Hi, I have dandruff and acne, scars on my face. Acne is puss filled and of a substantial size also. I visited a derma a month ago, and she prescribed a shampoo for dandruff that did not work. Post 3 weeks, on follow up, she prescribed a ionax t (shampoo with coal tar). Now coal tar has carcinogenic components in it. Am I at a risk? She also gave me a photostatic (emulsion) sunscreen for my skin but it contains parabens. I feel that she has given me products that contain ingredients that might cause other life threatening diseases to me? Kindly tell me what to do! Apart from the above medications, im also, alternating between a spot corrector nd a scar removing cream at night, with some tablets for acne scars, a lotion to be applied at scalp on dandruff areas. Also, keracnyl pp cream during the day after using the ridacne facewash. Kindly guide me through. I have curly hair, and have developed 3-6 grey strands when she first gave me the shampoo (1st meeting). Thank you.

dear Vidhu,
seems you have read quite a lot about the medications you are applying. although tar is carcinogenic but application of small amounts in the scalp is not particularly as hazardous. so you might safely use it without any worries. ofcourse with sunscreens since you have acne you need to apply a non comedogenic one.(which is less greasy). the parabens are the preservatives used in the sunscreen which help avaoid the degradation of the product for long term use. As long as you are...more

I am a class 12 CBSE student. I once had thick hair, but due to academic pressure I lost a major fraction of my hair. I feel my scalp at its best on the day of hair bath but on some days my scalp gets really itchy due to dandruff. I wonder how does it get into my head overnight! Even though I oil my scalp regularly I get this problem. As my hair appears thin when I apply oil I feel embarrassed to face the people and the sun! Please give me alternatives to applying oil to keep my scalp moisturized and to prevent dandruff? Also please help me to control hair fall and to regrow my hair? Suggest some easy home remedies or branded products available in the market for the problem. What branded shampoo can I use? I am currently using AYUSH FENUGREEK SHAMPOO and PATANJALI CONDITIONER. ALSO please suggest alternatives to applying hair oil. I currently use normal coconut oil.

Dandruff may be the result of a dry scalp, or a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. It could also be caused by eczema, psoriasis, or, very commonly, an overgrowth of a yeast like fungus called malassezia. Drugstore remedies might include shampoos with zinc pyrithione, which targets fungus and bacteria; ketoconazole, which also fights fungus; coal tar and selenium sulphide, which slow the growth and die-off of skin cells on your scalp; and salicylic acid. 1) Aspirin contains the same act...more

Exact cause of seborrheic dermatities is not known but it may be due to stress, genetic, a yeast that normally lives on skin, certain medical conditions and medicines, cold, dry weather. Use oil massage on scalp whenever you wash hairs. Apply ketoconazole 3 time in a weak, not use any other shampoo and only one oil whatever you want like almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil or sesame oil.

It could be due to dandruff. Apply Nizral (Ketoconazole) shampoo twice weekly for few weeks. Consult skin specialist/Trichologist (Hair specialist) for further advice and treatment.

Hi effective method to treat dandruff would be to combine 2 tablespoons of fresh apple juice with 2 tablespoons of warm water. Dab this on the hair and keep it for 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Do this for once or twice a week to cure dandruff. Apply ketoconazole lotion on your scalp once in a week.

Regular hair wash. Do not leave oil in hair for too long. Try a [ ketoconazole + salicylic acid ] based shampoo. Do not apply conditioner on scalp. For better evaluation do direct consultation.
