Salt - Know Good & Bad About It!

Salt - Know Good & Bad About It!

The salt content in food is a natural fact. People prefer salt in their food items in order to have taste, but medical research studies have suggested that excessive intake of salt leads the individuals to suffer from high blood pressure which is harmful to their wellbeing. Over the past century, medical research has become quite advanced. According to various researches, high consumption of salt in food can make the health conditions of the individuals get worse to a wide extent. Not only high blood pressure but consuming too much salt or sodium can cause heart complications for the individuals. However, the doctors have prescribed that the salt in the diet can have some health advantages which can positively impact the health conditions of the people.

Pros of containing salt in diet:

  1. Salt helps to control the blood sugar levels thereby improving insulin sensitivity
  2. Salt can act as a natural antihistamine, i.e., improving an allergic reaction or ensuring prevention from an asthma attack
  3. Salt intake helps to maintain proper stomach pH
  4. Sleep quality can also be improved through the intake of salt by suppressing stress and pressure from the individuals
  5. It also helps the body to function properly by enabling the nerves and the muscles to work appropriately
  6. Moreover, the intake of salt in the diet can also regulate blood pressure and volume

Apart from all these beneficial factors, medical science has listed certain drawbacks or cons of intake of salt that can affect the health conditions of the people. Scientists have proved and showed evidence that excess of salt in the diet can cost various innocent lives.

The negative factors of excessive salt intake have been listed below:

  1. Though salt level can regulate the blood pressure but intake of excessive salt leads to putting up the blood pressure to a considerable extent affecting their health conditions
  2. People can also suffer from hypertension and heart failures due to excessive consumption of salt in the food
  3. Stomach cancer, kidney stones and obesity can also be caused due to salty diet
  4. Intake of an excessive amount of salt leads to chronic fluid retention leading to heart failures
  5. Salt intake can cause obesity and vascular dementia
  6. Osteoporosis is also another danger that can take place in the people due to the intake of salt in their food.

Thus from the overall discussion, it can be said that medical researchers have thoroughly generated their views regarding the fact that salt or sodium intake can leave both the positive and negative impacts on the lives of the people. Hence, it is widely recommended by the doctors that people must reduce their salt consumption in their diet to reduce blood pressure and maintain a healthy living.

Sunglasses - Essential Or Mere A Style?

Sunglasses - Essential Or Mere A Style?

Sunglasses are an important part of the accessories you use in summer or at any time of the year. They help you to look fashionable and stylish and also make a pretty good style statement. But is that the only job of sunglasses? Or do they have something more to them? Here are a few reasons why sunglasses are more than just a style statement:

  1. The decrease in eye problems - Generally, you use sunscreen to protect your skin from the Sun. Similarly, sunglasses protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun. It is extremely important for you to protect the eyes so that the harmful UV rays cannot enter the sensitive eye tissue and harm them. If you do not use sunglasses, then you have a higher chance of damaging your eye tissue than a person who uses them regularly. Yes, it is also true that the strong UV rays can cause serious permanent damage to your eyes.
  2. Protection from other environmental components - Not only is the sun harmful to your eyes, but also the wind can be extremely dangerous for them. Dirt, sand, dust particles can fly into your eyes even when just a breeze is blowing. On a windy day, damage can be much more. If you are wearing sunglasses when out on a windy day, they act as a shield to your eyes against the wind and the particles, which might enter your eye.
  3. Helps clear vision - It's often difficult to have a clear vision when out in the Sun. The bright sunlight doesn’t give you the clarity in vision. Without protection, you will have reduced vision as the bright light of the Sun might cause you to discomfort in your eyes and limit your vision as you will have to squint in the bright light.
  4. Helps prevent ageing - Although it might sound a bit surprising, wearing sunglasses actually helps in preventing ageing. The bright rays of the sun cause you to squint and this causes the age lines to appear. So, if you wear sunglasses and your eyes are protected from the bright sunlight, then you will not be squinting anymore, and hence it will not cause the age lines to appear before time.

So now, before you think that sunglasses only make you look good, think again about how they actually do much more than that.

Overeating - How To Administer It In Kids?

Overeating - How To Administer It In Kids?

Are you concerned about your child’s overeating? Overeating may seem like a harmless act in the beginning, but it is in this that the root of childhood obesity lies. The germ that overeating, seeds in your child’s life, will affect him/her throughout their life. It is certainly a point of concern for anyone and to keep your child healthy and active, you must take precautionary measures from beforehand.

There are some, tips that you may find helpful to rein in the overeating behavior of your child. These tips are very simple and psychology based, they motivate your child to not overstuff their stomach.

