Hi lybrate-user
I can imagine how distressing and difficult this may be for you and your family. It may be in your best interest to continue the medication prescribed by your doctor. Additionally, you could take him for therapy to a licensed therapist who has substantial experience with adolescents in your city. It may be helpful for him to address his thoughts and feelings in a safe space and learn to challenge dysfunctional thoughts that trigger his symptoms and work on healthier behaviour...more

Dear Lybrate user,
its good that your husband is responding to treatment. Side effects are inevitable part of any treatment. However we can find ways to reduce them by modifying the medicines and adding on counselling. Don't worry. Feel assured. Fix an appointment with a psychiatrist either in person or through tele consultation. You will get appropriate guidance.

I am 15 year old boy. I am suffering from severe anxiety and panic attacks. Actually 2 years before my exam was going to held and I was in my study room planning to learn the sylabbus but suddenly a thought came that what will happen if I fail in the exam. I hadn't learned the sylabbus, there was only 5 days left for exam. So I was so much anxious and frightened. Actually I was feeling severe anxiety that day. Such type of severe anxiety I hadn't experienced before. Anxiety was so much much high. After severe anxiety my appetite lost, I got fever and I couldn't sleep at night. Days were passing and my condition was getting worse. From that day I feel severe anxiety and fear on a regular basis. I lost my happiness totally. I was struggling hard to be in normal state since I was feeling severe anxiety. After 1.4 year I consult a neuropsychiatric and he prescribed me flunil ip - 40 (fluoxetine) and risdone mt 0.5 (risperidone) and after that I feel a bit relief but not completely. However,i feel anxiety regularly and panic attacks. Please suggest me the treatment. Should I have take any therapy like cbt or psychotherapy to get rid of this problem completely. I don't feel happiness. Please doctor tell me the solution.

Yes, you should go for cbt in tandem with the medication. You must go for counseling soon. Counseling will help in training you will skills and techniques to cope with the daily challenges in life and will give you a fair chance to manage your life. You must also develop your constitution to make it fit enough to cope with fear, felt many times unnecessarily. You may be taking normal fear and converting it into abnormal fear like anxiety and so on. Take care of the following: mental stability ca...more

Yes, you are right. You need cbt therapy to manage your intrusive negative thoughts which are the cause of your anxiety. I have treated many clients with this approach.

Yes you can combine cbt with medications, the improvement will be much better. Try it, but go for proper cbt specialist, as many do not now what cbt is and claim they can do and start giving advices, which is not cbt.

Hello sir, problems- aggressiveness, short tempered, no calmness, very emotionalistic, taking to much stress in little things. I even have just a few symptoms of compulsive repetitive disorder (like I have kept my phone in the bag but im checking twice whether its there or not. And this doesn't happen all the time but yes I do have symptoms). Even if I talk maturely I still behave immaturely in certain topics (when in dispute with mom or when I am angry on something) and im taking meds prescribed by my doctor.in my first visit my doctor gave me - 1) nervon forte 2) pari cr 12.5 3) clonil 10 4) librax (because my stomach wasn't good. I took that for 1 month, then stopped) then I explained her my 2 month situation (in the 1st month I was feeling better but after that I was again like that ,meaning - low confidence ,stress, anger, mood swings, negativity mind, stomach issue etc .so she changed my meds - 1) nervon forte 2) pari cr plus 12.5 3) sizodon mt 0.5 4) librax (sos). All at night once a day. Then I continued it for 1 month and now I told her that the meds weren't suiting me well because im seeing no difference, she changed ny meds - 1) nervon forte - once at night 2) take sizodon / risdone 1 mg.- once at night 3) lonazep 0.5 mg - once at night this I have just started to take it from 5 days and my head is spinning im not well at all. Now I do not know my head is spinning and paining because of sinus or the medicines. My doctor has now told me to stop nervon forte and continue the other two. Please help me out. Is the medicines correct?

Your doctor has been reviewing your medications on the basis of the symptoms you are experiencing every time. But my concern is that you have not been seeking the help of a counselor to explore the psychological and emotional angle to recover from your condition. You are being treated for a fairly serious disorder and need combination therapy to substantiate the medical approach. I can see that although you mention a lot about your anger, there is what seems to be a huge problem with fear. I bel...more

You are being treated for your ocd but I don't think it is as simple as that. You do have a serious problem otherwise too and must continue it until the doctor says to stop or reduce it. If you are in doubt, please do talk to your doctor because you have every right to know what your treatment is all about. Meet with a counselor also. Please take your parents with you to determine the possible developmental issues that may have contributed to this condition. This is a fear-based condition and fo...more
