Dear Lybrate user, glimepiride stimulates betacells to secrete insulin. Metformin is supposed to reduce insulin resistance and slow down glucose absorption from the intestine. Usually both these are used together to control increased blood glucose. In newly diagnosed patients metformin alone is used. In some both drugs are used together. Which drug to take for a particular level can be decided by the treating doctor.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
When diabetes is well controlled with adequate medication fasting glucose is < 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 6.8. Your fasting glucose is high. There is no mention of other two parameters. So it is difficult to comment. Along with drugs diet and exercise are also very important is controlling diabetes. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, For effective treatment of diabetes one has to either take oral antidiabetic drugs or Insulin injections or both. Otherwise, no other drugs (ayurvedic. If you are serious in controlling the condition then will have to restart with modern medicine drugs, plus diet control and regular exercise, then only it is possible to control it.
