Pantoprazole is category b drug (safe in animal studies; not studied in humans). It should be used only in acute gastritis diagnosed by endoscopy. But it is prescribed by majority of doctors for pregnancy induced gastritis, without any ill effects (to my knowledge).

Hello ,
probably your father is suffering from congenital hiatus hernia. If surgery is not required (as told by the endoscopist) medical therapy is sufficient to take of symptoms. But I want to know what is the exact problem that your father is suffering which brought him to the doctor? If it is cough, then he needs a detailed evaluation at his age. Regarding use of pantoprazole or omeprzole or any of these proton pump inhibitors, they are more or less quite similar in actions. So do not wor...more

Hello,
at the age of 22 years, a requirement of pantoprazole on a regular basis could be either worrisome or wrong practice. There are two suggestions:
1. Please see a gastroenterologist for your dyspepsia. You probably require diet modifications, lifestyle modifications, cessation of smoking if you do, reducing the alcohol intake if you do. If your complaints are still persistent then may require further workup and treatment which is more than and different from taking pantoprazole. 2. ...more

Hi lybrate-user,
please provide some more information so that I can give you some meaning advise. Upper abdominal pain has a lot of reasons. Most common is gastritis/acidity and that is why you have been given pantocid. Another common reason is h.pyolri infection. For that take hp kit twice a day. Its a combination of medicines which comes in a kit. Hello lybrate-user. Ultrasound is a very basic test.
If it is negative for any abnormal findings it does not mean everything is normal.
There are further investigations required.
Avoid taking medicines blindly.
Lower abdomen pain is not treated with pantoprazole.
Either you can consult and take proper guidance and treatment or you can wait.

You are suffering from IBS in my opinion. You need to regularize your lifestyle and food habits. You don't need medicine.
