Dear lybrate-user,
considering your wife's age and symptom of burning sensation, I would advise her to do few blood check ups like fasting sugar, vit b12 and folate level, serum calcium level, d3 and thyroid profile.
After seeing the reports appropriate supplements have to be added. Till then let her continue all the tablets as prescribed so that she continues to cook and keep the house.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, as per your symptoms indicate, it can be a muscular spasm pain. However without a thorough examination, nothing can be conclusively said. You can continue taking the medications you have mentioned. If giving inadequate relief, short courses of muscle relaxant and exercises can be given. Still if pain persist, interventional pain management options can be tried where in nerves carrying pain from the painful areas are blocked.

Treat carpal tunnel syndrome as early as possible after symptoms start.
Take more frequent breaks to rest your hands. Avoiding activities that worsen symptoms and applying cold packs to reduce swelling also may help.
Other treatment options include wrist splinting, medications and surgery. Splinting and other conservative treatments are more likely to help if you've had only mild to moderate symptoms for less than 10 months.

Orthopedic spine surgeon like is the best judge for your spine condition. But the surgical decision has to be always patients. If there is 60% improvement in symptoms, you should try a selective nerve root block and start physiotherapy in the form of back exercise and core strengthening. you can always choose surgery at a later date if you cannot tolerate the symptoms.
