Oil Pulling - Know Utility Of It!

Oil Pulling - Know Utility Of It!

Oil pulling includes gargling oil around the mouth like a mouthwash. During oil pull you put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and then rinse it around for 15 to 20 minutes. The advantage of doing this is, it decreases the measure of unsafe bacteria in the mouth. The microscopic organisms in the mouth create a biofilm on the teeth a thin layer that they use to stick to the surface. This is what we call ‘plaque’.

Having some plaque on your teeth is only normal. Yet, when it gets out of hand, it can bring about a wide range of issues, including bad breath, yellow teeth, gum aggravation, gingivitis and cavities. The way oil pulling works is basic. When you are gargling oil around your mouth, the bacteria get stuck in it and break down in the fluid oil.

Here is a step-by-step instruction for the procedure:

  1. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of oil in your mouth - Natural sesame oil is generally used in oil pulling. It is also okay to go with natural coconut oil.
  2. Rinse for around 20 minutes - The oil will get thicker and smooth as it blends with the saliva during this time and it should be velvety white while releasing. It will be two-fold in volume during this time because of the salivation. It can be difficult to gargle for the full 20 minutes, but it is very effective.
  3. Spit the oil into a dustbin in case you have a septic framework - Do not spit into the sink. The oil may thicken and clog the pipes. Try not to swallow the oil as it is ideally full of bacteria, poisons and discharge that are currently not in the mouth.
  4. Wash well with warm water - Warm water will clean the mouth better. Rinse a couple of times with warm water to get any residual oil out of the mouth. A few sources prescribe washing with warm saltwater.
  5. Brush well - Try to brush with a brushing blend to ensure any bacteria that still remains, is killed.

Some of the most common benefits of oil pulling are as follows:

  1. Can reduce harmful bacteria in the mouth: Streptococcus mutans is one of the principal bacteria in the mouth and a key player in plaque development and tooth decay.
  2. Can reduce plaque and gingivitis: Gingivitis is caused by the aggravation of the gums and happens when the immune system begins attacking the microbes in the plaque.
  3. Can reduce bad breath: Bad breath, also called halitosis, is caused by the scent of chemicals and gasses delivered by the bacteria in the mouth.

Oil pulling can be really effective and can combat many oral problems even before they develop.

Protecting Your Vision From Diabetes!

Protecting Your Vision From Diabetes!

Diabetes is a condition characterized by an elevated level of blood glucose due to the insufficient production of the Insulin by the Beta cells of the pancreas. The high blood glucose level can also be an outcome of the inability of the body cells to utilize or respond to the insulin produced - a condition termed as Insulin Resistance.

Today, Diabetes has become a raging problem affecting almost every second individual, irrespective of their age, sex or ethnicity. What is even worse is the fact that the metabolic disorder affects the vital body organs including the eyes. In many diabetic patients (diabetes left unmanaged and uncontrolled for long), the high blood sugar or Hyperglycemia can give rise to many eye complications such as:

  • Diabetic Retinopathy (Hyperglycemia that triggers progressive damage of the blood vessels of the retina that can eventually even lead to blindness).
  • Incidences of Cataract (a condition that causes clouding of the clear eye lenses affecting one's vision) and Glaucoma (a severe eye problem that results from the damages to the optic nerve of the eye) are on a rise in diabetic patients.

Thus, it becomes essential to carry out the preventive measure to deal with diabetes-related eye problems and associated complications.

Protecting the eyes from Diabetes -

  • Keep a check on other medical disorders: Conditions such as Hypercholesterolemia (elevated levels of blood cholesterol), high blood pressure along with diabetes, are the worst nemesis that can result in a myriad of eye disorders. Make sure the blood pressure is within the control (to avoid complications, try to maintain blood pressure below 140/80) and so is the level of bad cholesterol or LDL (Low-density lipoprotein).
  • Keep your body moving: Exercises and physical activities (morning or evening walks, jogging) can play a vital role in keeping diabetes under control, thereby shielding the eyes from problems such as cataract and glaucoma. Keeping the bodyweight within the healthy and recommended range can also work towards managing the blood glucose level.
  • Healthy dietary modifications: Diabetic patients should be careful with their choice of foods. Dark chocolates, lean meat, whole grains, fish, cinnamon, turmeric, fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, blueberries, spinach, walnuts, sweet potatoes, asparagus, apricots and apples to name a few are healthy options for a diabetic patient.
  • Smoking can spell doom for the eyes and is best avoided.

Skin Itching - How To Subdue It?

Skin Itching - How To Subdue It?

Skin irritants are everywhere. Even in your house, there is practically no place where there are no skin irritants. Laundry detergents, air fresheners and floor polishes are just a few factors that cause skin itching. The reason why this happens is because products like air fresheners and floor polishes take away essential oils and water from the skin which leads to dryness and irritation. This type of dry, itchy skin can also progress to skin conditions like eczema.

Here are some ways you can stop your skin from becoming dry and itchy:

1. Wear gloves
The ideal thing to do would be to wear soft, thin cotton gloves and only wear rubber gloves on top of that. Do not touch a bucket or sponge without it. Even if you cannot wear soft, thin cotton gloves underneath, at least wear the rubber gloves as this protects your hands from irritants.

2. Rinse after swimming
Chlorine is one of the principal causes of itchiness in your skin. It is absolutely essential that once you have finished swimming you rinse your body with water and a little soap. Even more importantly, use a moisturizer with glycerin in it, as this will keep the moisture trapped inside. Glycerin is particularly good at holding on to moisture.

