Expectorants are of two types:
mucolytics: which thin out tenacious mucoid secretions in the airways
mucokinetics or âexpectorantsâ: they help the clearance of mucus by making coughing easier
both should not be prescribed in dry cough as they are known to aggravate cough.
However, wet cough is due to the secretions in the airways and should never be suppressed. Mucokinetics are used in this case which makes coughing easier.

1. Do warm saline gurgling 3-4 times daily
2. Take honitus syrup 2tsf thrice daily
3. You may have to take antibiotic along with it if no relief

First get PFT test done to confirm brochial spasm.If spasm confirmed and then get post bronchodialator PFT . If reversiblity confirmed then take some inhaled medicine as adv. by resp. specialist. All expectorant are equalent to plenty of fluid intake.