  1. Make your child enjoy and love the food they are eating. Show them how much you are “enjoying” the food rather than just “eating” it. It should be like a celebration.
  2. Teach your children how to understand the difference between being full and overeating. Tell them to listen to their stomach and feel their stomach being full of the food; and consequently stop there, rather than going on eating. Your stomach sends a signal when it is on the threshold of being full and overfull. Your child needs to understand that signal and stop eating.
  3. Try to avoid power struggles both in the case of forcing them to eat or forcing them not to eat. If your child does not want to eat the food, don’t force-feed them. That creates a lasting impression and your child develops an aversion to food items. Rather, leave the food on the table and let your child know that they have access to the food and they can eat whenever they feel like it. Ultimately a hungry stomach will give in and he/she will return to the table. If your child wants to eat more someday, then he/she wants it because they are hungry that particular day, not because they are overeating. Plan some kind of activity after dinner or lunch, such as washing the plates, cleaning the kitchen, so that the food gets digested easily and quickly.
  4. Some foods act as a trigger for overeating. Savoury items such as chips, cheese balls, pizzas, etc. and sweet items such as chocolates, ice creams, cookies, candies, etc. fall in this category. These are palatable and are attractive to the kids. It is hard to stop consuming them and in certain cases becomes addictive. You need to teach your child the harm that these foods are causing to their health. Teach them with the help of pictures and videos the effects of diabetes, obesity and other such diseases on the human body.

Your child needs to love the food that they are eating and it is there that they will form a healthy relationship with food.

My wife had uncontrolled urine problem, especially in winter. She is diabetic, mild hypertensive and on telmisartan (telday 40) and metformin. We visited our diabetes doctor and he suggested to do sonography. Sonography reported 'renal parenchyma the doctor then suggested urine test. The urine test showed high protein. The blood test showed uric acid in blood. The doctor suggested febustat 40 tabs. We went to nephrologist. He prescribed telmisartan 40 mg. He said go to urologist. We found that there is nothing like urologist but all are uro surgeons. We went to uro surgeon, who said go back to nephrologist. There is nothing from his side to explain or prescribe as he is surgeon. This is not surgical case. Ridiculous. I want to know why there is uric acid in the blood? Is it related to some kidney problem or anything else? I also need to know what is the remedy to permanently stop uric acid high levels? Febustat is symptomatic relief. This cannot be stopped as after stopping the blood report goes back to positive uric acid. Also let me know if there is any such speciality as urologist or uro surgeon himself is called urologist.

My wife had uncontrolled urine problem, especially in winter. She is diabetic, mild hypertensive and on telmisartan (...
Urologist and uro surgeon are same. High uric acid is not only due to kidney problem. Uric acid is produced as a byproduct of purine metabolism and is normally found in blood. It is excreted by kidneys. High uric acid in blood may be due to its overproduction or may due to inability of kidneys to excrete it. Fabuxostat is a medicine prescribed commonly to reduce uric acid in blood. Your description is not clear. 1-what do you mean by unconrolled urine problem. Is it inability to hold urine or something else? 2-"sonography reported renal paranchyma" which does not explain anything. 3-what was the full urine report? 4-what is latest fasting, pp blood sugar and hba1c report. As uro surgeon has declared there s no surgical problem means physician or nephrologist can solve it.

I am taking half of 10 mg tryptomer antidepressants. How to cut dose mam /sir. Please help.
Reducing the dosage is entirely dependent on your doctor and your symptoms. This is a good medicine that can be used for a long time. But if you want to come off of medication, you need to combine medication with therapy. The fact that you want to go off of the medication is your drive to work really hard to come off of it. Here is what you need to do: combine medication with therapy to learn some coping skills and develop tools to face the day-to-day challenges with confidence. Then if you go episode-free for three years under the combination of medicine and therapy, you could initiate weaning you off of the medication gradually and under strict monitoring of the psychiatrist. I know that this may sound discouraging but if you had contacted me many years ago I would have told you at that time to combine the two therapies. But it is never too late, and now you have a clear agenda and time plan to resolve the depression. In the meantime please do the following: when you are depressed, you will feel lazy though I would like to call it lethargy. There is an inertia and lack of energy to even think, let alone act. You are required to literally do the opposite of what you feel like doing. Depression makes you want to withdraw, lie down, sleep, become lethargic, slow down, make you too lazy to even think etc. So when I suggested doing the opposite, you will need to fight this disease. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on tv or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved too. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in god to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. You have youth on your side.

How to confirm person has celiac disease or gluten allergy? Is ttg-iga is sufficient to diagnose it?

How to confirm person has celiac disease or gluten allergy?
Is ttg-iga is sufficient to diagnose it?
Two blood tests can help diagnose it: serology testing looks for antibodies in your blood. Elevated levels of certain antibody proteins indicate an immune reaction to gluten. Genetic testing for human leukocyte antigens (hla-dq2 and hla-dq8) can be used to rule out celiac disease.

Bed Sores - Know Risk Factors Of It!

Bed Sores - Know Risk Factors Of It!

