About Sulpiride
Sulpiride is a strong drug used for the treatment of mental health conditions and psychosis such as schizophrenia, or major depression. It belongs to the group of antipsychotic drugs, belonging to the benzamide class. The drug may be administered in lower doses to the patients of extreme anxiety or mild depression. There is evidence of its efficacy in the treatment of panic disorder. It is also a remedial therapy in cases of dysthymia.
The drug must be used with caution in elderly patients, pregnant or lactating women and children. Proper medical advice must be taken for patients suffering from or having a history or liver diseases, jaundice, severe respiratory disorders, patients in comatose, having cardiac problems and hypertension.
The side effects of the drug include extreme exhaustion and drowsiness initially. Other symptoms are weight gain, changes in sex drive, insomnia, rashes, blurred vision, headaches, agitation, muscle stiffness, sensitivity to light and a state of confusion.
The drug may create health complications on interaction with other medicines such as other antipsychotics, painkillers, antihistamines, tranquilisers, anti-depressants or anti-convulsants.
