My grand child aged 2 years, was having slight suffocation in breathing after recovered from viral fever. For the control of fever he was given amoxicillin +Clavulanic acid dry syrup. Slight suffocation at times (kurukal in malayalam language )observed after the recovery of fever which persisted for about a month. Then again consulted with the same Doctor and prescribed, levocetirizine Hydrochloride syrup, Ambroxol Hydrochloride and salbutamol Syrup, Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate solution (5 mg/5 ml 2 times, Montelukast 4 mg tablet etc. I would like to know whether Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate solution (5 mg/5 ml 2 times) is required for this slight difficulty (kurukal) in breathing. I would also like to know, whether this steroid drug will affect the growth of the child or precipitate any hidden diabetic issue. Kindly answer to doubt.

1. Do saline gargles daily.
2. Whenever possible do steam inhalation also.
3. Cover your nose and mouth with hanky for at least 30 sec when you go in dusty areas also when you go in and out of ac. As our nose is the most sensitive part of our body, when there is temperature difference between two rooms or inside n outside, then if we not protect our nose, it gets affected.

Dear lybrate-user, relax.you are unnecessarily giving diagnosis instead of giving a proper history. Please get a proper sino-nasal examination done. Furthermore monteleukast alone will not solve your problem nor will taking only salbutamol. At your age tonsil is out of the question as it affects only children. You may feel free to consult me or any other ent specialist .

Coffy syrup contains bromhexine, guaiphenesin, menthol and terbutaline sulphate as active ingredients and is good for pregnant ladies. You trust your doctor and not google for treatment.

Hello lybrate-user!
salbair and asthalin have similar action and both are used as needed in bronchial asthma.

Levosalbutamol is a isomer of salbutamol with comparatively lesser side effect potential.
Recent international guidelines don't support the preferred use of either salbutamol or levosalbutamol for asthma.
Ideally a inhaled corticosteroid with a long acting bronchodilator combination should be used as...more
