It is best to avoid alcohol when taking vilazodone as apart from causing drowsiness, it must be noted that alcohol is a depressant by nature. This means alcohol negates the effects of the SSRI and would not help the process of treatment. For this reason doctors advise not to consume alcohol when taking SSRI.
Think about why you would want to take alcohol occasionally. Is it for social reasons or because of habitual reasons, etc.
