Fdg-positive lesions often mean cancer, but not always. A variety of lesions have increased fdg radiotracer including infection, inflammation, autoimmune processes, sarcoidosis, and benign tumors. Let's discuss your concern in detail so that we can provide the best medical plan.

Hi all, My mother is Non-Hodkins Lymphoma patient and she was treated for this in 2015. The treatment got completed in 2015 august. Pet-Ct is done regularly for every 6 months. A left level 1b and II cervical lymph nodes was observed with suv max of 4.8 and size of 2.4*1.3 since 1 year. Last year one left axillary node was also there with suv max of 5.8 so doctors asked us to get it biopsed and result is that its not cancerous. But now in the recent pet scan report left level 1b and II cervical lymph nodes was only present and the suv max of those nodes are less than the one that is taken in the past that is 4.4 and size of 1.7*9 mm. previously the doctors told that those nodes may no be cancerous and suggested that no biopsy is required for that node but now as there is no other nodes other than this there are threatening us to go for biopsy. As the same node is present since 1.5 years do we still go for biopsy. We are in dilemma whether to go for biopsy or not because its under neck and if something goes wrong situation will be worse. Please suggest some thing.

Prostate ca do metastasizes. Check bones and ct brain also. Hope your oncologist must have done these. Lung sol appears to be a metastasis than a separate primary focus. However oncologists are best person who can and should speak to you about yours father's prognosis. Pet scan is better investigation for malignancy. Please follow their advice. You need treatment again. Aiims, New Delhi, Tata memorial, at Mumbai, cmc vellore, Chennai - any one of them are some best centers in our country for tre...more

Hi, Recently 10 days back my mom noticed some thing hard in left breast and done with scan and fnac .the reports resulted duct cell carcinoma and no lymphadenopathy. She went to hyd to confirm about it they did pet scan and mammogram of both tests. In pet scan they gave in neck: multiple hypodense nodules noted in both lobes of thyroid with minimal fdg uptake-- likely benign. Chest: Irregular soft tissue density parenchymal lesion noted involving superomedial quadrant of left breast. No direct skin / chestwall infiltration seen. No satellite nodules noted. Lessons shows moderately increased fdg uptake (SUV MAX: 8.7)-- primary. Increased fdg uptake noted in few enlarged left axillary and subcentimeter subpectoral lymph nodes (SUV MAX: 5.6 in largest axillary node) Bones: foci of increased fdg uptake noted in anterior opposing end plates of D2-D3 and D3-D4 vertebrae (SUV MAX: 10.6) inflammatory? Metastatic. A radio lucent intensely fdg avid lesion noted right transverse process of D3 vertebra (SUV MAX :15.6)-- metastatic. Remaining report is normal. What is the stage of breast cancer? And one of our friend told that it has been spread to spine is there any life risk problem. Within 2 days she is having surgery for left breast but doctors did not mentioned about back bone. Does chemotherapy helps to cure this problem after surgery. Please help us.

To summarize she has a breast lesion and bone lesion. We need to review the PET CT images. In the absence of axillary lymphadenopathy it is unlikely that bone lesions is due to cancer. I would suggest you to review PET CT images if non metastatic, go ahead with surgery followed by chemotherapy followed by radiation if metastatic looking, do biopsy to prove it then plan further.
