Dear Lybrate user,
its good that your husband is responding to treatment. Side effects are inevitable part of any treatment. However we can find ways to reduce them by modifying the medicines and adding on counselling. Don't worry. Feel assured. Fix an appointment with a psychiatrist either in person or through tele consultation. You will get appropriate guidance.

Dear Shadab,
Nice to know that you are concerned about your father. High cholesterol levels cause ischemia that can cause slowness.
Another possibility is there, please check on it. Is he taking Risdone plus (containing both Risperidone and THP) or Risdone (only risperidone). If he took risdone without THP, he might have got little risperidone induced parkinson. It might have slowed him down. Probably in the native place, risdone plus was not available.

Dear Aishwarya,
Aggressiveness may be a part of your paranoid schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia needs to be treated with antipsychotics. There are many different types of antipsychotic available. One had to try few of them before deciding the proper drug and dose. May be soltus 200 did not work that well the doctor changed to risperidone (risdone plus)
Once your paranoid ideas come down, the aggressiveness will be controlled. Please continue treatment and consult the doctor repeatedly.

Consult the treating Psychiatrist before doing anything as not tablets retain their bioavailability after being crushed. The amount of medication available within the body may reduce if it is crushed and mixed with food items. Consult the treating Psychiatrist for alternative medication which is orodispersible or mixes with food.

Dear user you are too young to take these medicines. When we are aware about our problem we are able to control but we have to control it in a proper way. You are too young and taking these tablets, it’s not good for your physical as well as your mental health. If you don’t want to take medication for life time then please wake up yourself, medicines are not a perfect solution for mental health, you have to work on your own, your will power, your mind and thoughts. But due to certain reasons...more

I was struggling hard to be in normal state since I was feeling severe anxiety. After 1.4 year I consult a neuropsychiatric and he prescribed me flunil ip - 40 (fluoxetine) and risdone mt 0.5 (risperidone) and after that I feel a bit relief but not completely. Yes, you should go for cbt in tandem with the medication. You must go for counseling soon. Counseling will help in training you will skills and techniques to cope with the daily challenges in life and will give you a fair chance to manage your life. Yes, you are right. You need cbt therapy to manage your intrusive negative thoughts which are the cause of your anxiety. I have treated many clients with this approach.

Yes you can combine cbt with medications, the improvement will be much better. Try it, but go for proper cbt specialist, as many do not now what cbt is and claim they can do and start giving advices, which is not cbt.
