There may be many gels and lotions in the market that promise you the best and most shiny hair, but you know better because all of us have been there. The moment you stop using the gels, your hair turn into a larger version of a swallow's nest and you are left with the eternally perplexing question, what should you do to your hair to maintain their health? Well, we thought we could help you with these hacks.

  • Comb wet hair with a lot of care and as much time as they require. The reason for this is that wet hair are very fragile and are prone to damage. They can break pretty easily. So experts suggest you comb them from their roots with a comb that has widely spaced teeth.

  • Every 6 to 8 weeks, trim the outermost edges of your hair. This will help you avoid split-ends and also keep your hair in fairly good shape. Also trimming may help you cut out the grey hair that is likely to show itself distinctly if not taken care of.

  • If you use conditioners for your hair, make sure that you wash it off using cold water. Cold water helps your hair avoid shocks that can otherwise be felt because of the hot water. Thus it is safe to say that cold water helps your hair maintain its strength in such conditions.

  • Sulphate shampoos have made their way in the markets recently and their popularity has surged to quite an extent. Sulphates clean your scalp of all the dirt, but at the same time they also wash off all the essential oils in your hair, so experts suggest that sulphate free shampoos should be used as much as possible.

  • If you have dry hair, it is suggested that you avoid colouring your hair. The reason for this is the fact that dry hair are likely to get damaged to a great extent if you dye them.

Finally, do not do anything that would impart heat to your hair, like straightening or ironing them. Heat damages your hair in the worst manner. Exercising in the morning has a number of benefits. Besides losing weight and toning your body, you will feel fresher, healthier and more productive throughout the day. Start with a few stretches that open up your body. This will also help avoid body pains throughout the day. Morning exercise has also been proven to reduce blood pressure. In addition, it also helps boost brainpower. Begin your Republic Day with some exercises and feel fresher throughout the day.

The Child’s Pose Stretch - Start your day with this stretch. You will need to sit on a carpet or a yoga mat and stretch your hands out. Feel your spine growing longer as you inhale and exhale. Do this for a few minutes. This stretch works your hamstrings, piriformis, other rotators and spinal extensors. It will help you if you often get pain in the back or neck.

Jumping Jacks - A high-intensity exercise in the morning can help you feel much fresher throughout the day. Stand with your feet together and jump while moving your hands upwards as well. This will help tone many muscles in your body.

Leg Squats - Stand with your feet facing outwards and squat. This exercise tones your quadriceps, hamstrings and calves. It is also good for your hips and waist. You can start with 2 reps of 15-20 and go on increasing it day after day.

Bicycle crunches - Cycling and doing crunches at the same time target the stomach muscles. This is a great exercise if you are working to lose a few inches on the stomach. Aim to do 15-20 bicycle crunches.

Start small and keep increasing daily. Once you start working out in the morning, you will feel so good, you will not want to stop. Take this national holiday to work on your body and make a new pledge to yourself.

Eating Disorders - How To Get Rid Of Them?

While eating is one of the most important methods to survive, as it the fuel for the body, there are people who have issues related to eating. While some tend to avoid food, others tend to overeat and some tend to binge on certain types of foods. The two extremes of avoiding food and overeating, known as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa respectively are the most common types of eating disorders. In both cases, it is not just about food.

In each of the individual with an eating disorder, there is always an underlying psychological problem, depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. As the eating disorder is just one of the manifestations, the underlying problem needs to be addressed for the eating disorder to completely disappear. Else, there are chances that it may resurface again in a while. Treating an eating disorder requires various approaches in addition to just managing the eating pattern. Read on to know the most common five methods.

  1. Nutritional counselling: In people with eating disorders, the person begins to believe that he/she is eating a healthy diet. The counsellor tries to break this belief and instil healthy eating habits. This helps in complete recovery and is essential for the long-term success of treating the disorder. In some severe cases, even the family members may be involved in this counselling.
  2. Psychotherapy: This again helps the affected individual understand the reason behind the altered eating patterns. Exploring the causes and understanding the disorder helps prevent relapse after initial treatment. Additionally, strained relationships, anxiety, depression, and stress management are also addressed through psychotherapy. Success of treating an eating disorder often lies in managing the coexisting mental conditions.
  3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This is one of the main modalities of treating an eating disorder and it is a very structured program. It might sometimes involve the close family members also and addresses unhealthy thought patterns that lead to the disorder. The person becomes aware of why he/she is eating abnormally and tries to make a conscious change to it.
  4. Co-Medical conditions: In patients with anorexia, the consciously reduced food intake can have severe effects on the other body organs including anaemia, low blood pressure, fatigue, vital organ failure, and overall low energy levels. A thorough evaluation and treatment to manage these conditions are essential before putting the person on a course correction of the eating disorder.
  5. Medications: Medications are essential to not treat the eating disorder per se, but to manage the other conditions. Whether it is medical conditions like anaemia and low blood pressure or psychological conditions like anxiety or depression, medications are used to manage these.