3. Petroleum jelly
Petroleum jelly has been proven to reduce the chances of dry, itchy skin because it contains only one ingredient. This one-ingredient formula is especially great when it is applied to sensitive skin. The reason why one ingredient is better than a moisturizer with many chemicals is that a one ingredient formula is gentler and therefore creates a protective barrier against irritants.

4. Oatmeal baths
For this kind of treatment, grind oatmeal in a blender and then sprinkle it in your bath water. Oatmeal has an anti-inflammatory substance known as avenanthramides which decreases itching and redness of the skin.

5. Cleanliness
This is perhaps the most important tip which can be given. If you do not regularly clean your floors or wash your bed sheets in hot water than you are at high risk of getting mites and these are one of the most common irritants of your skin.

Diabetes & Heart Health - How Can Former Affect Latter?

Diabetes & Heart Health - How Can Former Affect Latter?

Suffering from diabetes does not only mean that you need to be careful about what you eat. Diabetes is a condition that involves lots of risks. You may have to revamp the lifestyle, apart from diet restrictions. Regular exercises, stress-free attitude, and quitting smoking and drinking are mandatory. Your complete system can be affected by diabetes, and most importantly, your heart can be at risk. Yes, your chances of getting affected by heart diseases are higher when you are a diabetic. But, this does not mean you will suffer from cardiovascular diseases for sure. You have ways to keep your heart healthy. You need to keep the blood sugar levels, blood pressure levels, and the cholesterol levels under control for a healthy heart.

What is the link?

Blood vessels and the nerves in the body are affected when you are diabetic. There are blood vessels and nerves that control the heart, and they too are damaged. Obviously, you end up with cardiovascular diseases in such cases. Even in young adults who are diabetic, the risk of developing heart diseases is higher. People with diabetes have 2 times the risk of developing heart diseases, compared with people who are not diabetic. However, you can always rely on certain methods to keep the risks down. For this, getting to know the factors that can add to the risk level is essential.

Factors that can double the risk: Smoking narrows the blood vessels and can increase the risk of heart diseases. If you smoke and if you are diabetic, you increase the risks at an alarming rate. It can also lead to amputation, as smoking can affect the blood vessels in the legs. If you are diabetic and do not keep the blood pressure levels under control, your heart works a lot to pump the blood. A heart attack can be on the cards when the heart muscles are overworked or stressed. LDL cholesterol, when not kept under the tab, can lead to heart diseases. Coupled with diabetics, your chances of being affected by heart diseases are doubled in such cases. Obesity is related to a range of diseases that includes cardiovascular diseases. When you are obese, you also develop diabetes faster.

How to stay healthy: When you want to stay healthy and maintain your heart functioning with ease, there are certain things you should never forget. Keep a track on your A1C number. This is not for the single test you take, but monitor the A1C levels for 3 months, and check if the resulting number is healthy.

  • Ensure your blood pressure level is lower than 140/90 mm/Hg.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Eat healthy foods.
  • Processed, fatty, oily and junk foods should never find a place on your plate.
  • Physical activities should be spread over the day. For instance, take a morning walk, and try cycling in the noon.
  • Climb the stairs.
  • Avoid sitting for long hours.
  • Get adequate sleep.

It is essential to get treatment for diabetes and heart diseases. Stick to the instructions of your healthcare team. Simply bringing in healthy habits can’t help. Take tests advised by your doctor and never skip the appointments.

7 Natural Ways That Can Give You Beautiful Skin!

7 Natural Ways That Can Give You Beautiful Skin!

Healthy and beautiful skin is only a few natural ways away. Find out 7 ways that can give you beautiful skin naturally.

Most of the people only understand that beauty is only skin-deep but in reality, it is also a lot deeper. Face cleansing, as well as body cleansing routine, are done on just the visible outer layer.

Skin is the largest organ; the skin is the first layer of the immune system that works as a protective layer between the health of the body and viruses & bacteria.

Healthy looking skin is as crucial as the healthy internal body.

Maintaining radiance skin isn't always easy, and the reality is there are numerous reasons your skin is losing that so-called glow. Our skin constantly sheds dead skin cells, but if the process isn’t working efficiently then it will directly cause your complexion to lose its spark, and provide unhealthy, tired appearance that emphasizes premature aging.

Common factors that cause dull skin include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, dehydration, the pile-up of dead skin cells due to lack of exfoliation, stressful lifestyle, hectic work schedules, lack of sleep, environmental contamination, overdoing chemical makeup, and poor diet.

Using readymade chemical creams to add radiance to your skin is not at all justified with your skin. But to get truly healthy, glowing and beautiful skin, you need to switch to 100% herbal products only for your skin and apartfrom this, there are many natural skincare tips for scintillating skin, which also help in cleansing and rejuvenating the skin.

Here, we list the top 7 natural ways for you that can give you beautiful skin.

A gentle facial& full body massage with essential oils could work wonders. Depending on your skin type, you could choose oils from mustard, coconut, almond or kumkumadi kind. All are excellent nourishing agents that help in getting the glowing, beautiful skin. Oil massaging also helps in better blood circulation that eases the body aches as well as awards a healthy skin.

The more you meditate, the more you radiate. Prana(energy) generates during meditation that helps repair the cells and tissues of the body and provides a fresh looking, rejuvenating and youthful skin. Stress is known to be an enemy for the overall well-being of the human body, which creates trouble internally so meditation especially brings that ease and calmness to the mind. It will automatically show in the shine of the skin. In Ayurveda, meditation finds an important place to achieve a stress-free life.

Everyday skin care regimen plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the skin. CTM (Cleansing, Toning & Moisturizing) are three basic steps one should follow twice daily no matter what! But the first question that clicks on the mind is, that what products we should use on the skin. Rather going to chemical-based products always have a gentle touch with herbal products because these have no side effects.
