this time too.

Diet : some foods can increase acne, viz. Chocolates, oily food and in some people.... even dairy products. Try and reduce their intake. Load up on fruits and vegetables. Dont forget to have 1 - 2 litres of water everyday.

Visit a dermatologist if regular cleaning and over the counter creams are not working.

Persistent acne may turn into an infection. Remember to ask a dermatologist for an oil reducing formula too.

Acne is a skin problem that should be treated the right way.

Is skin allergy (ringworm) is dangerous. suggest a best way to get rid of it sir.

Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), MBBS

Ringworm is not a skin allergy. It is a fungal infection which spreads through contact. Visit your nearest dermatologist. Who will be able to give you the required medications after assessing the extent of infection. Do not use steroid based creams. Which are given to you by the pharmacist / chemist or friends or neighbours or family members. your problem wil reduce momentarily and wil b complicated even more by use of steroid creams. Wash your clothes seprate from that of family members to avoid spreading the infection. After washing clothes saok clothes in plain hot water for 10 minutes.

Hi, I am 23 years old married women. I have some ringworms near my thigh. Or I can say jock itch. I use fourderm and clotrimazole. But it doesn't work for me. Please recommend me a better solution for those ringworms. Because I am afraid of vaginal ringworms. I don't want to be happen. Please please help me.

Stop fourderm cream. It is a steroid based cream and is causing the ringworm to spread. Eberconazole cream twice a day, to b applied on and 2 cms beyond the rash as well avoid dettol. After washing your clothes, keep them soaked in hot water for 10 mins it is better to visit a dermatologist to know if oral medications are required. As examination is needed to see the extent of skin problem. If any other family members are affected, please ask them to visit a dermatologist as well. Wash your clothes seperately P.s. Ringworm does not affect the vagina. It infects only skin.

Hi I'm suffering from keloid for the past 7 years. They appear on my chest and shoulders. I consulted dermatologist and took medication (steroid injections) for two years. Keloid on chest area got reduced but on shoulder area it remains the same. Kindly let me know if there is any cure for it either in ayurveda or homeopathy? Else any other way to reduce itching or keloid size using any medicines or ointments?

If they r itchy, means the keloid is in active stage. Steroid injections works fastest in softening the keloids and limiting its growth. Other than that you can apply MOMATE cream at night HEXILAC - SILICON /VANIZA / OPEXA GEL twice or thrice a day and apply a small plastic sheet on top so tht the absorption of medicine is more from skin than on clothes.

I have psoriasis (7 years) on scalp and on nose area. I have taking every precaution to keep it low as possible. Recently, I developed two small white patch (vitiligo) on left side of the mouth (3 months). This situation keeps me worried most of the time. I am taking each and every precaution. I even started homeopathic treatment. Is there anything else I should keep in mind treating these white patches because I don't want them to grow.

Keeping in mind your ageand the sites involved. Scalp and nose. It is more likely that you have seborrheic dermatitis rather than psoriasis. But would require a more extensive history and clinical examination to confirm. With regards to vitiligo, if it is confirmed, you can apply FLUTIVATE cream in the morning for 3 weeks MELBUILD lotion at night and revert thereafter.

This question is for my friend. She is 20 years old and for the past 5 years she is suffering from pimples problem. So please give the best prescription without any side effects.

Pimples are of different grades. And depending on her type of acne, the medications whether oral or creams, will change accordingly. In general, it is better to avoid oily food, dairy products and chocolates. Avoid touching, scratching, squeezing pimples as it leads to marks which take a long time to go. Do not listen to friends and neighbours and try using creams that they have used. Consult a dermatologist instead and see what will suit your skin best and bring about improvement.

Hello sir Please suggest me a effective medicine or hair oil for regrowth of the hair. Thanks.

Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), MBBS

Oils do not help regrowth of hair. It helps to condition the hair and protect it from environmental damage. Juene hair oil combines different oils and growth factors. You can try it. Apply on scalp as well as hair, once a day for best results. Depending on what caused hair loss, medical management differs. You can try using the oil, but you might require medications if your hair fall isn't reducing.