Continuous pressure on the skin often results in injuries to the underlying tissues, causing what are generally known as skin sores. Though they generally occur in areas that cover bony areas like hips, ankles and tail bones, the part below the waist is most susceptible to them. There are multiple reasons that cause bed sores. Some common causes include-

-     Immobility
-     Inactivity
-     Poor nutrition
-     Smoking

However, there are other more important causes that contribute to this disease. They are-

- Constant pressure
Continuous immobility often causes pressure on the skin that further damages it and the underlying tissues. Tail bone, hip bone, ankles and heels are more prone to bed sores due to lack of movement. However similar damage is also detected in elbows, spine and ribs.

- Friction
The friction that is caused when the skin rubs against another surface or when two layers of skin rub against each other, those that were moving in two opposite directions also result in bed sores. Sudden sliding down the chair or being transferred from a bed to a stretcher are common reasons behind it.

- Excessive moisture
Bed sores are also caused by excessive moisture that softens the skin and also reduces its resistance. Profuse perspiration and unchecked urination are important causes.

If untreated immediately there are plenty of complications that arise from this disease. Few of them are-

- Infections
Skin sore causes multiple infections on the body like Cellulitis and Osteomyletis. Cellulitis results in painful, red swelling of the skin that often oozes out fluid. On the other hand in Osteomyletis, an infection is caused in the bone resulting in swelling over the affected area. Blood infection called Bacteremia is also caused due to skin sores.

- Septic arthritis
In this, there is severe pain and swelling of a joint making it hot, red and tender.

- Meningitis
Caused by the infection of the fluid around the brain and spine, this disease causes a severe headache with a stiff neck and nausea

- Squamous Skin cancer
This occurs if the skin sores remain unchecked for a long period of time. In this, the skin feels patchy and often bleeds.

Dear Lybrate user, it may take 2 weeks for all of the scabs to fall off. Chickenpox rarely leaves any permanent scars unless the sores become badly infected or your child repeatedly picks off the scabs. However, normal chickenpox can leave temporary marks on the skin that take 6 to 12 months to fade. But you need to remove scars you should use natural ways to remove scars' vitamin e rich foods in your diet or massaging the scars with vitamin e oil can work wonders in getting rid of scars. Drinking coconut water, you could also apply it directly on the affected areas to help speed the recovery process. Lemon juice also has bleaching properties that help scars fade. Lemon juice can be diluted with water or applied directly on the skin. Aloe vera can be used by applying the gel within its leaves directly on the skin and allowing it to dry. This can be repeated 3 to 4 times a day for best results. A paste of baking soda and water can be massaged onto the affected areas to remove dead skin cells and prevent scarring. Botox - Its Procedure, Uses And Side Effects!

Botox - Its Procedure, Uses And Side Effects!

Are you planning on undertaking a cosmetic procedure for rejuvenating your skin? Botox treatment is considered to be effective for this purpose. Botox is a drug made from a certain neurotoxin, and it is produced by a bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum. Botox is also used for medical purposes, especially for the treatment of muscle related conditions. It is primarily used for removing wrinkles via a procedure in which your facial muscles are temporarily relaxed.

Major Uses-
Except for reducing the appearance of your wrinkles and facial lines, which appear because of aging, Botox is used for the treatment of conditions which include leaky bladders, migraines, excessive sweating, and eye squints. Over 20 medical conditions utilize botox as a part of treatment.

How it works?
Botulinum toxin or botox is a poisonous substance. A single gram of botox can kill over one million people. But it acts as an ideal therapeutic protein when utilized in a proper, required dosage.

About botox procedure-
Botulinum toxin powder is diluted in saline to be administered. It is injected into a patient’s neuromuscular tissue and takes around 72 hours to show results. This time reflects the amount of time that is required for disruption of your body’s usual synaptosomal process. It takes around 5 days for the full effect of Botox treatment to show. Pregnant or lactating women and people who are allergic to it from a previous treatment should avoid any form of botox treatment.

Side effects and associated risks-
Although injections containing botox are well tolerated, there are several side effects involved. They are as follows:

  • A person having a genetic predisposition in which a mild, transient response to botox is received. Some patients taking type A botox injections are likely to develop antibodies to the toxins. This makes the treatment ineffective. Antibody development is also indicated in cases of patients taking a type B botox injection for treating cervical dystonia.
  • Along with the intended effects, botulinum toxin may cause some other side effects, which are quite undesirable. They may include headaches, malaise, mild cases of nausea, transient numbness, mild pain, local edema and erythema at the site where the injection is given.
  • Temporary fatigue, of your surrounding musculature, is also likely because of the toxin and its actions.
  • Temporary upper lid and brow ptosis or drooping is another side effect involved with botox.

The results obtained from treatment by type B botox is said to be more effective than botox A treatment. You may expect better results when your muscles remain contracted instead of being relaxed.
