Hi I am a diabetic since last 20 years, my blood sugar normally remains between 90 to120 as fasting and 140 to 180 as p p I try to maintain my normal diabetic diet as suggested by the physician. Some times the blood sugar level goes up to 190 or so as p p. At present I am taking metformin 500mg +glimipride. 5 mg in the morning along with ayurvedic 2 tablets of madhu nashini in the morning 1/2 hrs before breakfast and 500mg with 2 tabs of chandraprabha wati 1/2 hrs after dinner. Lastly I take about 250 gms of cowmilk at about 10. 30 pm. I consume sufficient quantity of water.--more than a liter early morning immediately after wakeup and not less than 1/2 liters at a time 3-4 times during the day. My body sweating is on the higher side. Frther, I go for the morning walk for 45 minutes about 4. 5 kms daily and also spend 30 to 40 minutes on yoga and prayanam before breakfast. Thereis no any considerable change in my body weight which remains between 74 to 75 kgs. Since lst 10 years. I do not feel any symptoms as stated normally for the diabetics, now I would like to have your good opinion as to what more I should do to exactly maintain my bloodsugar level at 90-100 (fasting ) and within 140 ( p p )

Hello, thanks for the query.
The forxiga (dapagliflozin) belongs to a comparatively newer class of drugs called sglt - 2 inhibitors. There are other similar molecules like campagliflozin, canagliflozin. I am not sure if any othese drugs are being considered by the insurance companies. You may check the same. If none of those molecules are covered then doctor may look at dpp - iv inhibitors like saxagliptin, vildagliptin, linagliptin and tenelegliptin as alternative. Thanks.

Lipaglyn is useful not only to control blood sugars but also to control fatty liver disease. It is advisable to continue lipaglyn even if sugars are normal. This medicine does not cause hypoglycaemia (low blod sugar).

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query.
Madam, I have seen the details mentioned. It is clear that your present treatment is not at all helping in controlling blood glucose. So there is a need to give a total relook at the overall treatment. Which means we will have to look at your dietary details, extent of daily exercise, current medications, lipid profile, bp readings and get a retinal examination done to rule out any untoward effect on retina, plus serum creatinine and urea. So my suggest...more

Hello, thanks for the query. Blood glucose 449 mg (fasting or pp not mentioned) shows totally uncontrolled diabetes. This is not at all good. There's an urgent need to upgrade the treatment, plus give a closer look at his diet pattern, extent of daily exercises and weight control. Therefore please give following details: fasting, pp glucose, hba1c%, bp readings, lipid profile, serum creatinine, urea, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercises, weight and height. On seeing those necessary details...more
