I really need some advice or more better if help. Symptoms - fat deposition on my chest, waist, hips. Nipples look swollen up when body temp. Is hot and shrinks to normal when come in touch to cold things or in cold environment. It is happening from the time I ran into puberty but fat deposition started 2 years ago. But now its embarrassing. I use to have medical history of seizure disorder and its medication course was completed a year ago. Some thing I did't added previously. Doctors gave me sodium valporate 600 mg everyday. But due to overdose I got acute pancreatitis then they switch me to sodium dilantin 300 mg/day at night. This case is 6 year old. At that time it started. I consulted the doctor he said it will go away with time but it did not instead it increased but slowly. G - male Age - 20.

Fat deposition in breasts in men is a reported side effect, though rare, with some medications, which include phenytoin sodium. Weight gain in general is seen as a side effect with sodium valproate too. Anticonvulsants like phenytoin may at times cause alterations in male hormone levels too, that is the most probable explaination for your symptoms. Consult your treating physician and a endocrinologist if possible to get a thorough evaluation.
The commonest explaination could be also as simpl...more

Dear lybrate-user,
when did you consult your psychiatrist and physician last? You need to consult frequently to adjust the dose. What is your serum lithium and valproate level recently. How much stablon and rivotril you are taking?
In addition, I need to know your hba1c and renal functions also.
All your symptoms indicate that you have not come up from your depressive phase yet. There may be many reasons for it. Get back with these check ups.

First on the seizure part the drugs may not be adequate. That can be adjusted with drugs. The type of seizure also to be known usually women may not be put on sodium valproate unless it is juvenile myoclonic epilepsy .some of the drugs can be modified. Tryptomer can be stopped instead clonazepam can be added .that can improve seizure control and sleep promotion .anzit will produce drug dependence instead you can aak your doctor to go for some other drugs. Seizure drugs need to take sometime life...more

Hi, I'm a acute transient psychosis patient diagnosed at the age of 14. Initially my dosage was very high now im 25 years old consuming 500 mg Divalporate and 50 mg Quitapin plain. Im good when I do not have any relapses and very effective. I completed B. Tech Mechanical with 60 % and got placed in a company as well. Right now im doing software courses. I have few questions: 1 .When I will get rid of my medicine? 2. With these dosage if I can act like a average person so I wonder if im not consuming these medicines I will be more effective with work as well as studies but my relapse will happen in a year or sometime after 2 years. So, is there any alternative for these medicines? 3. I visited many doctors, some say you are suffering from psychosis disorder, some say bipolar or schizophrenia, some say sleeping problems. Why this many doubts in my case. So, what exactly im suffering from? Though I consumed many dosages initially but when I was reviewed with a doctor (Psychiatrist) He advised me the doctors are giving high dosage it can be reduced to minimum. Since then im in contact with that doctor and that is how my dosage is reduced but I want to know whether it can reduced or is there any need of these medicines. I suffer from relapses in a year, sometime 2 years. I will appreciate if any psychiatrist clears my doubts. Thank you.

Dear lybrate-user,
Whether you have transient psychosis or bipolar or schizophrenia or sleeping problem, it is for the psychiatrist to diagnose and treat you properly. With this dose you are without relapse and acting like average person. Why do you want to lose those effects of drugs.
Bipolar disorder is a relapsing disorder - sometimes with high overconfident mood sometimes with low self esteem sad mood. Both will be kept under control with valproate and quetiapine.

Epilim (sodium valproate) is an antiepileptic medication that is used to treat epilepsy and other neurological disorders. While it is generally well-tolerated, it can have some side effects, including hormonal imbalances.
Studies have shown that sodium valproate can reduce testosterone levels in men, which may lead to symptoms such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and decreased muscle mass. However, the extent of the effect on testosterone levels varies from person to person and ma...more
