Hi, if you really want to cure your anxiety forever, you need to have a long term treatment plan that takes into consideration your anxiety symptoms, what you're suffering from, how badly you're suffering, and your specific anxiety disorder. First and foremost, don't let your anxiety cause you to make poor decisions about anxiety treatments. The reality is that most" rapid" treatments don't work. You'll find many people that claim that they have an extract or a medicine that can cure your anxiety immediately, and unfortunately it's never the case - it's people taking advantage of you in your time of need, and hoping the placebo effect will be enough to cure your anxiety. Even prescription medications have a" false" component. Prescription medicines can give you some help with anxiety, but that help is only temporary, and your mind and body can actually become dependent on these medications. As soon as you stop taking them, your anxiety may not only come back - it could even be worse than before. Curing your anxiety is a process - it's a process that can happen, for everyone, but those that hope they can get instant anxiety help are going to be disappointed, and possibly taken advantage of. Your symptoms define your anxiety if you really want to cure your anxiety forever, you need to have a long term treatment plan that takes into consideration your anxiety symptoms, what you're suffering from, how badly you're suffering, and your specific anxiety disorder. Imately effective treatment. Setting up a long term plan - making realistic goalsi possible to reduce your anxiety every day. There are countless tips to learn to manage it. But you need to do two things: you need to make sure that you're giving yourself realistic goals. You need to make it a long term plan. You can get anxiety help now - help that will genuinely reduce your experience with anxiety. But it will only reduce it so much. You'll still need to keep at it, and commit to it in a way that will guarantee short and long term results. Realistic goals will ensure that you don't give up. You're bound to have setbacks, because life isn't stress free. A long term plan will also make sure that you keep at it - you'll not only have something to do next, you'll also know what to do next. For example, let's look at several strategies you can do right now that will reduce your anxiety: start jogging jogging isn't just for your health. Jogging releases endorphins, which are neurotransmitters that improve mood. It also tires muscles, and there is evidence that extra energy in muscles becomes converted to a feeling of anxiety. Sleep better getting more sleep will fight anxiety right away. Far too many people are allowing themselves to be sleep deprived, but sleep is one of the most important and easy tools your mind has for coping with stress. Breathing training many anxiety symptoms, particularly for those with anxiety attacks, are a result of inadequate breathing techniques. Anxiety can actually train your body to breathe poorly, leading to hyperventilation and a variety of related symptoms. Exposure therapy exposure is a cognitive behavioral technique that trains you to get used to things that used to cause you anxiety. For example, if you often get anxiety when you feel dizzy, you spin around in a chair and use a variety of techniques to calm your mind. Lifestyle changes many lifestyle changes that you will need to make in order to live with anxiety also require long term changes. For example, who you spend time with may need to change, as will how you react at your workplace. These strategies take longer, and require more effort and planning on your part. They're also not immediately successful, and there are often setbacks. Realistic goals and an effective and healthy plan can reduce the effects of these setbacks. You'll also need to be okay with admitting to yourself that you have an anxiety problem that needs to be solved. If you continue to try to fight the truth about your anxiety, you'll struggle to overcome it. Anxiety and stress are very real problems that affect people every day, and there's nothing wrong with you if you suffer from them. As soon as you can come to terms with your anxiety, you'll be on the right path towards treating it.

What Is Bipolar Disorder?

MD - Psychiatry, Diploma in Child & Adolescent Psychology , MBBS
Psychiatrist, Pune
What Is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is the medical term for extreme depression and mood swings that are abnormal or too frequent. The mood swings may go from depression to mania, where the symptoms may border on suicidal behaviour, and other such dangerous tendencies. Find out more about Bipolar Disorder with this article.

Main Symptoms: The major symptoms of Bipolar Disorder are hypomania and depression. The patient may swing between these two states on a sudden basis. The dramatic mood swings do not have a set routine or pattern and can strike at any given time. The patient may be in a certain kind of state for a prolonged period like many weeks and months, or can even be in a certain state for a matter of days, before the next mood strikes.

While hypomania is a very severe outcome of Bipolar Disorder, many people do not recognise it as a problem until it gets out of hand. This state can actually make a person feel high on energy where the patient may also achieve all-time highs in terms of productivity and a sense of wellbeing. This state can switch to a state of depression and hopelessness within a matter of days or weeks.

Types: Bipolar Disorder can be categorised into many types, depending on the level and severity of the mood swings. To begin with, Bipolar Disorder has full blown cycles of ups and downs in the mood of the patient. The up mood never really manifests into full fledged mania. This is a more mild form of the disease and the symptoms are often missed.

