You can give tussin dmr for a dry cough. It seems the baby has an infection and the cough will be wet with sputum in a day or two when he will need expectorants.

Expectorants are of two types:
mucolytics: which thin out tenacious mucoid secretions in the airways
mucokinetics or “expectorants”: they help the clearance of mucus by making coughing easier
both should not be prescribed in dry cough as they are known to aggravate cough.
However, wet cough is due to the secretions in the airways and should never be suppressed. Mucokinetics are used in this case which makes coughing easier.

Ascoril ls is an expectorant. It helps in coughing out mucus etc responsible for cough .you can give it for 10 -12 days & then if still not resolved, you can consult a pediatrician.
