Does isotretinoin cause seizures in an epileptic patient? My brother who is 25 years old was on medication for epilepsy from the last 20 years, he was having grade 3 acne so I consulted a dermatologist who advised isotretinoin tablets for him, but 1 week later he got seizures. So is it because of isotretinoin? We had stopped giving him tablets for epilepsy (sodium valproate) as per doctor advise from last 4 months. So my query is why did he got seizures? Was it because of isotretinoin?

It is unlikely. The common triggers for seizures are dehydration, infection, certain tablets, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress. A lot of times the cause is not clear. Some patients can have non epileptic seizure (looks like seizure but not a true epileptic seizure.

Had Pyogenic Meningitis in April-May 17, caused MVR. Was stable with LEVIPIL 500 1-1-1 & EPTOIN 100 1-1-1 After Antibiotics treatment from 28-4-17 to 26-5-17. Had CABG + MVREPAIR DONE perfectly ON 28-11-17. Again she had Cerebral Seizure on 4-12-17, resulting in on Ventilator for 15 days, ICU For 22 days, feeding RT, Causing Acute Myopathy & BRACHIAL PLEXUS Neuropathy. On discharge on 29-12-17, ANTI Epileptic Levipil 1G 1-0-1 for 5 days only. VALPROATE Chrono 500 1-0-1 for 10 days then to continue VALPROATE 300 1-0-1. Again She had SPO2 Problem and somewhat dowsyness. EEG No Seizure activity. Prescribed to continue Levipil 1Gm 1-0-1 Tab Encorate 300-0-500. Sir we are perplexed One Neuro says Levipil 1G 1-0-1 for 5 days other Neuro says to continue 1-0-1. Sir, Please elaborate.

We should continue levipil and eptoin medication for a minimum of one year and dosage should be decided by the neurologist.

My rage attacks and depression can only be helped significantly by aripiprazole 20 mg tab with valproate 1g. No other antipsychotic is helping. But aripiprazole is increasing impulse dyscontrol problems and behaviour of hypersexual nature. We r cautious to take antidepressants for fear of rage attacks to counter the issue. Is there other medicine I can take with aripiprazole to stop impulse dyscontrol? It is extremely disturbing and it is from aripiprazole as stopping it leads to immediate reversal of this side effect. Other drugs are not helping my neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Aripiprazole is known to cause impulse control disorder and hypersexuality problems in some rare patients. My suggestion is to meet with a psychiatrist and switch to another antipsychotic medication. Thee are many alternative anti-psychotic medications available and one of them can certainly help you without any severe adverse effects.

If pathologic hypersexuality occurs on aripiprazole or cariprazine, and isn't mitigated by ssris, and changing drug is absolutely not an option, nor another antipsychotic an option even as adjunct, what can be given to help it? Cannot change drug as only one with awakener response. Diag negative schizophrenia. Taking cariprazine 3 mg, valproate cr 1g, fluoxetine 40. Hypersexuality comes like waves and floods in chest similar to adrenergic overactivity resulting in uncontrollable impulses and compulsive behaviour. Doctor is at a loss how to help. Please suggest in writing, not over phone, if anything can help.

Can try hiking up ssris, fluoxetine upto 80 mg and if these are episodic behaviors, then .maintenance ect can be tried. But with caution. But ect I would not have recommended if another antipsychotic was open as an option. Consult a psychiatrist for nearby for discussing best options. This decision is better taken after detailed assessment of impulsive behavior and trying out some behavioral methods would be possible only if patient is available for assessment.

My nephew used stuff and underwent psychiatric problems. He took treatment and is recovering. Now he is going for a job. He complains that he had nausea, body pain, feeling sleepy. He couldn't remember what he learns. But in the company, there is need to learn. He is desperate about his future. I send the tablets that he takes regularly. i am dealing with mental illness from last 8 years and tried treatments from all top notch psychiatrist's of the city .ate kilo's of medicines which are some serious, snri's, tricyclic ,tetracyclines, maoi's, clonazepam, alprazolam, etizolam,lamotrigine, sodium valproate, lithium, quetiapine, aripiprazole, olanzapine etc. But these all medicines and psychiatrist's failed to bring my mental well being back. I am dealing with anhedonia, apathy ,disordered thinking, inability to do goal directed activities ,bed ridden ,i don't brush my teeth, I don't bath ,i am doing nothing in my life ,i have no career and super hopeless about my future ,dull facial expression, highly demotivated, suicidal (i have attempted twice ,one with carbon monoxide poisoning and second with 50 mg clonazepam+200 mg zolpidem+750 ml alcohol bottle+20 cigarettes, my purpose was to die from respiratory depression, but I failed ).now to whichever doctor I will go ,i will ask him will you give me ect ,ketamine therapy ,rtms or not.

congratulations for continuing your interest in making your life better. Ect is an option - not tried so far. But it is not a one time treatment. It has to be given under anesthesia, may be 6-12 times. Only few psychiatrists will have ect facility. Ketamine and rtms - very very few psychiatrist will have it. Case history. I have been suffering from seizure since I was one year. It first started as febrile seizure and I had been on sodium valproate. I remained seizure free for 3-4 years span when on medication. But after withdrawal of med again I had seizure attack and again started med. This episode continued till 18 years of age. But I discontinued med abruptly and suffered attack then again started med valparin chrono 300 mg twice daily. And further discontinued it. After remain seizure free without medication for 2 years I suffered attack on 16.2.18. Doctor at bangalore prescribed levipil and valparin. I took it for few days and give up med. Then after 2 and 4 months I again suffered attack on 15th of June 2018. I started valparin chrono 300 mg 2 tab at night but few doses again skipped. And I suffered attack on 15th July 2018. The attack was for a brief period 3-4 minutes and I had fever also with tonsillitis. Heavy headache and nausea after attack. And I went to deep sleep. I took levipil and valparin on 15th night.

28f done serum prolactin itâs 89.53 by cmia method. Symptoms -upper back middle back pain since oct 2020 (left shoulder blade (much when wake up and stretch and when doing work or sitting long and less when lying on bed) left hand left breast pain and discomfort since 1 year left head numbness and left eye twitching since 3 months on and off feverish symptoms but temp normal since aug 2020 milky discharge from both breasts since a week medications- risperidone 1 mg used for 12 days sodium valproate 200 mg twice using since 12 days clonazepam half using since 12 days escitalopram using since 12 days milky discharge we noticed it on 7th day after using these medications before using medications there was no discharge after medications we donât know when exactly it started but on 7th day we noticed it. It looks like some hormonal disturbance and definitely there is some inflammation of the joints that's why the esr levels are high. You need to consume lot of water and also you can do gentle physiotherapy for you to improve with the joint pain and stiffness which definitely helps you to have good healthy life.
