Also, the body, internally and externally, is made in a fashion that hosts (allows) microganisms to exist in a symbiotic relationship. They actually can be helpful to us. Probiotics for example. Xylometazoline acts on adrenergic receptors of nasal mucosa to relieve the congestion by constricting the inflamed or swollen nasal blood vessels.
If you are a patient of high blood pressure or suffering from any cardiac ailment please avoid the drug.
Otherwise you may feel free to use it. Better not take overdose.

Dear Lybrateuser,
-Do steam inhalation twice a day
- you can use xylometazoline drop but only for 3-4 days, prolonged use cause weakening of nasal mucosa & hence chronic infection
- consult an entire specialist for proper management.

Depends I the concentration of the xylometazoline and how many times have given it. If given once or twice no harm. If given repeatedly can cause problems.

Dear Lybrate user, xylometazoline and oxymetazoline are almost same. Both are used to dilate the blood vessels in the nose to remove the nasal block as occurs in cold and allergy. However, the oxymetazoline is used in children who cannot use the xylometazoline.

No. You need to meet an ENT Specialist immediately as it is probably a nasal or sinus infection causing crusting that is blocking your nostrils. Otrinoz will only worsen your discomfort.
