My 14 year old daughter was suffering from dizziness and nausea for some time and I was taking her to a gp who wasn't able to cure her so she referred her to a neurologist who did some scans and blood tests and diagnosed her with vestibular migraines. He prescribed topamac which after taking for three days she developed severe side effects such as lethargy, loss of appetite, vision problems, loss of concentration and soreness in her joints. She was taken off that medication, but the symptoms persisted so she was prescribed anti depressants. Mylan alprazolam 0.25 mg which she took for 5 days only and lexamil 5 mg. She has been on anti depressants for a week now but doesn't seem to be getting better. She doesn't want to do anything and just wants to lay in her bed in a dark room. Doesn't want to eat, go to school or walk. She keeps on insisting that she is sick. What do I do. I am scared to take her back to another doctor who will prescribe more harmful tablets.

See she is very young. Only 14. U need too be her strength and tackle this situation very tactfully. Support her, talk to her. Try to make her understand this is not end of life, it happens. Try to make her understand to come out of the room, even if for some time. Slowly increase the timings. Tell her that you understand her problem, but it will take some time to be ok. Try to make her believe this. Play with her indoor games like ludo or antakshari or cards etc. Engage her in some activity slo...more

I am 44 years old, a mother of two great teenagers. I have been on prestiq for years for depression. Premarin, a hormone pill for a hysterectomy I had about 15 years ago. Some type of hctz medicine for blood pressure. Vitamin d once a week for low levels. Vyvanse from my psychiatrist that i’ve been on for years for add or adhd (i honestly have no idea which one it is). Recently, about two months ago, I started getting horrific headaches. My regular doctor had an mri done. I was a bit concerned over these weird “dips” in in skull but she did’t seemed concerned. She prescribed me topiramate in november and, although the headaches are a little better, I am now 113 pounds. I am only 5’2” and I look like i’m knocking on death’s door. I don’t know if the medicine can cause this but I even have difficulty forming or “finding”my words at times. My doctor didn’t seemed too concerned. I have had friends and family ask if i’m terminally ill I look so bad. Am I overreacting? I usually would just shrug stuff like this off but I haven’t weight this low since I was in the 9th grade.

Though it doesn't seem serious you need to have further tests to be completely sure off the same. You need to have an eeg, neuropsychological tests done to find out if there are any issues of concern regarding your word finding difficulty. Otherwise the medications seems fine, but you be sure you are taking the needed ones, and avoid the unwanted ones. Good luck.

For relief of headache, you can take rizatriptan tablets. For prevention of headaches in future, you can take propranolol or topiramate.
