It is not advisable to take clozapine only for Sleep. There are several other alternatives to use to improve sleep especially if you find risperidone is helping to improve your condition and there are no major side effects. If so Please stay on risperidone and ask your Psychiatrist to add sleeping tablet.

Dear lybrate-user,
Nice to hear that you are happy with your doctor. Please keep it up. Liking a doctor, makes you to comply with her/his treatment. With regular treatment, you will not have frequent relapses. Schizophrenia is a relapsing disorder. Early recognition and meeting a psychiatrist is a very good sign of preventing relapse.

Obviously if you have ocd, your mind will question the authenticity of almost everything. Having the thought is in itself not a bad thing, it is the indulgence in them that could influence you negatively. So learn to dismiss them as part of the ocd. Dear thanks for asking your querry here. You concern is genuine. For psychosis the dose of risperidone is less. But the dose of fludac for ocd is ok. I am not aware about current psychotic symptoms of your brother. If still he has delusion or hallucoinations, you may ask for a review by his psychiatrist who may consider increasing the dose of risperidone.

Hello,
Every antipsychotic medication is equally efficacious. If there is partial response then medication dose need to be increased and if there is no response than drug is supposed to be changed. Important part being dose given at a range which is effective. Do not switch to other drug until given at required effective dosage and for required period of time.
At 57 years usually the dosage is kept low and gradually increased to monitor side effects.

Lybrate-user: People suffering from schizophrenia should take their medications daily. Occasional use can lead to emergence of symptoms. Clozapine especially is a medication that should only be taken under supervision of a physician with very regular blood work to make sure WBC count (cells that fight infection) are not getting too low.
