You have been taking many anti-psychotics in reasonably high doses. Adjusting these drug doses needs very careful monitoring and regular thorough assessment. It should not be attempted without physical consultation.

As schizophrenia is a complex mental disorder. Reducing or tappering of dosages may result in relapse. So tappering and dosage adjustment must be done under a guidance of psychiatrist only.

Hello good morning Sir/Mam! I am suffering from Schizophrenia and currently on Clozapine. And now the problem is that I can't do any work properly or normally or can say with my ease as that I used to do before taking Clozapine. And it's been two days since I am taking clozapine and still some symptoms present. Hoping to get these symptoms be cured in next few days. But can't do my work properly as that I did without med. So, I want to know that is this the side effect of the drug, if it is then how get rid of, and how can I live and do my work properly along with medication. I can't feel anything natural viz nature (i can not enjoy natural beauties, weather, or whatever related to it), sex, any person, any moment, etc. I finally wanna know that is all these the effects of medication and if so then how to get rid of these or should I stop. I will be thankful for reply.

You will have side-effects and when they occur, you must report them to your doctor to see if they are excessive and need to be addressed with other medication is the the dose needs adjustments. The optimum dose for each individual varies and to discover that it may take a few weeks too, initially. After a few adjustments, your true dose will become finalized and you can expect a reduction in side-effects. Ideally, you must combine your medication with counselling.

Mr. lybrate-user, I would like to tell one thing, schizophrenia is chronic illness. Basically it requires anti psychotic drugs for treatment. There are numbers of anti psychotic drugs availabale in market for treatment of Schizophrenia. Some drugs are FDA approved, some are superior in one trial but not in other trial. Some are popular in few countries but not FDA approved. Actually selection of proper antipsychotic depends on number of conditions viz. Age, sex, duration of illness, associated c...more

What is her age, in old age it is a common symptom so don't worry about it, if anything serious you can consult your physician.

My mother is being treated for mental illness in chennai. She has been on treatment for ocd for the past 5 years. Past few months she had suffering from manic depressive psychosis. Last week we have consulted another doctor as she wasn't recovering well. Present doctor has not yet diagnosed her illness. She is currently on following medications: loxapax 25 mg (night) loxapax10 mg (morning) oleanz 5 mg (night) tho 2 mg (morning) vincomo (morning) clozapine 50 mg (night) she has been given clozapine yesterday during our consultation. She has been so restless through out the day and behaved differently last night. She had suicidal thoughts before clozapine was prescribed to her. Even though she had suicidal thoughts before ,she was active and was doing her works properly. But now my mother says she will die by not eating food, she says she has become mad and her life has been destroyed. Her thoughts have become so random. She didn't behave this way before and after our last consultation 2 days back, she has started to behave this way. She says she would not go to work and give voluntary retirement. We are not sure why she has started to behave this way from yesterday. Why did the doctor prescribe clozapine? Is it having any bad effect on her behaviour? Is she having schizophrenia? Kindly advice why is it happening this way to my mother.

Dear Nagaprasad,
It is nice of you to know about your mother's behaviour and diagnosis. Whenever you change the doctor, it is better to take the summary of treatment from the previous doctor. The recent doctor has not yet diagnosed her. It takes time and observation to diagnose mental disorders. OCD symptoms may occur in both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Let us wait for the doctor to diagnose your mother's condition. Or request your previous doctor to talk to new doctor so that the di...more
