It is very good drug and has a very good safty profile as well as a good drug to be given with antidiabetic medicines. Then why you want to stop? If you want change of medicines you can consult your treating physician he will guide you.

It means the replace tablet is not effective for you.
Or there are some secondary causes of hypertension.

your mother shouldnot stop the medication wihout consulting her doctor.
Stopping a bp medicine suddenly is very dangerous for her-- it can cause paralysis, heart attack, kinney failure etc.
So unless a doctor tells her to stop it donot stop, dose can be reduced if the bp is low but a gradual reduction in dose under close monitoring is important.

You have anginal pain and need a cardiology check up and in case if there is a block which i s very common in this type of cases . If needed you have to do angioplasty