Rapid Cycling is another form of Bipolar Disease where a patient may experience at least four or even more episodes of major mood swings within a period of 12 months. Further, Mixed Bipolar is a form of the disease where the depression and elevation may come together or in rapid succession of each other. Cyclothymia is another mild form of this mood disorder and comes with subtle changes in one's mood.

Diagnosis and Treatment: While the diagnosis is done by a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist with the help of an examination of the symptoms, the treatment includes long term counselling and therapy as well as medication for more severe cases. The drugs and therapy aim at making the mind more stable with psychotherapy. Drugs like lithium or benzodiazepine can also be prescribed to control sleeplessness and hyperactivity as well as hostility and suicidal tendencies.

Talking and discussing things are the foremost methods used by psychiatrists when it comes to treating this disease. Persistent mood alterations must be run past a specialist in the field.

Fregoli Syndrome Vs Capgras Syndrome - Causes + Symptoms

MBBS, M.D Psychiatry , Diploma in Psychological Medicine
Psychiatrist, Navi Mumbai
Fregoli Syndrome Vs Capgras Syndrome - Causes + Symptoms

Fregoli syndrome and Capgras syndrome are psychological disorders which cause the patients to develop delusions regarding the people around him and his social interaction. They are called delusional misidentification syndromes (DMs). Both conditions are extremely rare and are believed to develop in patients who already have other psychiatric disorders. The two conditions can be compared in the following ways:

  1. Nature of the disease: Patients with Fregoli delusion believe that the many people around him or her are actually the same person in many different disguises. Capgras syndrome, on the other hand, causes the patient to think that someone who he or she interacts with on a daily basis has been replaced by an impostor.
  2. History: Fregoli syndrome was discovered in 1927 in a woman who thought her favorite actresses were disguising themselves as her friends, her employers and even strangers. The doctors named the condition after Italian entertainer Leopoldo Fregoli who did excellent impersonations of contemporary political figures. Less than 50 cases of the disorder have been reported worldwide since then.

Capgras syndrome was discovered in 1922 by French psychiatrist Joseph Capgras. The patient claimed that identical impostors had taken the places of her husband and some of her friends. This disorder is seen more commonly in women than in men and has more reported cases than Fregoli syndrome.

What causes it?
Fregoli delusions can be caused by severe injury to the temporal and parietal areas of the brain or other neural pathways.

Capgras syndrome has more complicated neuroanatomical causes. It is often seen in patients of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and sometimes in patients of bipolar disorder and paranoia.

Symptoms behind them
The symptoms of Fregoli syndrome are delusions, visual and auditory hallucinations, cognitive defects, problems in visual memory and motor functioning.

Capgras syndrome is characterized by delusions, lack of emotional response to a familiar face, constant anxiety and depression.

Antipsychotic medication is generally used to treat Fregoli delusions. Anti-seizure drugs and anti-depressants are prescribed to combat other symptoms of the disorder. The family members of the patient are also counselled so that they do not feel insulted by the patient's behavior.

Individualized cognitive therapy is much more beneficial in case of Capgras syndrome than medication. Habilitation therapy is a form of treatment where the patient is not repeatedly contradicted and corrected. Usually the patients' family members are made to talk to them about their mistakes gently without arguing with them. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist.

I am in a relationship with a guy from last 2.5 years. During this time we had a lot of problems some created by me some by him. From June to august, we had a break up and my mom got involved in between. Since September, we started talking again but then in between we still had problems. He wanted me to leave my modeling which I started in june. He gave me an option to chose him or modeling. It's like I love him and I can't be without him. I feel he doesn't trust me because he doesn't want me to talk to any random person or make friends. But he does everything to make me happy. I don't know what should I do. Moreover I want to continue my modeling but I am scared to tell him that because I am afraid to lose him. I be happy when he is around but then at the end of the day I feel low and cry myself to sleep. We are still in relationship but today again he fought. He thinks I do everything intentionally. I have tried harming myself too when there are issues between us. I just can't live without that person. I don't know why but he wants conditions in our relationship that I should not do this. He wants I should not commit mistakes. I am a human after all even if I do he should handle me being calm. Help me.

Hello! Thanks a lot for sharing your problem. This is a very sensitive issue you shared. I would like to ask you: 1) Is it worth carrying on a relationship that is based on limitations or conditions 2) Is it worth carrying on a relationship that gives pain or instigates pain Some decisions that we take in life are not always easy, we have to choose and the choice may hurt us for some time but it may give a permanent relief to the problem :) Hope you make the right decision about your life. Regards.

Hi, Previously I was addicted of smoking but now I smoke One cigarette in a week. So Will it be still harmful?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Yes even one will be harmful and stop it. Best age to stop smoking is before 40, In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.
