Hello everyone, I am 24 years old from the last 3 years. I neither gained any weight nor lost. Is it a problem? Adding to this whenever I get cold immediately tonsils affecting me much followed by cough, this same pattern is observing from the last few years. Suggest me the right thing. Thanking you in advance.

Pulmonologist, Bareilly
Dear Lybrate user, maintaining the same weight is a tremendous achievement. It seems your immunity is low as you succumb to common infections easily. Try to add more nutrition, greens, proteins, fresh fruits to your existing diet. Exercise daily and you can take advice of a Pulmonologist for Influenza vaccination to help you fight infections. Wishing you good health.

Tonsillitis in Kids: Best Ways to Deal With it!

Tonsillitis in Kids: Best Ways to Deal With it!

Tonsillitis, in the easiest terms, is the swelling of tonsils in our throat that is accompanied by symptoms like throat pain, difficulty in swallowing/ drinking, altered voice and fever etc.

As in the case of most infections, the occurrence of tonsillitis is more common in children due to relatively lower immunity and habits that invite infections. Let's take a look at the first line of defence when you have a cranky child with swollen tonsils.

1. Make your child gargle with salty warm water: This treatment is most helpful in any infection in the mouth. Add half teaspoonful of salt to a glass of warm water and make the child gargle with the mixture as many times in the day as possible (to a maximum of 5 times). Continue till the condition prevails. Gargles difficult in children below 10yrs, but one can try gargles in older children. Make sure the child spits out the water and not drinks it.

2. Antibiotics: Consult a child specialist or pediatrician in case throat pain and fever doesn't settle, inspite of home remedies and let your doctor decide if antibiotics are required, rather than going for self medication as it have side effects.

3. Painkiller/numbing lozenges: Painkillers that are prescribed by the doctor can be given to ease the pain. Same is the case with lozenges but care should be taken that he/she should not have too many of these.

4. Allow him/her to take rest: It does help in a betterment of the condition!

5. Give warm (not hot) soothing food: Soup, ginger honey mixture, ginger tea can help soothe the inflamed tonsils in most cases. The condition, more often than not, gets better within 7-10 days. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.

Yes dear, if tonsils are grade iv means if they meet in the center than surgery is recommended or if you get fever very often than also surgery is the solution, and lastly if swallowing problem than also is the indication of tonsillectomy and do not worry et al, this is simple surgery and less complications.

Hello, Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils most commonly caused by viral or bacterial infection. Tonsillitis is common, especially in children. The condition can occur occasionally or recur frequently. Under normal circumstances, as viruses and bacteria enter the body through the nose and mouth, they are filtered in the tonsils. Within the tonsils, white blood cells of the immune system destroy the viruses or bacteria by producing inflammation which also lead to fever. The infection may also be present in the throat and surrounding areas, causing inflammation of the pharynx. Medication: With the help of homoeopathic medication, the surgery can be avoided! Take Schwabe’s Alpha-Tons/ thrice a day daily for 4 weeks. Warm salt water gargle is recommended. Cover your throat with a stole.

Tonsil stones are formed when the trapped debris in tonsils hardens, or calcifies. This tends to happen most often in people who have chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis While many people have small tonsilloliths that develop in their tonsils, it is quite rare to have a large and solidified tonsil stone. The appropriate treatment for a tonsil stone depends on the size of the tonsillolith and its potential to cause discomfort or harm. Many tonsil stones, especially ones that have no symptoms, require no special treatment. Gargling with warm, salty water may help ease the discomfort of tonsillitis, which often accompanies tonsil stones. When tonsil stones are exceedingly large and symptomatic, it may be necessary to remove them or the entire tonsils.
