that medicine is best which controls BP without much side effects. Atenolol has been used for nearly 50 years with excellent safety in younger ages like your mother. If BP is uncontrolled there are other good options which can be discussed if needed. Best wishes

you are very right about normal range of tsh levels. At 8.5 milli units/ml, with normal t4, the condition is classified as sub- clinical hypothyroidism. This normally is not treated with any drugs. Which antihypertensive where you taking before you got pragnant? To answer your query, nifedipine and alpha methyldopa are both safe in pragnancy. No effect on baby, not taking those medicine will hv effect on baby, high bp = less blood going to baby, not to over correct and be hypotensive as well, do not adjust dose of your antihypertensive by your self.

If you are asymptomatic than stop medication and measure the bp value for three days in morning and evening and revert with finding.

Atenolol is not a drug for Anxiety. Its Propranolol that is useful for the physical components of anxiety reponses (trembling, quivering of voice etc). Ability to act on Beta 2 receptors gives it the above utility, while atenolol is only active on B1 receptiors. Moreover, Atenolol does not cross blood brain barrier so I do not see the merit of it here.
