I am having cough which came after cold. It is not going away since 2 months. No phlegm. Only dry cough which comes now and then. I have consulted doctor and he gave me medicines for gerd. 1st time he gave me rabiwok dsr for day time and nexpro fast for night along with gaviscon syrup for 3 times after meals. The cough had gone after that. After 2 months again I met with cold. After cold again cough came and it doesn't going away. After that another time he gave me hp kit for 14 days along with sucrafil o syrup and tossex syrup. But cough is not going away. There is no other symptoms except dry cough. If it is gerd why does cough only comes whenever I met with cold? Also he said my lungs are perfect with having 98% oxygen saturation. What can I do now? Please help. There is always feels like irritation in my that. Please help.

Dear Lybrate user, night coughs (mimicking asthma attacks) are sometimes caused by reflux disease (gerd), since you got relief, hence your doctor was absolutely right.
Now you are not getting relief, so you need to get a cbc esr blood test and a chest x ray to confirm the diagnosis.
Oxygen saturation (spo2) tells about oxygen saturation in blood, it can be near normal in early stages of lung diseases.
You can upload your cbc & x ray report on Lybrate forum for further advice.

Hiccups since 7 days. Cough since 7 days. My dad went to shabarimala place where he climbed a hill of 7-8 kms, he is a cardiac patient and he is operated with stent 3 years back. He is diabetic since 8 yrs. After coming from shabarimala he had fever with chills and that day hiccups lasted for 1-2 hrs only. From next day he is having continuous hiccups. For which we consulted cardiologist and also gastroenterologist. They conducted all tests and all r normal. We have taken pantoprazole (other related drugs) and other drugs like sucralfate and baclofen for 3 days but no relief. So he had given perinorm oral evn then no relief. And for cough he was given clavam 625 and ascoril LS. Evn after 7 doses of clavam cough was subsiding. So pulmonologist changed the drug. He gave doxycycline (doxtyl) and deletus -D and also nebulization with levolin and budecort since 2 days. After starting doxycycline he had motions watery in consistency, for which he was given metrogyl 400 mg tid and redotil BD and sporlac tid. Not under standing wat to do.

Fresh blood is an indication for anal or rectum pathology and black coloured stools is an indication for an upper GI bleed and which needs to be evaluated and for your present symptoms I will suggest you to meet a gastroenterologist and get a upper GI scopy done and Apart from taking symptomatic treatment Avoid spicy food items and not to eat junk food and we also need to avoid peanuts and potatoes in our daily diet.

In march I suffered with food acids returning back into oesophagus so I took gastro doctor appointment and used pand and gaviscon for 1 month then acids returning to oesophagus stopped but still I feel throat pain while swallowing and uneasiness in throat. So I left it as is for 1 month thinking it would heal on own. Then one day I took raw lemon juice then the throat pain and oesophagus pain became worse, so again I continued taking pan for 3 months and panl with sucrafil for 1 month. Looked like throat pain cured and pain was minimal. And mild pain in food pipeline on eating spicy and soar food. So, I stopped taking pan as it is not safe to take long time. But again I started feeling throat pain and difficulty in swallowing after a week. Looks like acid in the form vapour hitting my throat. What medication should I take to cure.

This medicine (proton pump inhibitor (ppi).) will not cure problem. It only works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. The day you do not take medicine normal acid production will be there n you will have symptoms.
