I just got into maintenance phase in tb treatment because I finished my 2 months medication. Before im taking 3 tablets of quadmax, contents of quadmax is Rifampicin 150 mg, INH 75 mg, pyrazinamide 400 mg, ethambutol HCl 275 mg. Now my doctor said that she will transfer me to maintenance phase and she gave me 1 tablet of Rifampicin isoniazid 450 mg/400 mg a day. I forgot to ask my doctor if I need to continue drinking 3 tablets of quadmax. Do I need to take also 3 tablets of quadmax or the 1 tablet of rifampicin isoniazid only?

Medicine in quadmax is insufficient as per ypour weight. Need to take rifampicin/ isoniazid 450/300 and ethambutol 800 daily in continuation phase.

I am taking treatment for tuberculosis. I am taking medications from the past 3 months. In the beginning doctor gave the following medication (for 8 days) 1. Rifampicin - 450 mg 2. Ethambutol - 600 mg 3. Isoniazid - 200 mg 5. Benadon - 20 mg 6. Pyrazinamide - 1000 mg then liver got affected so he put me on this for a week (7 days) (i got drug induced hepatitis) 1. Ethambutol - 600 mg 2. Levoflox 750 mg 3. Injection amikacin 500m mg (iv) then again for one week (7 days) he gave, 1. Ethambutol - 600 mg 2. Levoflox 750 mg 3. Injection amikacin 500m mg (iv) 4. Isoniazid - 100 mg taking isoniazid again affected the liver, so he stopped isoniazid and he gave this for 5 weeks, 1. Ethambutol - 600 mg 2. Levoflox 750 mg 3. Injection amikacin 500m mg (iv) then when the liver condition became ok, doctor has given the following medication 1. Rifampicin - 450 mg 2. Ethambutol - 600 mg 3. Isoniazid - 200 mg 4. Benadon - 20 mg 5. Levoflox 750 mg this is what is going on now. I am not sure if the treatment being given is right or not. I had consulted another pulmonologist who says this is not the right treatment as drugs should not be changed so often. Also he says amikacin and levoflox are given for mdr tb and not for normal tb. Now that it is already given I cannot change that. The other pulmonologist says that if it is these drugs then one needs to give it for 9 months as pyrazinamide is not given. He also says if sputum is negative then we can stop levofloxin and give the drugs for 4 months. However I am not getting sputum for testing also. I have two questions now. 1. Other than sputum testing is there any other way of finding out if tb bacteria is still there in the body. If that is the only way is there any way of generating sputum. 2. Should att-4 with the four standard medications be started again. What is the best alternative. Kindly suggest.

Pulmonologist altered regimen and added levofloxacin because you had liver side effects with pyrazinamide which was stopped
the standard regimen of rifampicin isoniazid ethambutol pyrazinamide is a guideline with exception when necessary
it is not an inviolable dictate
still in doubt consult pulmonologist at nationaltb institute bangalore malleswaram.

I am 25 years old. I was detected with a lump on lymph node which turned out to be tuberculosis. I was on three medicines-rcin 600, solonex 300, combutol 600. After 3 months, the sonography showed that there was 50% decrease in the size of lump. Now I completed 6 months treatment last week. My weight has not increased or decreased during the course. I went for sonography and the results showed that the lump has increased in size than before. I am doing well, no fever, no weight loss nothing. What does that indicate? Please help. I just need an opinion.

Sometimes lymph nodes do not regress completely
is needed surgical removal
some patients need long term of 9 months
some require culture to see which one drug combination is best
no blood tests to clarify this point.

Hey I am 22 male and suffering from intestinal TB. I've been prescribed Akurit-4 (Rifampicin 150 mg, isoniazid 75 mg, pyrazinamide 400 mg, ethambutol hydrochloride 275 mg) 4 tablets at a time in addition to benadon and silybon. Its been 2 months since I am taking these medicines. I am experiencing joint pain, hairloss, and also feel pukish sometimes. I want to know if this is the correct treatment and the side effects that I am facing is normal or not. Please advise. I am a little worried.

Few patient can have drug side effect. Get LFT and serum uric acid test done and consult your doctor as TB medicine needs reduction of dose at 2 months.

Health Query

I am taking anti tb drugs since september, which consists of isoniazid, ethambutol and levofloxacin, and my doctor says it shall be continued till september 21 and antihypertensive and foracort inhaler also. I do not know if it is a side effect of the medicine or I am developing some other disease, I am feeling tired all the time with body aches and feverish but no temperature. I fear for covid but my doctor said you are not having any such symptoms. I am very much in tension as you know the severity of the disease. I fear of having a test. Kindly suggest.

It's very important that how long you are facing these symptoms. If these symptoms are of short duration. You should definitely try to rule out covid by doing your rt-pcr test for covid. As the incidence of covid is very high in present scenario.

Hello sir, my age 24 and my weight is approximately 50. I have lung infection tb initially, doctor gave me akt4 after taking it for 2 weeks I developed serious jaundice and after recovery from jaundice I have been given akt3 (there are 2 tablet or capsule, I don't know if it is rifampicin, ethabutelor, isoniazid) to cure it. I want to know how should I take akt3? In prescription there is mentioned one tablet or capsule per day but chemist sellers says that I should take both tablets per day. Please advise how should I take. Read less.

I am 33 years old. Two years ago, I was treated for tuberculosis in the testicle and I took treatment for 9 months consist of ifampicin 225 mg, isoniazid 150 mg, pyrazinamide 500 mg. Since then I suffered from skin allergies (ex. Itching, acne. Etc ), acidity, bloating and allot of gases of about two years. I became allergic to milk products and some foods such as legumes and nuts. I wonder if you have a successful treatment prescription for such a situation.

it is very unlikely that allergy of drug persists for so long and even after the treatment.
proper history with detailed clinical examination will help in arriving diagnosis and correct treatment.

Hi, I am using atroiza. Being tested positive for hiv 3 weeks ago. With the address I am also given winthrop isoniazid 300. What I want to know is, what other medication can I use to prevent liver and kidney damage as I read that those medication can cause problem on the long run. I got myself centre multi vitamins and viral choice immune booster which I taken in the mornings. Is there anything else I can use to prevent the liver and kidney damage on the long run.

You have to do laboratory test every 3 to 6 months and that s enough to prevent liver and kidney damage to change medicine as early as possible.

I am a 27 year old female who had tb of lymph node in aug 2018. After completing 6 months of treatment the doctor discontinued the treatment. I felt better also. Then in dec 2019 I was diagnosed with mdr tb with resistance to rifamycin and isoniazid. I am waiting for my culture sensitivity report. The medicines prescribed are causing nausea and vomiting. if its mdr tb, treatment will be for 18-24 months based on culture reports, please undergo a first line and second line lpa also
ask the doctor for antacids and antiemetics for acidity and nausea
start high protein diet with vitamin supplementation
ensure dose is as per your weight
regards.
