dental implants

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Meerut
Modern oral implantology can be traced since the 1960s, and it is now a predictable and successful treatment modality for edentulous (toothless) situations. A dental implant is a prosthetic tool that is fixed into the jaw to provide support to a crown, fixed denture, or removable denture.

A dental implant is a titanium pillar which helps to provide support when embedded into the jaw bone. Such titanium pillars are compatible with the human body and thus, are incredibly safe for usage. The implants then blend in with the bones and tissues and create a stable foundation for teeth restoration. By indulging into a process called abutment where the repair is attached with the help if a connector, a natural look is then obtained for the implants.

Dental Implant Procedure
Problems Solved By Dental Implants
Used in for any tooth replacement; particularly useful for the:
Single tooth replacement
Completely toothless state
Long toothless spans.
When a fixed partial denture is compromised due to:
Weak abutments
Long toothless spans
Unfavorable number & location of abutments.
When a conventional complete denture may be compromised due to:
Poor muscular coordination.
Low tolerance of mucosal tissues
Hyperactive gag reflex
Procedure For Dental Implants
The surgical site is thoroughly cleaned and painted with 1% povidone-iodine solution to bring down the bacterial colony count in the mouth.

Incision: Standard trapezoidal incision or Branemark system buccal incision is made midway between the crest and depth of the vestibule, and then the flap is reflected lingually.
Drilling Into Bone: The manufacturer gives a guide to the sequence of drills (sizes) to be used to make proper sized drill hole for a particular implant.
Drilling:  The first drill invariably is the round one, to puncture the cortex at the crest. After that, the drills are used in ascending order of thickness.
Drilling Speed: Bone must be drilled at a speed less than 800 rpm. The drills are marked for depth to guide the surgeon as to how deep the hole should be.
Insertion: Implants are provided in a sterile pre-packed container with an implant carrier, which is gently taken to the drilled site and hand twisted to engage a few threads, and then a special ratchet is used to screw the implant up to its required depth. The implant carrier is removed then and a “healing cap” is screwed on to the visible implant top.
Irrigation: It is done with normal saline to keep the local bone temperature at normal body temperature and also to flush out the bone to debris from the drill hole.
Closing The Wound: 3’0 black silk is the preferred suture material with a traumatic curved needle. Interrupted sutures are placed and are removed 5-7 days postoperatively.
Advantages Of Dental Implants
Some of the advantages are as follows:

Preservation of bone: The placement of an implant will ensure that the bone level is maintained in that region.
Teeth can be positioned for aesthetics: With an implant, the teeth may be positioned where the natural one existed rather than in the neutral zones for stability.
Maintenance of vertical dimension: The loss of vertical dimension decreases due to wear and bone resorption. Implant dentures can maintain the vertical dimension, as bone resorption is minimal.
Occlusion: Easier to establish proper occlusion and occlusal loads can be directed.
Improved mastication: Enhanced bite force and masticatory efficiency.
Increased stability and retention
Reduced size of the prosthesis
The enhanced success rate of prosthesis

Lack of primary stability of implants

Tongue Problems - How To Handle It?

Tongue is an important organ of your body. Without the tongue you would not have been able to enjoy one of the most pleasurable experiences of life: tasting food! Imagine how life would be without the sudden euphoria you experience when you taste something delicious. Not only do your taste buds help you to taste food, but it also rejects harmful substances like toxins and sends your brain a signal to avoid consuming it. The tongue also helps in digestion of food. It makes the food pass easily from your mouth and throat to your stomach. Apart from tasting and sending signals to your brain, the tongue helps you to talk. It facilitates speech. It alters the air in your mouth which is produced by the vocal cords. That is how you make a wide range of sounds.

Tongue Problems:

  1. Burning sensation on the tongue: This normally occurs in women who have recently attained menopause. Mood swings are also a characteristic feature of menopause. Burning sensation is rare but a symptom of post menopause. Burning sensations can also occur due to cigarette smoking.

  2. Change in the tongue color: Many times having a pink tongue means deficiency in iron, folic acid and vitamin B-12. This can also be because of an allergy to gluten. A white tongue can occur due to smoking or drinking alcohol.

  3. Tongue pain: It can occur due to biting, injury or infection. Canker pains are also common. It can be caused by aging, diabetes, tumors and infection.

  4. Tongue swelling: It is caused by down-syndrome, tongue cancer, leukemia, strep throat and anemia.

  5. Oral thrush: It is a yeast infection. It makes the surface of the tongue and the mouth look like cottage cheese. People suffering from asthma or diabetes can also get oral thrush.

Remedies for tongue problem:

  1. Don't consume spicy and hot food.

  2. If you have a canker sore, try to drink only cold beverages and eat soft foods.

  3. Rinse your mouth regularly with a mixture of warm water and salt or you can also make a mixture of warm water and baking soda.

  4. Apply ice to soothe your tongue.

If the tongue pain persists then it is better to book an appointment with an ENT specialist or with an otolaryngologist.

Is Dentistry Expensive!

Is Dentistry Expensive!

Is dentistry expensive?

One word answer to this will be a No!

Dentistry is not expensive, delay is.

Usually we dentist recommend to come for check up every 6 months, but we all are lazy especially for our own health. Going for a picnic or going to mall is all right but going for health check up is a big no.
As a result the small cavities which were possible to treat in 1 sitting, half an hour & less expense turns into a deeper cavity, reaching pulp & causing painc  & that is when we run to our dentist. We do get calls at midnight or early morning when we are not out of bed! pain is there since 2-3 days but now it has become severe! most of the time tooth requires root canal treatment or extraction.Patients do complain very time I come to you, you suggest root canal to which my reply is only time you come to me when you have pain.
Now the same tooth which was possible to treat in 1 sitting becomes 6-8 sittings, half an hour becomes 5 hours & expense becomes 8-15 times.