In more severe cases, the person may be required to undergo a residential program to overcome abnormal eating tendencies.

Hi lybrate-user, yes you can take dexorange capsules atleast after 4 hrs of taking thyroid tablet. Also make sure you take thyroid medication on empty stomach first thing in the morning and wait for atleast half n hr to 45 min. Before starting tea, coffee or milk.

Tab novelon is an oral contraceptive pill not an emergency contraceptive pill, it has to be taken from 1st day of period for 21 days continuously. If your periods have not yet started then do your urine pregnancy test.

Dear Lybrateuser, -there is no special method to detox the body & to clean lungs - as you have quit smoking the damage caused by it starts reversing & the tissues & organ start becoming healthy over a period of time - following a healthy lifestyle is the key to detox & clean the lungs & other organs, follow some measures: - consume a well balanced diet with more of fruits, vegetables including green leafy ones, whole grains instead of refined ones, protein rich foods & healthy fats, avoid junk & fat containing foods as well as restrict salt & sugar in your diet - include a protein rich food in each of your meals & also as a snack inbetween meals to provide you with continuous energy throughout the day - have plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water per day for proper hydration and to wash of the toxins from the body - do regular exercise like walking or jogging or cycling in fresh air so that proper blood circulation is there throughout the body which is the most important to detox the body - sleep well for at least 7-8 hrs at night as the body tissues repair themselves during that time - a healthy lifestyle & habits will keep your body fit & healthy. -

The monsoons cool the air down and perfume the air but also provide the ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. A mosquito bite is universally abhorred. A sting that turns into dengue is even more disliked. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that causes high fever, rashes and pain in joints and muscles. Since there is no vaccine that can completely eradicate dengue, it becomes important to take preventive measures to reduce mosquitoes and keep the disease at bay.

Here are a few tips that can reduce your risk of being bitten by mosquitoes: 

  1. Do not allow water to accumulate: Mosquitoes breed in standing water. To prevent this do not allow rainwater to collect in pots or stagnate in your garden. Ensure that your water tanks are kept covered always. Keep buckets turned over when not in use. Coolers are generally ineffective in the monsoons so empty them out and keep the trays dry. It is also a good idea to empty and dry swimming pools and ornamental fountains during the monsoons.
  2. Use mosquito repellant: Dengue mosquitoes typically bite a person during the day. Hence, make it a habit to put on a mosquito repellant along with your sunscreen every time you step out. Mosquito repellants should be used on all the exposed areas of your skin including your ears. Using a mosquito net around your bed at night is the best way to ensure safety against mosquitoes. You could also attach mosquito repellant patches on your infant's clothes.
  3. Do not allow mosquitoes indoors: Install mesh shutters on your doors and windows. This will allow air in but will keep mosquitoes out. Take a close look at your doors and windows for holes through which mosquitoes could come in. Also, look at their joints and edges to ensure that there are no gaps. Burning camphor and lavender or tea tree aromatics can also help keep mosquitoes away.
  4. Grow mosquito repellant plants: Citronella and tulsi are two plants that are well known for their mosquito repelling properties. Grow these plants near your window and the entrance of your house to naturally repel mosquitoes.
  5. Avoid outdoor activities at dawn and dusk: Sunrise and sunset are when mosquitoes are most active. Hence avoid being outdoors at this time. If you must be out, wear protective clothes that minimize the amount of skin exposed. Wearing light colors instead of dark colors can also help as mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors.

I have not eaten meat since twenty years but now I have started to take it again. But I am facing problem of swollen gums after taking chicken. Why is it so? Bleeding is also there. If I stop to take it then gums become normal again.

Its because your getting meat fibers stuck in between teeth spaces which come with age use inter dental brush to clean in between after having meat get scaling polishing done by a dentist than brush twice daily especially at night massage gums.

Hi, Since you are a diabetic go for conservative therapy rather than supplementation. Weight is a sum total of Bone, Water, Muscle and fat. You need to gain muscle to get healthy .Have a well balanced diet. Eat 6-8 meals a day. Have carbohydrate and protein rich food combinations like milkshake, Mix nuts and dryfruits, Soya or paneer veg rolls etc. Include high biological value proteins which are very well absorbed like- Milk,curd,Paneer, Meat,Fish,Eggs etc. Include essential fats like Almonds,walnuts,flaxseeds etc. Eat on waking up and do have a bed time meal like milk and light snack. Do not fast or overeat as this will not help.
