Fluanxol (Flupentixol): This is an antipsychotic medication often used for schizophrenia or other similar conditions. It can also be used in lower doses for depression.

Spenzo (Etizolam): This is a medication that is used for anxiety. It belongs to a class of drugs similar to benzodiazepines and has sedative and mu...more

First, we need to be sure of diagnosis before commenting on medications. But, at the outset. Does'nt make sense giving antipsychotics and antidepressants considering the doses in which they have been prescribed.

Do not stop your medications without the guidance of your psychiatrist it would result in withdrawal symptoms and maybe even relapse. Consult your doctor before meddling with your drugs. Tc.

I am 33 years old. I am in depression since 4 years. I consulted a psychiatrist nearby and recommended tablets like venlift lonazep and nexito. Still I am continuing this tablet. Even then I am not able to get out of depression. I had ect treatments 4 times too. This is not my my first episode in depression. While I was studying in 9th I got this feel first time, but I didn't know the way to express my difficulties to my parents. They also never able to understand my illness. It last for nearly 15 to 20 days. And then I got into normal without treatment. Next this depression we episodes continued to be repeated in my life. 2nd episode while doing 11th std and it last for 1 month and left untreated, 3rd and 4th episodes while I was doing 2nd year and 4 th year irrespectively. These last for 3 months and 6 months respectively and back to normal. And again 4th episode while I am doing pg in 2011 and it last for nearly an year and back to normal again. But every time I am in depression it was severe, sleepless nights, over thinking, suicidal thoughts etc etc o suffered a lot and left untreated and the current episode started in the year 2015 with same symptoms when my son was one year old. I told to my wife, initially she also not able to understand, then we both went to psychiatrist. They prescribed medicines. Monthly once I used to visit my doctor. With same consulting doctor I am taking medicines for 4 years. Even then I am not able to come out of depression completely. Some symptoms of depressions r still there but not severe, recently in one medical check up, the report told that I have less semen count so they told this is the reason we are struggling to get the second baby. And they prescribed some tablets for one month related to that. After two my wife got conceived and we confirmed it and sad news is that when we went for periodic checkup at the stage of two months pregnancy in the scan the report impression was missed abortion. Shall I stop taking tablets of depression because I studied that these tablets causes sexual dysfunction side effects. What to do. Please give me suggestions how to come out of this long term depression and to lead a peaceful life. Pls. I am waiting for your valuable rey and keep my questions and your suggestions more confident please. Pls reply your suggestions to my mail email

If you have been on antidepressants for 4 years continuously and for the previous times you have had four different episodes it seems like you have depression with dysthymia. We call it double depression and it needs treatment on a long term basis. You also mention that you have had ect. However you do not mention how many treatments you received and what was their outcome. If you want to go off of antidepressants you might need to gradually taper them off, while being on a different kind of the...more

Hi lybrate-user, you have to take it without any breaks in between, slowly and gradually doctor will taper it. Have patient just like for bp diabetes people take medicine for lifelong same way, depression medicine is for longer duration but if depression is not that severe at some point it will be discontinued. Psychotherapy will help you a lot along with medication.

Yes he can take but only 1 tablet a day or half tea spoon if it is in powder form.
Find the cause of depression and help him overcome depression by keeping him happy, motivate him to share negative thoughts and feelings with you or with other family member.
So that he would feel relax and daily yoga and meditation is mandatory.

Yes. You can take both at night. I believe the doctor is a psychiatrist as this combination needs to be carefully used by that specialist. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user,
adding another antidepressant is warranted in certain cases. There are guidelines for its addition. One can not load himself with antidepressants however chronic it is. Please consult your psychiatrist about it. Since he is following you up for many years, he may add venlafaxine or a mood stabiliser ot therapy for psychosocial issues keeping the depression for a long time. It depends on the diagnosis.
