1.restricted -onion ,garlic,pulses,milk and milk products,bakery,processed and packaged food,oil,white salt,wheat,non veg.eggs.
2.eat plenty of fruits,salad and vegetables,coconut water and lemon water
3.cook food in little bit in ghee
4.keep hydration

Your father have hypertension. Hypertension over long term can cause secondary complications. You should get some workup done atleast once a year. Cbc, rft, rbs, ecg, echo, fundus, these are some bare minimum. If you had it done you can send me the reports, I will review. Now for treatment, telmisartan is really good drug. Start bp medications only after consulting your treating physician, salt restriction and lifestyle modification. Proper evaluation is required whether hypertension is essential or secondary. Ecg/ echo/ usg whole abdomen/ urine routine/ vasculitis profile. Rule out diabetes and hypothyroidism. Anemia should be evaluated if persisting. Rule out sleep disordered breathing if complaints are there.
